Poker players can be so annoying. Karma is a bitch.

Ha I was out front waiting for my ride and that group with the pink hats came out front. Had no clue they were this guy with his posse. They seemed to be having a good time.

I just want to have that raw confidence to feel sure your AA will win there rather than just thinking "pleasejesuschristdon'tgivehimdiamondsnodeucenodeuce"

This.  His overconfidence there makes me think he doesn't play much.  LOL

On the PLO hand, I think you have to call due to pot odds with your flush draw and overpair.  I think there is a small chance you scoop but the odds he scoops is pretty similar if not slightly less.  Mostly you chop IMHO.  But I will definitely defer to the PLO specialists on here.

Interesting hand I played last night on a small two table tourney. Hands like these always get me thinking about the concept of blockers. We're down to 4-handed, top 2 spots get paid, though not relevant in this hand because neither player was in danger of going broke.

I'm like 450k deep with the blinds at 4k/8k. UTG folds, I raise to 24k on the button holding Ad7h. SB calls, BB folds.

Flop comes 4d7d2s.

SB donk leads for 30k, I consider raising, but just call.

Turn comes Qc.

SB checks, I check back.

Flop comes Kd.

SB thinks for a minute and leads out for 70k. I think about this for a couple of minutes because I'm not entirely sure what he could have here. SB player knows that I cbet pretty frequently whether I've made a hand or not on the flop. I suspect if he had a strong hand on the flop that he would checked instead of leading.

The check on the turn is what gives me pause. It's either a soft give up or a trap. The lead out on the river is very value sized. However, I am holding the Ad and the Kd is on the board, which eliminates basically any hand he's betting for value here other than maybe something like J-10d or 9-10d. Given the table dynamic, I doubt he would lead off with these hands, as he knows I'm likely to cbet and he can easily go into check/call mode to let me value own myself. He has done exactly this twice before in this tourney.

Ultimately I make the call and he tables Ah8d, my pair of 7s holds up.

If I wasn't holding the Ad and the Kd didn't show up on the river, I think it would have been much more difficult for me to make the call because my best guess as to what he had was pretty much exactly what he was holding, maybe up to something like an Ax-10d. An offsuit K might have gotten me to fold as it would have become much more likely he was holding either a K or a Q.

Anyway, the point of this story is to see what you guys think of how I played it and the line of logic I went through on the river. Would you have played the hand differently? I think I got the maximum possible value playing the hand the way I did considering the opponent's hand, but there are definitely a few combos of hands he could have had that were crushing me.

I think the standard open size would be 16-20k pre, but obviously 24k is fine too. SB should prob have raised or folded pre.

I’m going to raise his donk bet. It’s typically either a draw or him saying you shouldn’t have caught that flop, so raising makes him pay to chase and reestablishes your range as strong going into the turn.

Check check on turn prob happens regardless of our line on flop.

Played my line, I probably have to fold river thinking he only stayed in with flush draw or spiked the King for two pair

As played, I like your call.

Yeah 3x was a little greedy but I tend to size up a little pre when we're shorthanded at tables like this. I was 50/50 between calling or raising for sure. I ultimately decided I'd get more chips by calling if I had the best hand in this spot, and I agree if he calls my raise then it really narrows his range so it would be a lot harder to call that river.

My trip was awesome!!

One cash on twelve entries, including zero bounties in 2 (kind of 3) bounty tournaments.

Finished the trip ZERO FOR TWELVE on my last 12 allins with cards still to come, including two of them for bounties where I was 95 and 80% when the cards go on their backs).  1/4096 shot assuming average of 50% equities.

Had coffee spilled on me and my Peter Millar pullover I got at Bandon Dunes then the dude who spilled it screamed at me for it.

Aria stole $800 from me (I registered as alternate, explicitly asked and was told I could get a refund as long as I didn't take the seat; was playing video poker while I wait, machine freezes mid-hand with a huge draw pending and me with hundreds of dollars in machine; I have to flag down 3 different people and wait an HOUR to get the fucking thing unlocked; finally do (miss draw obv); go to get refund, whoops sorry we put your chips in play no refunds after reg closes). This is the third bounty tournament I referred to above.

Made plans once poker was done around picking up a rental car for the last day, get there, sorry no car! (cue Seinfeld reservations clip).

SWA broke the pull handle on my luggage, then delayed my return flight so that I got to my house at 5AM.

Shit gets OLD.

I didnt recognize the colors and their value.

I originally posted that play only makes sense if the SB was the massive table chip leader. Because folding there makes sense because it allows him to go another few hands being the table bully on the button, where he would get more chips long term by raising heavy in every pot and pretty much everyone who "needs" to make the money is folding almost every hand. That would allow him to make more chips back than he would lose by folding there.   But seeing the relative size of his stack I though he was more shortstacked than that.

yeah even 27o is an auto call for 3k to win 19k (and get much closer to the actual bubble).

Holy Hell.  Play four days of the Main.  Get dealt AA.  Bill Klein raises 60K ($1.6 million).  You flat (700K0.  Rigby calls (95% vpip...lol).  Player in SB with 1.1 million dollar stack jams all in with AQ offsuit.  Klein calls.  AA guy calls.

$2 million chip main pot.  $1.1 side pot (rough estimates)

Flop K and two unders.  Bingo Bongo - Klein gonna have a $3.5 million chip stack.

Turn J

River 10

This game is a cruel, cruel mistress.

  • 2 weeks later...

poker gods really hated me today.   last weekend was a net +1100.

My 3rd dealt hand I am the button. live $10 straddle, FTA makes it $30,  no one folds, between him and me, every single player calls the $30 until its my turn. Ive got AKdd.

Theres $160 in the middle, and I rip it.  only caller is FTA.  I ask if he wants to go more than once, he says 3 times, I agree.  hes got A6ss.

1st deal, doorcard is a 6, I dont improve. 2nd deal Flop is an A T 7 , 7 turn, 7 river.... thats a tie.  3rd deal, 2 diamonds on the flop, the problem is one of those is the 6d.. no K no diamond.  end up losing 5/6ths  Get $125 back.   addon for another $175.

2 rotations later, ive got around $480 in front when I am the CO, and UTG makes it $6, 2 players later makes it $15, next guy raises to $30.  I look down at AKhh.  I make it $80.

all 4 players call the remainder needed. 5 to the flop.

Qh, 5h, 2d, checks to me, and I shove.  FTA has $340 left, he calls. everyone else folds. He asks if we want to go 2 times, I agree. He doesnt show his cards.

1st board, no hearts hit, no A, J on the river.  2nd board, no hearts, no A, 8 on the river.

Hes got J8hh.  and scoops.  I addon for another $125,   I win a few small hands to get to  $275. Then get a bomb pot.

I have 3489  Three spades, but they dont play.

top board is A25, bottom board is 67T.

5 callers on my $45 pot bet.   Then comes turn

Top board was A257 d flush draw.  botton was 67TQ (4 suits), checks to me, I shove for $230, get 2 callers.

River puts a non-flush 8 on the top board, and a J on the bottom.    guy to my left has  A456 Other dude has K967.   (neither had diamonds)

If the 2 river cards reverse I get 3/4 of ~$1k pot. instead I leave, down $600.

nobody was really deep, I think I had the most chips of the group.   I honestly thought once it was $80 only the last guy would call. I guess next time I make it $100.

The J8 guy was the one who was UTG and made it $6 initially.

long term I need the call, but Its not just recency bias for me.  I keep getting murdered with or against AK.

$1100 at $2/5. UTG straddle. I make it $35 from UTG1 w As6s. BTN, BB and UTG call. $140 pot.

9s8s7c. Checks to me, I make it $80. BTN folds, BB (reg, competent but aggressive wild at times) check raises to $300 and has me covered. UTG folds.

A. Fold (Lulz)
B. Call $300 leaving pot sized bet behind
C. Raise to X (??)
D. Jam

Do you think he'd do that with an overpair? Smaller flush draw?

on a opposite positive poker story compared to my getting absolutely hosed by the poker gods last week

had a quick 90 min session yest where I had 1 guy that for some reason was targeting me specifically.  we tangled 3 times all-in and another 2-3 times where big pre flop bets went to the flop,  I prevailed in most of them

first time getting 88, MP, $5 straddle, I just call, theres a raise to $25, villain makes it $60, folds to me, I shove $250 effective, LP folds villain snap calls and asks to run it twice.  OK

He had AQ

flop one: 855AQ

flop two 778A3 daaamn

1 round later hes got $400 in front,  double straddle $10 is on, I am EP and limp with JJ (expecting him to raise- hes the first straddle), 2 calls and villain makes it $80, double straddle calls the $80. I shove. folds to villain and both of them call. all of us agree to run it twice.    I flip over the JJ and both grimace as they both turn over TT.  no straight no flush, #winner  daaamn again.

villain is still extra active on raises, so I get AKdd, limp he makes it $60, I shove, he snap calls $200 with QTo. run it twice again.  this time we chop. wudda lost the first board (again  fking AK not winning).

lost  $200 to another guy later on.  finished up $1200 after just 90 mins.

Similar thing happened to me...I'm in BB with 800 and have AdKd in a 1/3 game.  UTG opens for $31.  Seven players (!) limp behind.  I'm thinking I've got to reduce the field so I pot it.  ALL BUT ONE PLAYER CALLS.  I guess I should've ripped it in?  SPR seems too high for that.  I do rip it in on a J84r flop and get called by some fool who double flatted preflop with JTo.  I don't improve.  Fuck me.  I guess it's good for the game that this many fish are in the pool but damn...

Shit, isn't a pot bet like $300 at that point? Does UTG cover you? Is he an OMC?  I'm probably just ripping it in, yea. That kind of raise reeks of 99-QQ. I'm good with flipping with the dead money in the middle.

I don’t mind either play preflop. Don’t think bluff jamming flop from early position was EV+ though. Too likely some of the 7 opponents had SPR spots where they’d call even if you showed them AA (which a flop jam screams here)

Pretty much a rule to never bluff when 4-way+
