The National are teasing something new for this year. They released a teaser video with snippets of two songs on Friday imbedded over an image that hinted at song titles and collaborators. Not sure of the date but probably Spring.

4/28 release. New tune "Tropic Morning News" out today on your favorite streaming services -- and I like it a lot on first spin.

Tickets for world/NA tour go on sale next Wednesday. No Texas dates as yet.

sorta meh on first listen. its pretty tepid IMO. pretty sure he's still off the drink but i like dark, mopey Matt more. and my favorite part of the national, it being the drums, are definitely not a feature of that first track. I'm sure it'll grow on me, but then i did love the last album too.

i was hoping for a full on collaboration with justin vernon after they released "weird goodbyes" last year, but i'll take any new national i can get.

anyone here like circa waves?  the album they put out last week is pretty solid.

That's better than every song on their last album, IMO.

Really? I thought there were some really terrific songs on the last album. "Rylan" is one of my favorite National songs ever.

ryuchi sakamoto - 12

john cale - mercy (tomorrow)

rerelease of mogwai young team (february)

m83 - fantasy (march)

lana del ray - did you know there's a tunnel under ocean blvd (march)

everything but the girl, smashing pumpkins, and the national all have april albums.

eluvium releasing something new in may.

peter gabriel has promised that i/o will release some time this year.

I was trying to remember what the last The National album was - it was the one with all the female vocalists. It was fine but didn't really seem like the same band. I don't think I listened through it more than a couple times.

They're never going to be what they were from 2007-2013 and that's okay. They'll definitely need to reearn my interest though and that single isn't doing much for me. I'm sure I'll listen to the new album but I don't expect a whole lot from them anymore.

Their real fuck up was Trouble Will Find Me being too good to ever follow.

Yeah Rylan was pretty great off of I Am Easy To Find. I liked the album. It was a departure but they had a whole theme going with it and the featured female artists. I saw speculation that Weird Goodbyes not being on the album is because we're probably getting a 2nd album of B-side material later in the year. There was a blurb on their website about Weird Goodbyes only being a digital release for now as it will have a future home on a physical medium later.

I've listened to every National album dozens of times. I listened to that last one once. Just didn't do it for me at all.

wow - that is certainly a take.  trouble will find me is excellent.  i'd agree that it was their last great record, though i have liked the last two plenty.

There's been a lot of scuttle that Turnpike Troubadours recorded a new album sometime last year in Muscle Shoals.  They haven't said a word officially.  Would love for that to see the light of day ASAP.

I am Easy to Find was their worst effort collectively, but Light Years is one of the best songs they have produced.

As mentioned above, I think Rylan is a wonderful song. I also like Not in Kansas and Light Years quite a bit. You Had Your Soul With You is pretty good too.

new hold steady slams and goes pretty fucking hard.  Sixers and Birdwathers are excellent.

I fucking loved Open Door Policy but have struggled to get into this one as much.

Saw The New Pornographers (Neko Case, AC Newman plus others) last night with my pops. Really solid group and their latest album from a few weeks ago is especially good. A couple I like:

It's very good.

There is not enough Bryan Devendorf on this album for my taste. And I hate when artists drip-feed singles months before the album release; it ruins the anticipation and excitement of hearing the songs in context. I think the best songs were the ones already released, kind of like seeing the best parts of a movie in the preview.

There aren't enough percussions-driven bangers on this album, fine. But the lyrics get a bit schmaltzy on the slow jams and the melodies are a bit trite on the uptempo jams. I like it because Matt makes everything sound pretty good for the most part and its The National. It'll take me a while to love this album i think, once i'm able to align the prereleases back into the album and hear them in the context the band/producer wanted them, but right now its on the lower end of favorite TN albums.

How I'd rank the tracks:

1. Tropic Morning News

2. New Order T-shirt

3. Eucalyptus (best drums)

4. This isn't Helping

5. Grease in Your Hair

6. Once Upon a Poolside

7. Send for Me

8. Ice Machines

9. Your Mind is Not Your Friend

10. The Alcott (really wanted more from this one)

11. Alien

 * I reserve the right to change my mind after seeing this album live. Can't wait.

About halfway through. I like this much, much better than their last one. They sound like The National again.

@Bottlecap I really hadn't listened to the singles much - I think I listened to one or two of them a couple times. Maybe that helps.

I labored through this, and skipped forward through some of the songs. They have turned into a band I just don't care to listen to, sadly.

I like the new National but they really need to bring the drums back. There's a live recording of a show they did the whole album front to back coming out this Wednesday. It will be interesting to hear the live versions which should have more life to them.

I know this isn't a big hip-hop thread but this album is fucking amazing and transcends genre. I'm trying to think the last time I heard a rap album this impressive.

Instant classic. Chappelle does the intro on the third track. CeeLo to kick it off. Crazy feature list - Andre 3k halfway through.

Even if you are very picky/choosy when it comes to hip-hop I might check this one out.

new sigur ros came out on friday.  easily the most ambient of their albums.  will be a hit with some of their fans and too slow for others.

I like it. In a "if I need help sleeping" sort of way.
