Let me get this straight:

  1. Emmer beat this guy fair and square in the conference vote
  2. Far right immediately says no way to Emmer
  3. Everyone who voted for Emmer over Johnson ("moderates" lol): "ok, that's fine"

Wow, what backbone. What principles. I'm in awe of their steely resolve.

Agree, seems like a pretty big flex by the MAGAt caucus

Someone has to figure out how to get the young vote up to offset the idiotic old people who believe all of this right wing propaganda.

I have no idea what this means but because it’s somehow tied to religion it’s got to be bad.

It's ok. They don't know what it means, either. Although I suspect what they think it means is:

1. switch from democracy to an emperor

2. make the emperor "christian"

3. convert everyone at sword-point

The schadenfreude was fun while it lasted, but tbh I was hoping we'd end up with someone better than the top insurrectionist in the entire congress.

That requires actual progressive policy action and less corporate governance. So basically it ain’t happening

Oh I hate to admit this, but Mike Johnson as a orator is nauseatingly likeable.

And this is very bad -- for the Republican Party. This will make it impossible for them to win national elections legitimately.

Or people will blame Dems for every fault they have and we find out what it's like to have convicted Trump as president.

The whitewashing of Jan 6 infuriates me more than anything else right now. I have friends (Trump supporters) that were pissed in that moment and even agreed he should be impeached. After all the gaslighting they’ve been subjected to they now think Jan 6 is way overblown by the Democrats.

Sorry your tourist trips to DC were so lame that you didn’t break into the Capitol, pick up some souvenirs and drive a bunch of elected officials into hiding. Bonus points if you took a couple freedom bullets to the chest

Reading about this dude, they literally could have just let Matt Gaetz pick someone 5 minutes after ousting McCarthy and ended up in the same spot.

Obviously Gaetz is high on the list of worst people in America, but it's hard to say he's not the most effective individual in the entire House. He got exactly what he wanted out of this deal.

Jim Jordan would have been worse for the country

This guy has all the same policy positions as Jordan, but the "moderates" will actually go along with him because he's fucking smiley or something. At least with Jordan there was pushback.

So he’s a gnostic who realizes that Jesus was a fictional allegorical character?

Maybe he’s a follower of Marcionism and believes that the Heavenly Father God who sends Jesus is not the Hebrew god or Demiurge that created the universe, and that maybe also the human form of Jesus was a divine illusion.

Not for nothing, the Christianity that emerges at the end of the 5th Century is radically evolved and consolidated from the wild diversity of belief that existed at the beginning of the 3rd. IOW- what tf are they talking about?

democrats should have struck a deal with that Emmer guy. Should have found enough D's to get him elected. He didn't vote to overturn the election. He voted for the recent spending stop gap. He probably would have supported aid for Ukraine, and at least tried to get a spending bill through before the deadline. He might have agreed to end the bullshit impeachment inquiry.

Instead we get this douchbag shit sandwich.

Hello shutdown. Hello nothing getting passed in the house that has any chance to make it through the senate.

edit to add the bonus: DOtaRd would have gone apeshit, and it would have been a huge fuck you to the MAGA block.

He got the most GOP votes since Boehner because he’s widely seen as possessing that aw shucks GWB quality about him who can be easily led by the crazies in his conference.

This. There was never a deal to be had. At least now the speaker is someone who is a good representation of the GOP’s desire to treat women like brood sows.
