Do yall want to do a dinner in Austin? Same thing? I'm sure we can do that if the big deal is the Tuesday night drive.

I think they plan on doing these in each large metro if the turnout in Houston shows that it is worth it. Attendance to the first one is a big deal. Organizing one in Austin will also be a big deal.

I’d rather do DFW, but I want the turnout in Houston to encourage more of them, so maybe it’s worth making the trip.

Let me put it in a way that more people will understand. The people hosting this dinner are tired of having to do virtually all the NIL funding outside of what we've put together here.
The sustainability of the current status quo is not there and more people need to get involved even if it's just 1k at a time.

Chicken and egg problem.

Win more fucking games first.

I don’t live in Texas any more, but I’m in for the cause and in the Houston/Dallas debate (as a former resident), I am firmly on the H-town side. If my response places me in the top 10 I’ll defer my seat to the poster the other people at the table vote in.

Unless it’s Greenspoint, in which case I’m sending a fuckkng homeless dude my cousin picks up at the bus station and plies full of Thunderbird and butter.

I’m 100% serious about the first paragraph, 60% on the second….

We are talking about the legalized paying of players with the largest and richest alumni base in the country. If we don’t pistol whip our competition with our NIL fund then something is seriously wrong. This shouldn’t be about Sark or needing to see results first. This should be about giving our team and unfair advantage like these hillbilly fucks in the SEC have been enjoying for decades.

Is it more important to donate for the event or donate AND show up? I don’t mind contributing, but personally don’t care for attending events like this.

Unless of course Pole Assassin will be there, in which case I’ll wear my finest business casual.

For surly posters coming in from out of town, I’m buying drinks and the first lap dance at Men’s Club Tuesday night.

Given the creation of this thread, I’m sure they’d be plenty happy with just your skrilla

Are you arranging these, Immamac?

If you ever decide to have something in Fort Worth, happy to contribute and host at the Flatiron building downtown.  The Fort Worth Club / Petroleum Club would probably be the obvious, but the Flatiron has some unique charm - plenty of alumni in the area looking to contribute too.

1) do we have to RSVP or can we just show up? I have a surgery that might be two weeks before this or might be on this day so I’m not ready to commit personally at this time but will probably be able to be there

2) if you just show up and it being a 1 time donation I assume they take plastic at the door?

3) anyone doing a home loan with @Scipioand myself between now and the event date will be on scholarship to this thing if they want to go to this thing, as is our tradition in doing random stuff to support this site and it’s efforts.

Where is the link to donate and/or what table are we assigned to? Coming from SA. What hotel are most of you overnighting at?

You fuckers. It's time to put up or shut up. 1k, do it like a boss and don't even show up. Want to talk to eight win Esteban? Probably not. Wanna hang out with soberish CDC? Not a chance.

You do it because you want Texas athletes to be incredible leaders in their communities.

More info to get updated in OP.

Dang. Not that I can afford it right now, but if this was the next Tuesday, I'd definitely be applying for the Immamac scholarship. I live in Florida and can't drive 7 hours to Houston on a random Tuesday. I am going to be in Houston the next Tuesday though as I drive through on my way to San Antonio for my wedding that week. Just my luck this event would be the week before.

I'm in northern Colorado and not planning to travel to Houston. I will however sponsor one of the Surly 10 if they're excited about going but truly can't afford it.

If nobody really wants to go, I'll instead donate directly to the Texas One Fund. https://texasonefund.kindful.com/ I take it this is the correct link?

That link works, but you might want to consider:

1) Not sponsoring 1 of the 10 Immamac has already agreed to cover. Because 11 is more than 10.
2.) You might want to register for the actual event in question, not just the general one fund link you have above, and then just no show the event or tell another surly person to show up and give your name. Or register in their actual name and pay the 1k.

Your post brings up a common issue, which is that too many people have the perception that everything is already taken care of from big money donors. I can tell you with certainty that not only is everything not already taken care of, but we're pretty far off from having anything that resembles a sound annuitized structure, which is the long term goal. So guys like you stepping in to help are appreciated. Anyone subscribing to TOF for monthly donations are a huge help, even if it is for a small amount each month.

Also, since we're talking about big money folks - there are multiple billionaires who are Texas Exes who have declined to contribute, largely because it's not something that they can put their name on at this point. They don't "believe" in paying college athletes, as though the concept is religious or resembling that of Santa or the Easter Bunny. So yeah, we need the non-billionaires to participate if Texas going to keep winning in NIL.

I’m only a few years removed from graduating and have some big life purchases coming up soon, so as much as I’d like to, dropping 1k on this probably isn’t going to happen rn. But definitely have plans to get more involved in the near future. I know I can wrangle some friends to chip in as well when we are all more into our careers.

Okay that's what I'll do. Apparently, I misinterpreted Immamac's post and thought he wanted to line up a table of 10, not that he had already paid for a table. It was one of the first things I read while drinking my morning coffee. Thanks.

Apparently paying 1k for someone to show up to something isn't really drumming up much interest. I may just donate all 10k under my name instead since people haven't shown much interest at all in that offer.

It really goes to show how far Burnt Ends has taken things for the depth chart. None of the depth guys are getting hardly anything, that went for Roschon before we ponied up last year for the BMF award. To my knowledge we are still J Brooks only NIL $$ and while it wasn't huge, it was big enough to keep him from even considering the portal and trolling a bit.

If you think that the Texas NIL Machine is comprised of hundreds of wealthy people I've got news for you, as of now the majority of what has happened regarding NIL is fewer than 10 people and Surly Horns as an aggregate.

There has definitely been a lot of jawing and chest puffing when we talk to people regarding this, but when it's time to stroke checks they make like @Barbacoa and fuck right off into nothingness.

I donate to both burnt endz and Texas one fund, but probably can't do $1000 in one go. I can definitely be one of @immamac's +9's though.

Also a caveat for the top 10 in rep, don't forget that both futureman and burntorangeandwhite are like top .5% of rep on surly.

I know you talk about this all the time and I appreciate the sentiment but charity is a personal thing.  We do 5 figures through compassion international (and other similar charities with direct aid to registered impoverished) a year- that goes to feeding a kid for $50 a month, then you can give a yearly gift of $1,000, you can give birthday gifts of $100, shit like that.  We got 5 because we all picked someone with our birthday and we write to them, and pray for them and the like.  When we get back pictures of the cow they bought so they now have economic security, or the tin roof shack so that they don't have to live in the mud anymore, or see the micro businesses they are starting with chickens and goats and selling shit there is no way I'm putting paying Texas football players in front of that- if it's an either/or.  So I totally and completely get the idea that a Billionaire has bigger fish to fry with their charitable giving than Texas One, or anyone on here.

But, and this is a huge ass but, if they are giving money hand over fist to the athletic department b/c they care about Texas winning and being good at sports they just HAVE to reconsider Texas One.  No facility in the world is going to attract top talent if somebody else is paying that top talent.  The idea that they give $5M to stroke their own ego with a naming right on something that doesn't move the needle and sit out funding the pay to players while guys like yall and Immamac are carrying a big load is just bullshit and we have got to do something as an AD to get over whatever is causing that rift and point out to the benefactors that talent is the lifeblood of the program and it's money a lot better spent to get a few missing pieces in the portal or on the recruiting trail than to buy out 8 win Estaban, because 8 win Esteban might have been 11 win Steven with Addison and a sack machine in the portal smoothing out our two biggest areas of need.  I know I'd rather see the checks written for success to players than chasing buy outs on guys who can't get it done because they are outmatched and outgunned on the talent front.

That's the response to the Billionaire.  The response to the guy on this part of the site that hasn't contributed is - why the hell not?  You are kind of being a bad person, if you use this site all the time, value the community it creates, and can't fork over the inconsequential amount of $9.99 a month.  Don't be a free rider.  Contribute to Burnt Endz.  or Texas One.  But it's just really shitty that you would take something that gives you this much joy and give back nothing in return. I honestly don't understand that sentiment at all.  We've got 60,000 unique users.  It shouldn't be asking too much for Surly alone to be pumping 7 figures into the Texas One or Burnt Endz account.  I just don't understand people. I don't understand the docs and lawyers with 20,000 posts on this site that can't be bothered to set up a 10 a month contribution.  People are strange and I don't understand them.

Not to cannibalize Burnt Ends, but $10 a month to OneFund is also on the table. I contribute monthly to both.

When you have the means to help more, ask. There are a lot of folks around. But poneying up for OneFund in the short term monthly, and  Burnt Ends, seems doable for you and your buddies. As you get older and more successful, I imagine your efforts can/will increase naturally.

Man that's not how I meant it at all, I've been steadfast in saying that yall are doing amazing work and I'm truly impressed.

If you will notice I said "we've got to do something as an AD" which pretty directly points out I'm not talking about yall at all.  I don't know what it is that the AD would need to do to get the money flowing. I suspect it might be as simple as a direct pitch to the benefactor that "hey- this is really important- any money you contribute here will directly benefit the program more tangibly than any other money you can contribute" but that would require the AD to be selfless as pertains to turf battles and alturistic in looking out for the best interests of the program.  So, just the want to I suspect would be able to get it done.  Beyond that- making Texas One donations equivalent to LHF points (I know yall are working on that but again- that shouldn't have to be your battle) would certainly help for some of the $200 donor (really more like the $5,000-$10,000 class in there I would think), while if the big money guys need to see their name put on something then put their name on something for a big enough donation to Texas One.  Instead of spending $5,000,000 to have the tennis center named after you (or whatever it is) name the Tennis Center after the guy that endows the Tennis program with a $5,000,000 endowment that kicks off $300,000 in income every year to pay $100,000 to our Top 3 tennis players and I bet you would get the top 3 tennis players over having the nicest tennis facilities.  You can always put 2 names on the building (or name the damn court or something) and get to the same place.
