Garrido's situation was quite a bit different than Beard's. Not justifying a DUI, but it's night and day,

And he would have been fired if he injured someone. I know. I’m just saying, the university definitely frowns upon it’s employees having mugshots

Pure speculation, but I’m guessing Beard’s lawyer sent correspondence saying Beard would not resign and outlined some (basic) reasons as to why he would not be doing that.

It was probably entirely cloaked in the argument that the charges were going to be dismissed, and because of that it wasn't that big of a deal, while wholly failing to acknowledge the basic act of being arrested and charged was severely detrimental to the university. Probably contained little to no contrition for simply putting the school in a bad light.

A DUI versus beating a significant other is a lot different.

I’d argue Augie’s was worse because I really doubt Beard did much here. His problem was judgement. The fact that he was with this gal for more than a handful of dates and let her love with him is the problem. Whatever happened, it doesn’t matter and isn’t our problem. Beard got himself fired, and we are moving on.

You expected a mutual understanding when this much money is involved? Beard and his lawyers are trying to get money.

Honestly, yes. I figured he’d take responsibility for putting himself and the school in this position and try to work with the athletic department on making something work for both parties. It seems like he pissed decision makers off instead.

Yep. I know a girl who got fired because her non-husband was leaking her nudes all over town. Her employer was like “fuck that, you’re out.”  Minton can argue and write retarded letters like that all he wants, but he’s pissing in the wind.

Anyone know how to make this play in reverse?

Is it just me, or did Bevo have some insight here.  He recoils when Beard walks up...like maybe he's skeered Beard's gonna strangle him?

Never underestimate the natural instincts of animals.  :)

Not equating it at all but in fairness the Univ. did overlook his drinking on the job which could have blown up in their face big time.

Can we frickin’ hire someone without some sorted twisted past? We’re talking millions a year and we are pulling coaches with major baggage.

Someone send CDC and the BOR the hot-crazy matrix adapted for coaches with talent and baggage/major personal issues on the x and y axes.

Problem is, it wasn't sorted.  Definitely sordid though.

Did new shit come to light a week or so ago? Seems like there was a shift in this direction then, just reading the tea leaves.

Not really? The longer it went without CDC blabbing and running his mouth, the more time it gave people to justify why Beard would be brought back.

I will be surprised if Texas invokes sovereign immunity against one of their coaches, as it will hurt them when trying to hire future elite coaches.

I don't think they have to, honestly.  As someone a couple of weeks pointed out, the UT system has some damn good attorneys.

Minton looks way outmatched.

This contract will be in court for a long time and Texas will end up paying out a decent chunk of it.

The first part of your statement? Maybe. Depends on how long it takes him to get another job. If he can find a comparable salary, it's probably in his best interest to let it go. The second part? Only thing the school will ever pay is it's own legal fees. He ain't getting anything else from the University.

A US Congresswoman had to resign because SHE got revenge porn'd by an ex.

At the end of the day, nudes/bad PR/mugshots are going to piss off your employer, whether it's a University, your voters or the corporation who signs your paychecks.

In before someone claims that the shift was caused by Jay Wright expressing interest.

They wouldn't even have to do that. He demonstrably violated his contract.

I've already expressed my opinion that he arguably did not if he did not do the "conduct" that led to the charge, but obviously most people disagree.  My guess is it is enough to get into court, but it will depend on the judge.
