Yes, life was hard in 1923, people treated others like shit, hubris will get you killed, and people do stupid shit. I am pretty sure that has been going on since there have been people on this earth and will continue forward so I have no clue why the hell Sheridan feels the need to hammer those nails about 10 times and episode.

Sad thing is this series, much like "first" part of the story could have been so much better and instead he falls back on this tired shit.  Consider that he has now left Rainwater out in the middle of the fucking prairie with no clue where she is, no clue where to find food or water, no money, her dad and her first love dead and we know she somehow survives because decades later we have Thomas Rainwater. So, do you waste more time in your finale explaining how the fuck she survives, does she miraculously cross paths with the female marshal, navigates home, or do we just never really tie off that thread?

Why do we need to get reminded no good deal mixed with hubris and fueled with alcohol go unpunished and do we really need to be reminded how unreliable cars and roads were in 1923 during the best of times let alone in a blizzard?

Seriously Rip and Beth get their fucking ranch with foster kid and you can't have Rainwater and her love survive on the plain or Alex and the two Britts wait out the storm in Buffalo or take the train?  Sheridan has gone full Shondra Rhymes with this shit.

Banner is going to turn on Whitfield, you can see it in how he responded when Whitfield make the comment about the girl's mother and Banner realizes that the same pieces of shit who made his life miserable back home are present in the States even if he has a nicer home and better clothes/food for his family. Besides, somehow the Dutton's have to find out about the location of the train station unless everyone has been dumping bodies there for over a century which if the case would draw every damn scavenger in the Rockies.

See, I like Banner, for those reasons. He is actually my favorite character.

Solid character, one other reaction from Banner I found of interest is how his attitude about Spencer changed when he found out exactly where Spencer fought and not just simply that he got a medal.  He tried to explain to Whitfield that Spencer is the one truly hard man of all those who are going to be involved in this showdown.

By killing off the one Dutton, Sheridan has basically made Spencer immortal because once again we know the end of the story and we know the significance of the 6 generations of Duttons owning the land.

Sam with the Rainwater girl. I guess that's how prequels work though

True enough and the moral of Sheridan's story is if you have to travel anywhere don't go with Alex, Rainwater, or Spencer unless you want to wind up dead or fighting for your life.

Agreed. He's not a morally good character at all, but a real one.  Wants to provide for his family/people and stick it to the ones he believes is making his life hard.

But there's a limit I think.

That was really a Darwinian way to die. Because if there was a couple that would pleasantly be oblivious to dangers of winter in 1923, it would be the ones living basically in Chicago.

Spencer has really gone from being the cool dude that all the guys want to hang out with to being an insufferable grouch.  I guess Costner got the grouchy genes from him.

You go that many months wearing the same damn clothes regardless of if you are swimming in the ocean, shoveling coal in a boiler room, dealing with corrupt police, or fighting hobo's and you would be grouchy as well.

Sheridan.  Fuck aggys.  Taylor Sheridan, then Taylor Gibler, went to Southwest Texas State.

Some of the saddest shit I've ever seen, but I guess that's just a testament to how well the characters of Alex and Spencer were acted. TV normally doesn't get to me much, this one stings.

One of the all time best series finales. 1883 and 1923 finales were both incredible and had me fighting back the tears. No comparison as to the quality of finales tonight: 1923 season 2 finale > White Lotus season 3 finale.

One of the best?

No, I was waiting to see a lighting bolt on the baby's forehead after Alex "sacrificed" herself, but if we are truly being realistic about the difficulty of life in that time what were the odds of her surviving multiple amputations after extreme exposure compounded by potential kidney and/or liver failure and cardiac issues.

Before anyone talks about Alex surviving the freezing weather for that long would be unrealistic how realistic is it having Spencer survive jumping off a moving train not once, but twice and from what I can tell didn't pick up any injuries. Hell, the second time he jumps off the back of the train which most likely means he is landing on tracks and ties and not a snow bank and he doesn't even  come up with a limp.  No need to go into his walking around in freezing weather without a coat and showing no issues of the cold.

Maybe I am just disappointed that Sheridan could create a world in which both Monica and Beth survive and get to live with Rip and Kacey and both Faith and Alex end up dead due to the cold.

The fight being Whitfield's men, Cara, and the hands was good, though I am not sure why they didn't break out the tommy gun earlier in the fight.  Suspected that when Spencer joined the fight it would be over quickly, but damn,  that was almost anti-climatic,  wouldn't go as far as saying it was night king death anti-climatic and expected the battle hardened Spencer would dispatch of a group of guys who thought they were hard men, but the fight in the house was over in less than 10 seconds.

Whitfield was a complete piece of shit, deserved to die, but Spencer says he was going to kill him for killing Alex? What? he didn't kill Alex, hell, he didn't Spencer's brother John.  He has been trying to take away the ranch and he has tried to kill his Aunt, Sister in Law, Uncle, Him, etc.....but not Alex.  I would have preferred if the blonde had grabbed a knife off the table and stabbed he and the brunette.

Finally, Rainwater is released, but she has no idea where she is, has no money, is told to go to California, but does she even know which way she is supposed to travel since we are told two episodes earlier by her Dad that the stars are different and it makes it difficult to travel by them.

Both my wife and I felt this final episode was better than the rest of Season 2, but as I said what type of world is it that Tim dies, Faith dies, Alex dies, Jack dies, and Monica and Beth live.

A television show that will proudly tell you that they wanted to be so authentic that they did 3D printing of the chandeliers in the train stations in New York and Boston because they couldn't find accurate replicas.   Why go Wes Anderson on your site design and throw out the other crap?

Series could have been Shogun level quality and it went the way of the Walking Dead.

i told my wife the blonde was gonna grab a knife off the table and kill Whitfield, but alas.

i assume Spencer meant that if Whitfield hadn't tried to take over the ranch, forcing Spencer to come back and fight for it, then he and Alex wouldn't have had to brave the elements to get back there and, instead, would have been living somewhere overseas in a warmer climate.

overall, i thought the finale was very satisfying.  sucked that Banner got got, but like Jacob said, he was a man of his word.

that final scene at the ranch when Spencer showed up  had elements of the Battle of the Bastards when the Vale showed up to rescue Jon Snow and crew, and then a bit of Rogue One when Darth Vader just wrecked shop on the Rebel command ship.  Spencer just walked in the house and took care of bidness.

the finale definitely confirmed (as previously reported) that there ain't gonna be a season 3. so it's on to 1944.

Spoilering show info as should be done

Spoiler

Whitfield was coming after the ranch which set into motion all the shit that eventually led to Alex's (as well as scores of other people's , Including his own) death.

Has 1944 been confirmed? I’d rather the show be set after the war. Every man being away, and all female characters in Sheridan’s hands should worry everyone.

That and the fact that it was in the middle of the day and couldn't even see the stars.  She probably just rode the horse around in circles.

Either 1944 or 1964 would both feature Spencer prominently.  That last montage indicated that he died around 1969.  I'd be up for that.

They should have sent him to Nam. Shit would have been over in about 3 weeks

I was thinking that too.  Didn't Banner have one when they shot Jacob up in season 1?

So as fucking cheesy and ridiculous and dumb as that was about 50 minutes into this last episode….  It still got to me.  Dammit.

Right...some of the things, like the train pure coincidence of the train and him jumping off and back on was  far fetched...

As was Spencer taking on at least 12 of them on his OWN.

But fuck if I didn't have a great time.

I feel like they were literally the only characters I truly cared about, and they only saw each other for like 25 minutes this season.  We were robbed of Alex smart quips to Ford/Mirren IMO.

I'd be down for both...absolutely.

His son would definately be in WW2, like his dad...maybe Spencer goes too as a grizzle Vet.  But an older Spencer would probably be along the lines of Ford.
