So you think the same university that hired a serial drunk that was fired by USC for being wasted on the job won’t give Beard a second chance?   We are becoming second chance U.  Get with the program jack ass.

Do you think alcoholism, without DUI or other threatening behavior to others, is similar to domestic violence?

So a red mark and a scrape from which she sounds like the instigator?  Jeez dude.  Let it play out.   Her story is like something I would have heard from one of my kids back in the day.   Full of holes and not well thought out when it was obvious they were totally busted.

As a starter, alcoholism can be a protected disability under the ADA and similar state statutes.  There is no protection for conduct which is domestic violence.

Society views the two very differently, as would any employer from a PR standpoint.

It's not at all unfathomable how he hasn't been fired.  We live in a world where people routinely stage shit to appear as victims for all sorts of reasons.  Not just scorned lovers, but internet famous twats, actors and athletes.  Being arrested and words on a piece of paper are hardly irrefutable evidence of anything.  People get arrested for bullshit all the time and the arrest report I read has a bunch of vague terms that don't preclude this from being staged/set up/self inflicted.

I posted up thread but what are the chances someone commits, and gets caught in the act, their first DV at age 49?  Seems pretty fucking low to me.  Woman beating seems like a trait that comes out early.  Possible?  Sure.  But how much more likely is it than this chick flipped out on him, called the cops, got him arrested for BS?  All of the injuries listed on the arrest affidavit could trivially be self inflicted.  Hard to fake a bite on the neck or ass.  Arm though?  Come on. Scratches, bruises, cuts?  I routinely have scratches, bruises and cuts from just living my life.

If he did this?  Fire his ass, absolutely.  But it's not at all clear to me he is guilty based on what has been made public.  FWIW, I have a BSC ex-wife who called the cops on me twice during our divorce for completely made up bullshit.

Would love to see some non-anecdotal support of these statements.  Reads like confirmation bias to me.

Combine the two though and you're pretty well fucked

Regardless of how all this plays out, it's soooo good that Beard wasn't drinking.
Or at least that he wasn't inebriated.

It’s when boys play against lifelong girl athletes and talk home the trophy.   It’s a shit deal for the girl who has a significant physical disadvantage.  Maybe include that in the calculus next time.
Sure, show your work on the frequency of this heinous crime. Bonus points if it's not antidotes or simply your "gut feeling".

It sounds from reports that he slapped her in the face, choked her, and dragged her off the bed. Bruises, bite marks, etc. What is your definition of “beat her up”?

Her statement to the police /= “the reports”.

Well, I guess they kinda are, since the reports merely reflect what she said happened.

Yup, I like the good old days where physical disadvantages didn't impact the outcome.  So unfair to think results are predetermined by genetics now.

She had bruises on her eyebrow and the affidavit claims he knocked her glasses off her face in some fashion.
My understanding is he went to her room after the she broke his glasses. And then apparently dragged her off the bed.
Its seems clear to me that he physically abused her which I think is pretty equal to beat her up unless you are being needlessly pedantic.
Again this is her side from the arrest report but I don’t see a lot of reason to doubt that there was physical abuse there based on Beard’s comments.

Not trolling, but I’m behind on this thread. Which Beard comments are you referring to that corroborate her claims?

This. FYI, I just talked to a Tech grad prosecutor yesterday. She is a family violence specialist at the misdemeanor and felony level.
She’s one of those “crusader” prosecutors that is extremely difficult to deal with on these type of cases. Very biased towards believing and empathizing with accusers.

Anyway, she was telling me how she has serious doubts about thy affidavit and is not a case that she would at all want to do be dealing with. Lots of holes, weaknesses, etc.

I would like to preface this by saying I am more interested in seeing actual statistics than forming an opinion to support a side for this thread. Hopefully this helps.

I got this quote from regular website but I’ll attach the research papers abstract at the bottom. I don’t have jstor or any other academic journal sites that may have access to full study.

“Our research shows that threats to make false accusations are common in situations where women perpetrate violence against men. 73% of men who experienced female-perpetrated violence reported that their partner threatened to make false accusations versus less than 3% of males in the general population. Among men who experience female-perpetrated violence, 56% said their female partners actually did make false accusations that he physically or sexually abused her, compared to less than one percent in the general population.”

If her side of the report is true, on top of Beard saying he has evidence of her starting it, then it’s certainly possible she made parts of the story up. Again, I’m not highlighting this study to try and prove a one side over the other. I want the truth just like the rest of us do, whatever that may be.

Spoiler

Although experts agree that intimate partner violence (IPV) is a multidimensional phenomenon comprised of both physical and non-physical acts, there is no measure of legal and administrative (LA) forms of IPV. LA aggression is when one partner manipulates the legal and other administrative systems to the detriment of his/her partner. Our measure was developed using the qualitative literature on male IPV victims' experiences. We tested the reliability and validity of our LA aggression measure on two samples of men: 611 men who sustained IPV and sought help, and 1,601 men in a population-based sample. Construct validity of the victimization scale was supported through factor analyses, correlations with other forms of IPV victimization, and comparisons of the rates of LA aggression between the two samples; reliability was established through Cronbach's alpha. Evidence for the validity and reliability of the perpetration scale was mixed and therefore needs further analyses and revisions before we can recommend its use in empirical work. There is initial support for the victimization scale as a valid and reliable measure of LA aggression victimization among men, but work is needed using women's victimization's experiences to establish reliability and validity of this measure for women. An LA aggression measure should be developed using LGBTQ victims' experiences, and for couples who are well into the divorce and child custody legal process. Legal personnel and practitioners should be educated on this form of IPV so that they can appropriately work with clients who have been victimized or perpetrate LA aggression. Aggr. Behav. 9999:XX-XX, 2014. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

I highlighted a sentence in the abstract that show this study, just like most study’s, are not perfect.

I hadn't opened this up since Tuesday until right now and it's the same back and forth bullshit it was then. How do people keep hashing the same shit over and over?

An investigation here is going to take a lot of time. University has to be sure it's on proper legal grounds for a firing with cause that won't be seriously contest in court.

This is also a successful coach who has the team in the number 2 money sport in college athletics primed for big things to come. It's a mother fucking cold hard reality of life that the more you can offer the more slack you will get. That's just how it is and how it will always be. The University doesn't want to part from Chris Beard. They will give every chance to not have to do so.

Might as well shut this thread down and wait for something to happen, which if the "he said/she said" nature of this type of situation shows no clear evidence of who's telling the truth it could take months.

10 Final Fours total and we are 0-3 in champ games since we won our title in 2012. 1-5 in champ matches but we ran into some buzzsaw teams like PSU 2009 and Stanford 2016. Gonna try to make it 2-5 tomorrow

Again who know WTF the truth is.  Relationship seemed to be ending and the catalyst was the breaking of Beard's glasses according to Randi Trew's statements to police.

Beard said he had audio recordings initially to the police that he did not turn over.  But what is he does have said tapes that backup his story and makes her statements seem like misrepresentation of fact?  Does that put enough doubt into the episode for a full dismissal of charges?

For example if she broke his glasses (there was no explanation of how the glasses were broken) and hers were knocked off her face, and the tapes clearly show she was the initial aggressor, how does the University view that?  If for example the only thing Beard will plead to is knocking glasses off her face in retaliation.  Does that leave a window open for retention? Of would that act alone as a response to her aggression justify a firing, versus counseling for example?

Again far, far too early to assume anything as the facts have not fully come out.  But just wondering if you all think certain transgressions along a spectrum might allow retention, or whether you think most any transgression in this arena is a fireable offense.  The University is clearly within it's rights to dismiss Beard, but is also waiting for the facts to come out.  The last thing they need is to fire Beard, find out that a lot of the initial reports were inaccurate and become party to a $35 million wrongful dismissal suit.

In all honestly, in my mind Beard's only real hope of survival here is he does indeed have audio tapes on the interaction, that put a lot of her assertions in doubt.  Without that he's gone.  I have thought he's gone for a while, but my curious mind wondered what if he does have tapes...?

This is my only gripe with Coach Elliott. He has been to the final 4 way too many times to not win more titles. Many of those times they had early exits, his teams were favored. They just play tighter when the pressure is on. They didn't have a great game yesterday, but thankfully still managed to win. Let's see if they can take home the trophy this time.

They had a pretty bad set 1 (11 errors hitting .056) but then they absolutely dominated sets 2-4.  SD didn't even dominate set 1, they hit .129 with 8 errors.

Set 2 - 2 errors, .333 (SD hit .077)
Set 3 - 4 errors, .300 (SD hit .000)
Set 4 - 6 errors, .300 (SD hit .209)

We had one more error in sets 2-4 combined than we did set 1.  Winning sets 2-4 by 9, 7 and 5 means it wasn't close.

So do we know if "separated" means they were basically breaking off the engagement - meaning that is her fiancé but they were breaking up? Based on the earlier post of the Tech grad, drinks, and the bar, didn't really sound like it was on solid footing, and if not, why the hell were they still shacking up???

I don't mean to derail the thread so this is the last comment I will make on this topic. I felt like they played tentative, often choosing for a soft touch rather than a kill shot. This is what I noticed in past yeaes when they had early exits despite being the favorite. We are so talented that we can win most of our games playing like that but we would have to play lot better against Louisville. You absolutely have to play with a killer instinct to win the last game of the tournament. Trying to win points with soft ball placements backfires more often than not when you're playing another team that is equally talented.

Ok, it’s confirmed I guess. That mugshot was probably taken hours after he was arrested btw so not exactly a great barometer of prior alcohol/substance consumption.

Hard to believe that mind-altering substances weren’t involved given the day/time of incident.

I think separated means that when the police arrived the two individuals involved were separated at the time. As in not physically in the same space.
