3 total hits in that Dodgers/ Giants game tonight

None until 2 outs in the top of the 5th.

Cueto was perfect through 6 until Taylor led off the 7th with a single for the Dodgers only baserunner. Was later erased on a DP.

Giants faced the minimum.

Dodgers have played 27 innings of baseball since Halloween and have scored 1 run in that timespan.

Bet Dodger fans are extra stabby tonight

Pirates score 4 in the top of the 9th to take a 10-6 lead, then the Tigers score 4 in the bottom of the 9th to tie it at 10. Guessing we will see more of that from both teams throughout the season.

Nice comeback win for the Bucs, thought for sure they'd blow it after blowing the lead in the 9th.

The Diamondbacks have placed slugger Yasmany Tomas on outright waivers, according to sources, a move that could amount to little more than his removal from the 40-man roster.

Tomas, who was optioned to Triple-A Reno last weekend, would seem highly unlikely to be claimed given that he still has three years and roughly $46 million remaining on his contract.

Assuming he goes unclaimed, the Diamondbacks would then outright Tomas to Reno. As a player with at least three years of service time, Tomas could refuse the assignment and become a free agent, but that seems highly unlikely since it would mean he would walk away from what’s left on his contract.

Tomas, who signed a six-year, $68 million deal in December 2014, has had a disappointing three years in the organization. He has swung the bat well at times, including in 2016, when he hit 31 homers and posted an .820 OPS (on-base-plus-slugging).

But his defense has made him all but unplayable – at least in the eyes of the club’s current front-office regime. The team tasked Tomas with improving his defense when he was optioned to the minors on Sunday. Even an injury to outfielder Steven Souza Jr. wasn’t enough for the Diamondbacks to keep Tomas on the roster.

Remember that not only did the Tony LaRussa/Dave Stewart clownshow commit $68M to Tomas, they also insisted he was capable of playing third base.

Kapler is managing every out like it’s game 7 of the World Series. He’s gonna kill his bullpen by May. He brought poor Hoby into the game today without him throwing a single warmup pitch in the pen.

Yeah, but he also just brought in an outfielder to pitch.  In the third game of the season.  And maybe they ought to move him to the pen permanently.

Interesting read on some historic factoids from the Giants-Dodgers series thus far:

In 10 plate appearances today, the Astros’ #3 and #4 hitters almost had as many hits (8) as the Dodgers have had in 3 games (11). Same with number of runs (4 for Altuve and Correa today, 5 total for the Dodgers on the season)

We have our own thread, we'll come back here later in the season

We may have the makings of a managerial one-and-done if he keeps this tomfoolery up.

Maybe not even a whole season. I love analytics but at some point you have to get out of your team's way and let them do what the numbers say they'll do. Three games in, he has alienated his ace (and probably other SPs in support of Nola), pissed off the umpires twice (the ghost pitching change, also challenging a sac fly tagup, who does that?), and has overused and confused his bullpen. Also some positional shenanigans. He needs to realize he's fucking up and make some major changes in his own approach.

Very impressive 3-up 3-down. Dominating fastball and tons of movement on the breaking stuff, with a splitter. If that first inning is any indication he’s going to be an All Star this year. That was damn impressive.

Annnnd just like that he falls apart.

Lol, slight hyperbole. Gave up a couple of singles and then a 3-run bomb on a pitch he left over the plate. His stuff is for real though.

What?

Don't run around throwing out neg rep like a bitch. Lighten up. I thought it was funny you were calling a rook an all star after one inning. Damn, new web site where we all get a fresh start and some people are already sensitive little nancys. Whatever I guess.

How about you stop posting like this is a world star hip hop comment section, and then stop whining like a bitch about trivial shit.

Yeah I knew that from the college basketball board when somebody stole his name. But I had forgot already. I'm clear again.

Yeah, I’m the one who’s being sensitive here.

Otani looks to be the real deal, but he's learning the difference  between MLB hitters and Japanese hitters.

Truth.

Fastball hitting 100, big dropping curve at 82, and an 89 splitter that drops even more.  His stuff is just filthy, but he has made command mistakes, and those get punished much more harshly in MLB.

Ohtani today:

•K’d 3 of the first four

•Then gave up consecutive singles and the one mistake for the bomb

•Then retired 14 of the next 15

He was awesome save the one pitch.

He was good, but he missed in the zone a bunch, and the A's (other than Chapman) didn't make him pay.  This is a lot of red and purple (and orange) that's up and middle of the zone:

location.php-pitchSel=660271&game=gid_20

Of course, it's harder to mash a hanging slider when you're having to gear up for 100 mph that might be coming

Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the better teams once they get a book on him.  But his stuff is filthy.
