Is every game game #6 now?

Can we move on from the "post Beard" schtick? He's gone. It sucks, but he sucks more, so stop promoting him and focus on the team and non-dumbass coaches.

Plus Rice was the first "post Beard" game so the numbers are wrong anyway.

Technically, my counting is from when Beard was officially terminated.

And no, it's been working for us, mojo wise - just the one loss @ ISU since I started doing these.

  • Pancho changed the title to Post-Beard Game #7 - Texas @ Tennessee (Big12-SEC / Top 10 Matchup); Saturday 5pm, ESPN (College BB Game Day)

Saturday Morning ...  Tennessee basketball vs. Texas to host ESPN's 'College GameDay'

Quote

Tennessee basketball is hosting ESPN's 'College GameDay' when Texas comes to Thompson-Boling Arena on Jan. 28, ESPN announced Saturday.

It marks the fourth time the program will broadcast from Knoxville during the school year. 'College GameDay' picked UT for its football games against Florida on Sept. 24 and Alabama on Oct. 15. Lady Vols basketball is hosting 'GameDay' on Thursday prior to its game against UConn.

The show prior to UT vs. Texas airs from 11-noon ET on ESPN with live hits earlier in the show. It is hosted by Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, LaPhonso Ellis and Seth Greenberg—airs live on ESPN from 11-noon ET. Live hits also will take place in the morning advance of the show.

Tennessee hosts Texas as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge for the second straight season Jan. 28 (6 p.m. ET, ESPN). Vols coach Rick Barnes coached at Texas from 1998-2015. Tennessee lost 52-51 in January 2022 in Austin in Barnes' return to Austin for the first time since he was hired by the Vols.

Tennessee previously hosted 'College GameDay' shows on Jan. 31, 2009 (79-63 win over Florida) and Jan. 15, 2011 (67-64 win over Vanderbilt). The 2011 show preceded a Vols/Lady Vols doubleheader—both games wins over Vanderbilt. The Vols are 3-3 in basketball games for which 'College GameDay' is on-site. They played in four featured road games at Memphis, at Kansas, and at Kentucky twice.

Tennessee is the only school to have hosted 'College GameDay' for football, men's basketball and women's basketball.

Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. ET for fans wanting to be in the live audience. Tickets are not required to take part in the event. Fans can begin lining up to be in the live audience starting at 7 a.m. ET. UT students are asked to lineup at the student gate, while all other fans will enter at Gate D. Free parking is available in the G10 garage. Vehicles must be cleared from the garage by 1 p.m. ET, with digital parking permits required for re-entry.

Can our pretty good offense score on an elite defense and can Barnes’ offense score on our meh defense?

Probably as usual, how Tenn does on shooting BTA will determine a lot. Vescovi, ZZ and Key are pretty good 3 point shooters and our 3 point defense is…laughable

Yeah, if Texas defense doesn't defend 3pt shots better, and fight like Hell to rebound better,  VOLS are just a terrible matchup

They aren't much better shooting the 3 than we are (34% vs 33.4%).

That may be, but they only allow teams to shoot like 20% from three and we are more like 33%. KU and Arizona combined only shot 22.2%

While it does love Tennessee, ESPN’s Basketball Power Index has us #5 overall, finishing 24-7, and a 59% favorite to win the Big 12. Really hoping we can pull out a win on Saturday to keep building some nice momentum headed into the last 10 games. A loss doesn’t hurt much in the end, but I’m ready for the guys to start getting some national respect again and eliminate the skepticism that they can’t do something special without Beard. I’m expecting an ugly ass game like last year unless we can shoot like Tuesday and make Tennessee score with us. Can’t wait.

Shit their conference record, holy shit.

W @Mississippi , 1-7 so far in conference

W Mississippi State, 1-7 so far in conference

W @South Carolina, 1-6 so far in conference

W Vanderbilt, 3-4 so far in conference

L Kentucky, 5-3 so far in conference

W @Mississippi State

W @Louisiana State, 1-7 so far in conference

W Georgia, 3-4 so far in conference

7-1, their loss is to the only team with a winning record (that they have played so far), and this might be the shittiest Kentucky team in Calipari's tenure.

We will definitely need a good interior showing (especially defense and rebounding) from Disu and bishop (and Mitchell when he’s in)

We have to change up our plan on screens because teams have picked up on and exposed our heavy tendency to have our one big man switch and cover a guard and leaving our screened defending guard getting abused by the opponents big screener rolling to the basket

We switched back a little faster, fought through screens, and cheated down some the last couple of games to guard the basket better but that’s left the opponent guards using the screens more open for the 3 point shots

We can beat Tennessee if bishop and/or Disu have a strong showing and stay out of foul trouble

A good game from Allen would really help this weekend … we can’t have him shitting the bed for 1/2 the game

If Texas’ offense is mid bell curve for what it’s been this year we can hang with and beat Tennessee… our defense can keep it within reach even as long as we minimize the wtf moment turnovers and don’t slip into Carr being the only guy touching the ball on offense more than 1 or 2 times a half

I hope Carr hits a game winning 3 as time expires to destroy your soul.  But other than that welcome to the board.

I get the feeling both teams are going to try to push the pace a little tomorrow. BUT, you won’t beat us by shooting the 3-ball. Transition, low-post ball, and offensive rebounding/2nd chance points is where we typically get beat.

Yeah, outside of Kansas they really haven't beaten anybody worth a damn.

Their 2nd best win is Maryland who is on the bubble.

and they should be pretty big favorites in every game from here on out. this postseason will be an absolute disaster for Barnes when his 1 or 2 seed loses in the round of 32.

tennesee's defense is elite, currently the best defense of the entire kenpom era. they remind me of a bigger, better, more athletic TCU. this will be the biggest measuring stick game for this team to this point. i'm really hoping that RT has us eschewing looks from deep for better looks from inside the arc. wide open catch-and-shoot threes from the right shooters are fine, but if we want to win we will have to find a way to score consistently from 2-pt range.

Thanks @BallerVolFan98  I was living in TN when Texas last played there (Durant year).  My wife is an alum.  We drove down for the game last year in Austin making TX v TN basketball games the last two college games I've seen in person.  In both, Texas blew huge 2nd half leads.  Yay.  Here's to a good showing by both teams.

Then you're in good shape to get a W.

Eh, there are some things in our favor but it’s still gonna be a tough one. Two physical teams going at it so I’m hoping the stripes don’t take control of the game and make it unbearable to watch. When the officiating crew is announced tomorrow, pray you don’t see Pat Adams, Don Daily, and TV Teddy Valentine on the list.

But we're only a 15% chance to beat Tenn?

I get that it's a road game, but these numbers don't seem to add up.

Vegas has Tenn -5.5. We are the second biggest dog today in the conference after OU

WV -4 Auburn

OU +6 Alabama

ISU -1.5 Mizzou

Tech -2.5 LSU

TCU -1.5 Miss St

Baylor -6.5 Arkansas

KSU -5 Florida

Kansas +3 Kentucky

Texas +5.5 Tenn

Last night I got it at +7.5 and sprinkled a bit on +250 moneyline. Going to be a fun day, have a feeling the Big 12 dominates besides OU and Tech.

Will be interesting to see how we handle their 7 footer.

4 points, 3 boards last year

Not that far removed from having to guard a taller Edey with a similar lineup in the NCAAT - 11 points and 10 boards

Don’t see that going well.
