I found a leftover chicken soft taco in the break room fridge and ate it.

Made be a bit "loose" but no problem. Glad I have the story to tell.

Sounds like you’re about to become a “made man” in the shart mafia. Welcome to the club!

My worse loss at a blackjack table was in Vegas about 5 years ago.  I was up about 8K for the night.  Started with 2K and have about 10K upstairs in the safe.  I bet 1k as my "final" bet of the night.  I get two 8s.  Dealer is showing a 6.  I split.  get two more 8s.  I split again.  get an 8 and a 2.  So i split again.  Dealer says you can only split 5 times.  So that's where I'm at.  There is now 5K on the table in bets.  I get 2s and 3s on all the hands.  So now I have either a 10 or an 11 on each hand.  I double down.  I get 7s and 9s.  So I have basically 18-20 on all 5 hands.  with 10K on the table.  I'm feeling pretty good.  Dealer flips over a 5 and I think to myself oh shit.  I'm proper fucked.  She flips over an Ace so I feel better.  She now flips over a 3.  so she's at 15.  I say wow there is basically only one card that can fuck me.  Just as I think that.  She flips over a 6.  I went on tilt after that and proceeded to lose another 10K that night.  Worst beat of my life.

I flew to Vegas just to bet Mayweather against McGregor. Had to figure out the process for wiring money to the cage, etc. My biggest bet on a sporting event by a lot.

I considered it more investment than gamble, but with that much money in play I was a nervous wreck all day.

I had a lot of dollars on Floyd, too. Exact same feeling. You know he’s going to win but your mind just keeps going through the nightmare scenarios.

I played the WSOP main event.  Bucket list and what not.  Got $5K in investors and $5K of my own money.   Made it to Day 2 and got a table with Shaun Deeb, another guy whose name popped up on Hendon database with a few nice sized cashes and five others all with healthy stacks.  After the first thirty minutes I felt very comfortable that Deeb, myself, or the other guy were going to walk away from the table with a pretty big stack if the table stayed together most of the day.  Play about half the day and grind the stack up a bit.  Then flop a pair and flush draw, turn double gutter, and river a straight only for the other guy to have gutted a bigger straight.  Then ran Queens into Kings short stacked.  Poop.

I lost with 4 Aces to a Royal Flush at a table in Louisiana years ago that just about turned me off of gambling all together.   The guy stayed in with Q, 10 of spades despite my trying to push him out at every bet/raise.  I had AA hearts and clubs.  Flop comes A(d), K(s), J(s), turn K(d) river A(s).  There were three players after the flop and only one after the river and I thought maybe someone has a flush draw, or a straight or full house (Ks over As) or even 4 Kings but I never saw the royal flush coming.   I'm "ALL IN!"

The guy who won also received the jackpot for Royal Flush that had not been won in something like 2 months.

Not sure how you are going to "push him off" the nuts on the flop when he has the nuts and redraw to the ultimate nuts. You don't want to push him off of the turn.

Yep.   Preflop was the only time he could have been pushed off the hand.   How big was the preflop raise?

Lock thread. Blacklab wins again.

Don’t even get him started on websites.

A few years back I used to gamble football pretty heavily. I would play 50+ plays on college and every NFL game and had a lot of big ups and downs. I can’t even count the number of bad beats with big dollars on the line from stupid shit happening at the ends of college games. It’s part of the reason I quit playing.

However, the worst single loss I remember was on NE/TN in the snow several years ago. I had a friend that had played college ball with one of the TN DB’s. He texts him the morning of the game that both NE corners were going to be out and TN was playing okay that year and had a great practice. It was a double digit line, in the snow with no DB’s so I went 4 figures each on TN, the under, and an under/TN teaser figuring the absolute worst case was 1 out of 3. It ended up 59-0 with Vince Young and Kerry collins combining for no yards passing.

We had a college bookie back in the day. I would bet around $100 a weekend (usually $20 a game). Had a few bad weeks and a few good. Nothing crazy, however my two favorite stories from friends in college:

#1. Had a tight ass roommate that never paid for shit and was the biggest penny pincher I had ever met. Well one of our friends convinced him to bet $20 on a game. He lost, friend got him to bet another $20 to "break even", he lost, then got him to bet $40 on a "lock of the week" he of course lost. I have never heard or seen someone throw as big of a fit as that guy did when he cut his loses and had to pay $80.

#2. Another friend gambled way too much on everything, NFL, college football, college basketball, NBA, etc. Well he was down about $1K and he bet $1K to "break even" and never bet again, if he lost he was going to have to call his parents to tell them and get them to bail him out. I don't remember the exact game but it was the Lakers vs someone and the Lakers were favored by like 4 or 5. I was in college in the late 90's so the only up to date scores you got for games in progress was on the ticker at the bottom of HLN. Why he would bet that much on a game that wasn't televised I will never know. Well predictably it was close and I don't remember exactly how it ended but the Lakers covered by 2 or 3. My friend was throwing up non stop during the game because he was so nervous.

I've had lots and lots of sports bets over the years that came down to the very end (the point spread is efficient and all), but two large-ish bets stick out in my head; one win and one loss both on pretty rare plays with under a minute left.  I was laying 2.5 with the Colorado Buffaloes a few years back, they score a touchdown to take a two point lead...aaaaaand miss the extra point.  I was fading the Cowboys on (I'm pretty sure) Monday Night Football and late in a game that my bet was rarely live the Cowboys are covering by a point facing 4th down inside their own 5.  Snapped it out of the end zone on purpose to take the safety / free kick / field position instead of risking a punt.  Easy winner.

A few years ago for my brother's 40th, 3 couples went to Vegas. After a long day at wet and dinner at Tao everyone heads back to room except me and brother. (Looking back I feel so stupid)

I'm feeling a little ran down and full and he wants to go to strip club. "Let's go to Rhino, I'll give you a couple of thousand". I'm like nah I don't feel like it.

We end up walking to Cromwell. Go to high limit room and he buys in for 2k.

Plays for a bit, is up 1k.

I'm feeling lucky. Bets 3k. Gets 66 vs 4. Get a 10 and stays. Gets a four and doubles. Next card a 5. But none of that shit matters b/c dealer is going to bust, right? Under card was a 10. Score! Next card a 3 for 17.

Fucking Al of that b/c I didn't want to go to the strip club. I'm a terrible brother.

I've never bet more than $1k on any single game. I've been betting with bookies and online books and real books for 20 years but luckily I have a gene that doesn't really allow me to tilt.

I used to have a settle number of 1k when I was with a bookie. One particular fuck that I remember was that I was over by a bit going into Saturday night and I laid a large bet on a Mayweather fight. Mayweather always wins by decision. I think it was like $800 to win $500 or something like that and it would have gotten me under. Everything is going as planned and then the dumb fuck fighting Mayweather - Ortiz - goes for the glove tap during live action.

College days in Cali.  Long ago.  I had no experience in sports betting.  Roommate has a bookie (bookie is a loose term as it was just another college guy that took bets for someone else) and convinces me to bet with him.  Usual story, we start at like $50 a game and start losing early saturday and try to double up.  By monday we are down about $5K (which included a $1K bet my roomate did not tell me about) and I had about $150 to my name.  We want to double it on monday night but bookie says we have to pay first.  My roommate goes to his apartment and gives him his car keys as collateral .  My college was in northern cali and roommate was huge 49er fan.  We went to the game, Niners vs Redskins.  This was montana, rice days.  Niners won easily.  We were drunk.  I did not bet on a sporting event again for nearly 15 years.

I had a similar situation. Just out of college without a pot to piss in. Went on a terrible losing streak during bowl season and went down $8k. Main reason I got in such trouble was collect days got lax because there were games everyday. I figured that I might as well try to get even. After all, is there that much difference in 2 broken legs versus only one? Bet 4 games at $2k per and went to the movies. I couldn’t bear to watch. Went 4-0, paid my $800 juice and never bet sports again.

Very similar to FartingMonk, above. Plus 5 true count. $200-$2400 spread. Split to four hands, doubled three of those. Seven max bets on the table. Dealer gets a five card 21 on a Stand 17 game.

Ouch. Plus 5 count, how many times would a 10 have busted the dealer?

I remember reading back in the day that Vince and the Titans were the best bet in football.  They covered some ridiculous amount of spreads where if you'd been betting them every week for those years you'd have made a killing.

Story isn't me so not as cool, but I did witness something outrageously bad/stupid/idiotic/funny.

Was at a roulette table in Bally's about 4 years ago.  I was betting $20 across the table like a pimp!!! I busted out $100 so I got off table to watch.  About that time a drunk as fuck daddy's money frat boy came rolling up to the table.  He throws down about $800 on black.  Shit hits red.  So he throws down another $800 or so on black.  Shit hits red.  This went on about 6-8 turns in a row and dude had to of lost close to 6K in a matter of 10 minutes.  It was glorious yet heart wrenching because you wanted to go punch the little douchefuck in his face.

this one hurts bad,  Ive won more in a single hand in Poker before, and i won several online tourneys where i made 1,000x's my buyin, but this hand I wont forget because it was the poker gods just fucking with me.

its summer 2003, I live in Kansas City, I play at the boats, which at the time, were NOT 24-7 casinos, they were only open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.  In addition there was a state law in place that tried to limit how much folks could lose in one session.  You were only allowed to buy up to $500 in chips every 2 hours. It reset every 2 hours on the hour.

That max chip purchase dynamic really impacted the size of the poker games because unless you really planned (visited the casino 5 times in a week and just bought chips and didnt gamble, or hung out at the damn casino for at least 10 hours), you couldnt have a large stack to play at the start.  So there were only 2 no-limit games playing, either $1/2 or $2/5 and the 2/5 wouldnt start until 7 or later on Fri.

I was between jobs at the time, so cue “it was Friday, aint got no job, aint got shit to do.” and there was some sort of weird slot promotion in effect at Harrah’s, that if you scanned your players card in a machine once every 2 hours (at the time it was called a "cruise"), for all the cruises in the entire day of Friday, you got $100 guaranteed and your name in a drawing at midnight for some big prizes (multiple $1,000 prizes).  I think you needed to play one spin in each 2 hour cruise.  So I had about $10 worth of tokens that I had where I put in my card and a single line pull for 25 cents, every 2 hours for the day, starting at 8am (had to have first scan in before 10a).  and there was an announcement every 2 hours reminding players in the promotion that we had "15 mins left" to scan our cards, so it was easy to do that while playing poker

The 1/2 game didnt start until sometime around 11. so I got there around 9:45, played my one spin, had breakfast, wasted time,  until the $1/2 game started around 11, played all day until 7/8p when the $2/5 game opened, while scanning my card every 2 hours.   I ended up getting the $100 bonus, lost less than $2 in tokens. but didnt win any of the drawings that day.

So I bought in for $200 after playing for 9 hours I was up to around $900, and bought in for another $100 since I was pretty confident I was going to get the $100 bonus.

Proceeded to play all night at $2/5 won some big hands, lost some hands, wasn’t really paying attention because it was one of the few 24 hour gambling days and it was active the whole night.  So I really start getting tired, and finally look at my watch (yes, pre-smartphone), and its just past 1pm on Saturday afternoon… yikes, 26 hours playing poker in a row…. Maybe for some that’s common but it wasn’t for me, and I knew I needed to head back home for some sleep.

So the time glance also happened to coincide with me being about 2 hands away from being BB.  So I start racking my chips,  toss the dealer a $10 tip and verbally let the poker boss (and the table) know Im leaving. I have just over $3300 in front of me. I’m now UTG, and leaving and I tell myself, no reason to play unless its AA.

Its fucking AA.

I make it $25 to play, which is a HUGE starting raise in this game at the time. Most of the table has been there for hours, Ive never come close to leading out that big.  Guy to my left looks at me quizzically,  and raises it to $50.  The guy directly across from me, who has been playing for at least 12 hours with me (and also happens to be the only one on the table that has me covered), makes it $125, folds to me.

Im not fucking around, and make it $350, (which has me taking chips out of the trays to bet out) guy to my left AGONIZES over his decision, mutters for a while, and finally folds. The other guy remaining in the hand reraises to $700……     btw- at the time these are the biggest raises the table has seen pre flop that day.  Also, more importantly, this was also the pre- hyper-agro-asian players, it was the era of “the 4th pre-flop raise is ALWAYS aces (or kings)”

I motion to my stack of 6 trays of red, and say I’m all-in,  My opponent says “I just know you have aces, but how can I fold kings???”

[for the record, WTF? It was another $2500 to call when he only had $700 committed and basically knew I had AA or bluffing, and 6th raise there was ALWAYS Aces back then]

hes got KK, and Ive got AA, and covered both his suits.  Guy to my left exclaims “holy shit, I had “AK!”

so I have to only dodge the case king or a K high straight to take home over $6k in winnings!!!

The door card, the fucking DOOR CARD is the case fucking king!

And just like that, 26 hours of playing, over $3300 Done. Fini. Ende.  Walk of shame back to the car in the parking lot and a stunned drive home.

I know long term I want that call, but the problem is long term I never get that call in that position because Im almost never playing that deep on a table, god it still hurts just to write about it, 15 fucking years later.

Hmmm, I never thought about that.  I played a good deal of poker at the boats in college, would just have a beer and wait for "boarding" if I got there early, but no limit wasn't popular yet...so it was all limit games.  It never occurred to me that the chip buying limits would impact NL game size, but it makes sense.

My biggest gambling win was about 65K, but man it was a story straight out of the Hangover.  I even call it my Hangover night.  So before I transferred to Hawaii I drove my car back to Houston for 30 days of leave.  I had to drive my car back to Seattle to ship it to Hawaii so I decided to make a pit stop in Vegas.  I drive pretty much straight to Vegas except for a stop for a few hours at a truck stop to sleep for 4 hours.  During the drive I get pulled over outside Amarillo for going 115.  Cop is fucking pissed and I think I'm about to go to jail, I show him my military ID and I get a warning.  He tells me to slow the fuck down.  The next morning, I'm driving through New Mexico and get clocked going 105.  Get another warning(cop was brown water navy in the Mekong delta doing riverboat shit.) I told him he was fucking nuts, he said I was a submariner and I was even more nuts.  So I get to Vegas after 20 something hours, tired as fuck.  Check into Planet Hollywood and then go meet them at Marquee.  I start chugging red bulls and vodka trying to stay awake I decide I wasn't having fun at the club and decide to leave and that's where shit got really fucking interesting.

I walk outside and am sitting on a curb drunk and tired right by an ambulance.  EMT walks up to me and asks if I'm ok.  I told him I think I need an IV.  He tells me to hop in.  Next thing I know the sirens are on and I ask what the fuck.  They said if I hop in the ambulance and say I need assistance they are required to take me to the hospital.  I object but off I go.  They roll me into the ER and at this point I decide to pull off my heart monitor attached to my finger.  It flatlines and the nurse comes in and tells me to put it back on.  I comply and I wait which felt like an hour when it probably 5 minutes.  I yank the IV out and the heart monitor off and I bolt for the exit.  I start running(I'm in a full suit and tie dress shoes and all).  I hide in a parking garage to get my bearings.  I see the Planet Hollywood sign and I just make a mad dash for it.  I finally get back to the Planet Hollywood and instead of going to bed, I pull money out of the safe and start gambling.

About 10 minutes into gambling, the dude sitting next to me says "hey man, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but what the hell you get into tonight?"  I asked him what he meant, "he said you're bleeding out of your shirt" I look at my sleeve and sure as shit there is blood dripping out of it from where the IV was.  I said "nothing man"  and cleaned the blood off in the bathroom and kept gambling.  Hours later, my buddies finally find me and say you know where the fuck have you been, you know what time it is?"  I look at my watch, and there is a hospital bracelet wrapped around it and I say "hospital apparently and it's noon"  then my other buddy says "Holy fuck, how much money is in front of you"  I had a bunch of banana chips strewn about in a pile on the table.  Dealer says "About 15 minutes ago, it was 72K, now it's about 65."  They immediately say "he's done"  So we go to the cage and cash out.  It was the longest fucking wait ever.  Later that evening when I woke up.  I went to the safe to look if I really won that much, it looked like a hand grenade exploded in there with a pile of 100 dollar bills.  It was a fun and scary drive back to Seattle.  Then on top of that, I get pulled over by TSA because there was a bottle of mousse in my backpack.  We go to the private screening room and I open the bag and it's nothing but hundred dollar bills and the TSA guy says "I guess you don't trust the banks huh."  I pull the mousse out give it to them and go through to board my flight to Hawaii.  I wish I could say all my trips were that fruitful, but the last few times I've been to Vegas have been a complete and utter diaster.

I've won a few thousand in cash poker in Vegas at the Bellagio, lost a few big sessions, but my friend outdid me on the Super Bowl.

I got a call from a buddy who said he was flying to Vegas to bet on the Patriots because they were gonna crush the NY Giants in the Super Bowl. NE was favored big, something like 13 points? My friend still wanted to take NE to cover. So he flew from Texas and landed Las Vegas on Saturday evening, the night before the game. I told him to call me from the sports book and we can discuss. He wanted to bet at least $10,000 on NE to cover. Then he was gonna hop on a red eye flight back to Texas to watch the game at home. So I asked him what it looked like if he was totally wrong and NY pulled the upset. Taking NY to win (money line) was paying like 4-1. So my advice was bet $8,000 on NE to cover, then take $2,000 on NY money line. If you are right you win $6,000 instead of $10,000. Not bad. If you are totally wrong (and NY wins the game), you break even. If it falls in the middle, lose it all.

So, I hang up the phone thinking he would take my advice. I head out to a big house party to watch the game, not knowing what he did. I need to know before kickoff so i text him. Turns out he bet $12,000 on NE to cover. They lost. Quite a whamboozle as the poker commentator likes to say.

The following year my friend won his money back on some NFL playoff games, in Vegas. But he soon quit making big sports bets after that . . . as far as I know.

Thats the one bet Ive heard that was out there that I truly wished I had known about.

The best defense we had played that year, tOSU, "held" VY to 76 yards.  And it was obvious that USC did not have that caliber of defense. Fresno State put up over 400 combined yards on them.

I heard about the 52/53/54 yard number ( it varied based on which casino you made the bet) about 4 hours before gametime in the Rose Bowl parking lot. Friend told me he put some serious cha-ching on that bet.   I was pissed my friend hadnt called me to tell me about that bet being available.  wudda jumped on it for sure.

I had a crappy job at the time, and wasnt making that much, but I honestly would have had almost no concern in dropping $2k on VY to cover that bet. Thats the most I could have afforded to lose at the time, and the only way he wasnt going to get 55 yards or more would have been if he had gotten hurt ala, Colt in the 09 champ game.

were you able to parley those 2 bets?  I ask because the only way we win is if VY gets more than 55 yards rushing, so you would have been effectively making the same bet, but with the parlay bonus (if it was allowed)

I didn’t make a parlay wager but assume it could have been done. I think I had $500 on the VY over wager. Friend who also went to the game with me bet $1,000 on that one. I think money was flying in on the over because it moved from something like -120 to -170. We shopped our bets around the Strip to get the best odds and we ended up having to collect at 3 separate casinos.

When we told Texas fans at the game about the VY rushing line, they couldn’t believe it.

I had this bet, and Texas to cover (7 or 7.5) AND VY OVER on the rushing total (something stupid like 53 yards). Driving back to Vegas the next day to collect was awesome, as was the party that night. I won a lot of cash money.

We had a pretty big group that met in Vegas.  Everyone there put pretty big money on a variety of Texas bets.  Had I seen the VY rushing yard prop, I probably would’ve bet it, but I decided to keep it simple.  We rented a party bus to drive us to and from the game and when we started loading the alcohol, I thought the driver was going to leave.  That was a very fun 3 days.

I won 2K on a parlay during March Madness that hit because the favorite team rim checked a breakaway dunk in the final seconds that would have covered.

Moments like that are what make March Madness in Vegas great.  I think it was a 8 point line.  Game was over, no one in the real world cared. In the sportsbook it was complete swing of emotions.

The OUSux/aggy 77-0 game.

OU favored by 48.5.

Aggy had beat Baylor 73-10 the week before.  They threw 4 touchdowns in the 3rd/4th Q when they were already up 49-10.  Stoops came out in the weekly press conference and said something along the lines of "aggy felt like they wanted to run the score up I suppose.  Well, if they want to see what running up the score looks like, we'll see about that this weekend."

I was still in school, and didn't have much money other than some leftover student loan money that was supposed to be for rent.  I bet $2k on the first half line -28.5.  I also bet $2k on the -48.5.  Score was 49-0 at half and 77-0 before the end of the 3rd Q.  I got incredibly drunk that evening.

Frans first year at aggy they were playing in Lubbock and only 13.5 dogs if I remember correctly. Can’t remember how much I bet but it was the rest of my account. I wasn’t in college so it wasn’t too much. I had a friend open an account, put it all on that game, then close his account. They lost 59-28 and it wasn’t that close.

I'm almost positive that line was hovering around 30.

As much as a shoe in it felt like.. I took the bet as well. LV was actually pretty spot on with the #.  They didn't factor in VY in big moments which is something they cant do. They have to play the "odds"

I save all my emails.  First year out of school, living in the burbs with my sister 1 hour plus drive to and from work and was bored living in Kingwood working in the Medical Center, so I found other ways to entertain myself.  It worked out for me, but was pissed getting the email below on Monday after my Saturday of parlay winnings.  My "strategy" at the time was start with a 12 team parlay, take 2 off and increase the wager amount as I went down.  I was on quite a roll prior to this, so this "strategy" wasn't how I built my bankroll.  Sportsbook.com had a monthly winnings leader board back then.  I was at or near #1 for three straight months (Dec-Feb '03). Think I had won 10-15k the Friday before this epic Saturday.  Started with a couple sets of 12 teams since I had the available cash.  Well, one 12 team hit so the cascade of 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 went on to hit too.  In the other set had the 8,6,4,2 hit.  First team to hit was 11am Syracuse game.  Jerry Mac hit a three at the buzzer with the game tied to win Cuse -2.  Luck was obviously on my side that day.    So, I'm that guy.  Burb life ended after that, and so did my time dedicated to this.  Although I did win another $43k during the first week of college football that same year.

After a few calls and complaints, (the one 12 teamer won over their 'max') they credited me back $20k.  They have since changed their weekly max to $200k if part of those winnings were from a 12,11, or 10 team parlay.  A couple years too late for me.

A few years later, 2013, BYU costs me a winning day of something like $65k.  Highlights here.  Had multiple parlays with BYU -1, -2, -3. UVA didn't win another game vs a D1 opponent that year.  Maybe run and punt with under 3 min left since there wasn't a lot of scoring going on.  Yes, I still think about that game every time BYU is mentioned along with that disaster of a Texas game.

OU was favored by 31.5 and Stoops obviously didn't say in the pregame presser anything like that.

Also, aggy/Baylor 73-10 game was on Oct 11, and 77-0 was on Nov 8, so it wasn't the week before.  Also, aggy only had 2 passing TDs in the second half of the Baylor game, and one was with their backup QB.

Now the week after 77-0, OU was favored by more than 50 against Baylor, but only won 41-3, Baylor got a ton of sacks and beat Jason White up some, which started the downfall of that season.
