Speaking of insurance, guess who gets to pick up the tab for the increase in accidents and injuries?

The rest of us.

Because socialism.

I’m not going to pretend like I care a lot about the vehicle inspection thing - I live in Houston and I’d guess 1/5 vehicles here aren’t street legal already - but it seems like a solution in search of a problem.

So the school chaplain thing and the no-inspection thing are seriously about to become law?! What. the. ever-loving fuck.

Vote for us! We'll make our already shitty roads more dangerous! and put potentially predatory religious spies in with yo' kids!

This has got to be the worst session this state has ever seen. I don't know why I'm shocked but this is all just fucking CRAZY

From that link

Republicans really have become the dumbest fucking people.  We're headed towards a state run by MTGs and Boeberts.

It's really fucking embarrassing because Goldman is a UT grad.

That fucking idiot does not realize how many Texans will absolutely drive their tires bald and run their brakes down to save a few bucks or because they don't want to be inconvenienced.  I bet if Goldman went out and surveyed 100 of his constituents on what makes for a good tire tread, he'll get dozens of answers.

Actually, Goldman probably does know that many Texans will drive their cars on bald tires and with bad brakes, but he's just trying to keep that MAGA crowd backing him. It doesn't affect him if wrecks increase, injuries increase, insurance rates go up, etc.

Almost all of us here probably knew plenty of people who wouldn't get their cars/tires/brakes fixed if it weren't for inspections.

We're all going to enjoy driving 65-75mph (or higher) on crowded highways with dipshits on bald tires and bad brakes. We have to go through Dallas a few times a year, and they love their construction and no shoulders and concrete barricades that keep the lanes tight.

Lin Manuel Miranda Wow GIF by Desus & Mero

a) I too am surprised the insurance lobby didn't kill this.  A lot of small communities make good money off of expired inspection/registration.   Another group that would be against this.

b) New York state didn't have vehicle inspections 15 years ago, but now they do.  So of course Texas is eliminating theirs.

c) The next thing to be eliminated will be the emission inspections.

I’ve always thought that things like side mirrors and taillights aren’t really necessary.

It's just a personal choice if you use your blinker or not, or if your brakes work. Affects absolutely nobody else and will definitely not cause insurance rates to rise further.

Damn Joe Bidens inflation driving up my insurance rates! [/maga]

Really surprised, because there will be a fuckload of people driving on bald tires and with bad brakes because of this.

They could have ended it back in 2021 during COVID when inspections were suspended/delayed and they could say "see we don't need them", but nope, it's all about the freedumbs in 2023.

Some of that is federal though, and tied into highway funding, etc., so the larger cities/counties can't avoid it (don't think it necessarily applies to rurals).

Of course, this is Greg Abbott's Texas, so I could see that fucking idiot saying "hey, let's get in a fight with the feds over emissions and highway funding, who cares how much it costs and how much it fucks Texans over, I'm fucking desperate for MAGA outside of Texas to love me, because it's not fair that I put in decades of work, since before DeSantis was in college, and I should be the second-place candidate behind Trump, not that kid DeSantis, but that Meatball just waltzed into the race AND ITS' NOT FAIR I'M PRETTY TOO LOOK AT ME!"

I'm not going to defend this lege, but I'm not super worked up about this one. Granted this was more than 25 years ago, but I was a state inspector for Quik Lube for a couple years in college and I can count the number of cars that failed during that time on two hands. In my experience the people who drive cars with failing brakes and busted headlights also don't get their cars inspected. I'd wager that's even more true now that we don't use inspection stickers, because they don't register their vehicles each year, either.

[monkey side-eye] yeah, like I DEFINITELY don’t have a 99 F-150 that hasn’t been registered since 2013 because I only take it fishing and hunting and hauling shit…nope. I don’t have that at all.

I thought for sure that was doctored. Nope. Went to the House archived video online and it's legit. It's also obvious that it happened during the session. The House session is long and well before that he is talking normal. So not only did he seem to be under the influence, but it seemed to happen during open session. Unreal.

What's Texas going to be like after one or two more sessions like this? Criswell Predicts:

Reverse income tax (those with incomes over $1 million get a taxpayer-funded bonus for being "job creators")

Homestead tax caps --homes with values exceeding $1 million have taxes capped at that value.

Compelled daily recitation of the State Pledge, Pledge of Allegiance, and Lord's Prayer

Public school teachers* must also be a certified weapons instructor and an ordained priest/pastor

(*Most current public schools will have been converted to reprogramming centers for "treatment" of LGBT persons)

Public university degree plans must be "sponsored" by a corporate donor related to that field of study

Voting eligibility limited to white cis hetero male landowners living in counties with under 25,000 people. Municipal officials in cities > 10,000 people will be appointed by the Legislature.

Mandatory carry of firearms (if caught unarmed, civilians will pay a Protection Service Fee to fund police and border patrol)

Free fire zones along border where civilians can hunt undocumented immigrants for sport

All roads tolled (triple rate for electric cars and hybrids)

All internet porn blocked

Draconian sentences for drug and street crime; no penalties for financial, environmental, or tax crimes, or naked corruption

Abortion, contraception, and extramarital sex will be illegal. Married couples will be required to engage in state-supervised reproductive sessions at least twice a year unless the woman is certified to be pregnant or past menopause.

Women over 25 and men over 30 but still unmarried will be assigned a husband/wife by the State.

I know this is supposed to be classic satire/hyperbole.
I would bet you $1000 right now that a majority of elected GQP officials in texas would support that platform today, in its entirety.

Louisiana has a law that you have to have a state ID to look at porn online, which is a great way of them seeing who is looking at porn since it's easy to flag anybody using their digital state IDs to do so. If you don't sign in with a state-approved ID to those sites, they block you.

Texas legislators have proposed a similar law.

Drunk af while gaveling in decisions that affect millions of Texans?  Nah he a cunt.

And that goes for any of these chucklefucks that get hammered in the chamber. They are there every other year and somehow cannot toe the line during an active session day?  That’s immature and nfg behavior that should be called out every damn time.

Only way you do something like that is if you are an alkie and need help, or you have such a low opinion of the citizenry  that you have no qualms about being recorded into the archives as being literally drunk with power.

Nice abs and cum gutters though!

the big tell was that his muscle memory kicked in and he correctly and clearly states the procedural rules but when it came to the unique to the moment's proper nouns and titles, that's when the real mumbling kicked in along with visible mouth issues.  /nojudgement      But that's not acceptable during active floor debate especially at the end of session with so many major pieces of legislation running through there.

We...being that I'm not  going to show up at a GQP precinct convention to pitch this platform, so...I guess we'll not know anytime soon.

Unless, of course, someone DOES propose this platform....which is possible, so we'll see.
