Bronn's morning didn't turn out quite like he planned

Had some mornings very much like that in my drinking days so I was laughing quite a bit at that.  As soon as we heard the knock at the door I was yelling at him not to answer.  Total rookie move.

Fascinating we got some spanking porn for no extra charge.

Interesting speech from Jacob on disregarding right/wrong and prioritizing only what's best for one's family.  A little over the top, really.  But I've never been in a survival situation like that and when the other guys are trespassing and threatening your livelihood, then ambushing you with machine guns I suppose one can arrive at "look out for number one" pretty easily.

Funny to see them going the law and order route in 1923, while 100 years later on the same ranch you get murdered just for being fired as a ranch hand.

The Roman Catholic goon squad were a lot. I’m sure they existed, but it’s been jarring.

I had no problem feeling like the abuse in the school was realistic, but the goon squad you refer to is taking it quite bit further.  Catholic priests roaming the country side murdering Indians?  No idea if that really happened or if it's just dramatic license to represent real atrocities but, Jesus Christ.

Not sure why we needed the reappearance of Alex's former fiance and family.  They've got enough obstacles to overcome.  They've got to get to Montana and haven't even dealt with Mussolini and the mafia yet.  It thought they were headed to Marseille?  Did they just decide to drop 'em off in Sicily so they could catch a ship to America more quickly?

Yep. The final shot of Season 1 will be Spencer arriving at The Yellowstone. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get Helen Mirren - Spencer embrace. Then the war begins in earnest in Season 2!

While I think Spencer being confronted by his in laws has some comedic value, but it's probably unnecessary for his story.

I don’t watch Yellowstone.  If I did would the Indian School/runaway/priest plot line make sense?  I presume it ties into larger plot at some point.

Getting Danni stuck in Essos vibes with Spencer and Alex.

If Danni's storyline in the show frustrated you, check out the books haha.

Didn’t want to out myself, but yeah…

I presume there is a dude or two from the twenties (1920s) that Spencer is loosely based on given he is quasi-famous in the world of this show.   Anyone have thoughts on that?

The runaway school girl is an ancestor of a central character in Yellowstone, yes.

Great episode on the US front....Spencer still treading water overseas. Is there 8 or 10 episodes this season?? 8 is coming up.

The Jacob speech at the table seems over the top, but it's how it was back then.  You look out for the family/land first.  That scene highlighted where this Dutton motto came from even in present day with John.

Noticed the red-head beard guy, who was hired as a livestock agent last episode, is now just hanging out and spying to report that Bronn was arrested?  Is he not an agent that would be on the arrest. Am I mixing up bearded guys?   I had read that when he was hired as an agent, there was a reason Jack recognized him....he was Bronn's friend.  Bronn went to his house after he attached the Duttons.

I thought he was the same guy, too, and assumed that Timothy Dalton wanted somebody inside the Livestock Commission.

Right.  He’s the dude Jake warned his wife about - the guy that charms you.  But fat T-1000 jumped the gun and hired him before she could object.  And lo and behold he’s a spy.

He's forever Davey Scatino to me.

The bust out of his sporting goods store was terrific.

Good grief, can we let poor Spencer get to the fucking United States?  This is soap opera-ish with the non-stop obstructions.  Tugboat capsizes, then he's challenged to a duel and you just knew we wouldn't get to see him whip some ass and then that's that.  No, it's gotta end with the two of them getting separated, of course.

I didn't know you could pay somebody's land taxes and then receive their land if they didn't pay you back.  Gotta see if that particular law is still on the books.

Wasn't thinking about the anti-miscegenation laws, I was just thinking they'd kill his family.

Spencer with the Bill Bradley to aggy after the coinflip- it don't make a shit.

Interesting game theory about the rules of a duel.  Since the one challenged gets to pick weapons, I'd get really really good at one thing nobody else practices.  Then when someone challenges me I'd calmly say nunchucks or axe throwing.  People would learn you just let slide the insults from the obnoxious drunk guy with nunchucks hanging on his belt.

Great episode, but Mfer that shouldn't be the finale....  A few months ago my worst case scenario prediction for Spencer was that he arrives at Yellowstone on the finale episode.  Well fuck me.  They drug out his overseas escapades too much, it was fun in the beginning.  I am OK with his situation on the ship, but make that happen like 2 episodes ago.  They take 1 step forward and 2 steps back with their storyline.  It will probably take them half of season 2 just to get to Yellowstone. Fukin Sheridan.

Couldn't agree more.

An audience can only take so much manufactured bullshit for the protagonist to endure.

Ken Follet went crazy with that shit in Pillars of the Earth and its sequels.  The reason those novels were 18,000 pages long is because every time it looked like something positive might happen for the characters you're rooting for, God would send the 10 plagues of Egypt on them.

This is a show, along with the others, you ignore for years and see if they end up well received.  Then you watch them later. It is brutal to watch this molasses storyline.  We know what is going to happen, why drag it out with boring slow bullshit. (I know why)

I loved how, when spurned British aristocrat went flying off the ship into the Atlantic, somebody just tossed a life preserver in his general direction and was like, "See ya! We've got a schedule to keep, homie."

I laughed at that too.
None of them made an attempt to move. Just a light toss of the preserver and move on.

Yeah the week to week format is a bit maddening. I think about The Sopranos. I’d spend the whole week worrying about how one of my favorite characters might get whacked, and then Sunday would roll around it’s Livia comes over for dinner or Carmela bitching to her priest.

1923, 1883 are both pure streamers. If you’re paying $10 a month for Paramount + you should able to watch an entire season.

Fuck the Indian school Christianity bullshit. Man thats hard to watch.

We are a bit behind because each episode has something horrific thrown in by Taylor Sheridan to make sure we know how awful things were. My wife just goes into hysterics with the endless beatings of Indian girls by evil nuns, we get it Taylor can we advance that story line? The awful things he shows with animals like a dog with it’s guts hanging out has killed her viewing of Yellowstone.

They got married in international waters by a British naval captain to avoid immigration issues. A little bit later the validity of their marriage is questioned and Spencer replies with "I don't have any documentation just a ring and love." How was that going to help with immigration?

In previous episodes a point was made that all of these British ships could communicate with each other and when pushed for proof of a marriage Spencer replies with "Some British dude married us on a ship."

Your killing me Smalls.

Also, did he really need to fling that dude out to sea? I mean it was funny but he could have just flung him into the railing. It was also bad form to just keep smacking down that dude only for him to keep escalating the situation. It would have been better to knock his ass out instead of just humiliating him. The entire scene felt forced.

It feels like the original John Dutton and his wife should have gotten a little more shine or buildup. The one surviving character from 1883 and I think he had one line spelling out Sheridans weekly social commentary (THANGS ARE CHANGIN) before getting whacked.

And his poor wife offed herself and her own son didn't even notice and told his new wife that his aunt raised him

Certainly the ship captain would have provided an affidavit of some kind, right?

Also I googled and found out that passports weren’t a thing until the League of Nations standardized them following WWI. In 1920 the USA started issuing them, more or less as a standard document.

Need? Eh...

They should have paused when the Earl of Sussex was in midair and used A.I. Waylon Jennings voice to narrate. "It looks like Spencer has screwed the pooch this time. Will the Earl of Sussex perish at sea? Will Spencer make it back to Uncle Jessie in time? Stay tuned until next year to find out."

Mine refused to watch Yellowstone, 1883 and 1923 because of the horse shooting in the first 10 mins of episode one of Yellowstone.
