I didn’t like killing everyone and not saving anyone to interrogate. I thought that was dumb. I also didn’t like Rip driving through the fence to get John to the choppah. I‘ve done that by accident several times in my life and you spend an hour cutting wire off of your driveshaft and rear axle.
But- like everyone else- we enjoy it and it’s our guilty soap opera pleasure.  Glad it’s back on.
Ryan Bingham is noted in the regular credits now too.

They weren't going to show that shit in the middle of a Ram commercial

Watching Rourke try to pass himself off as a fly fisherman murdered my eyes.

Great episodes so far.  Perfect mix of violence, intrigue, and cowboy stuff.

Lots of symbolism in Beth quieting the windchimes with a shotgun.

Part of it is she's a go big or go home kinda woman.  I Loved that wind chime scene, knew something was gonna happen to it when they gave it a couple seconds on the screen, then her "smart bird" quip was gold like RPM stated.  I wanna party with that chick, wearing a bullet proof vest, and accompanying kevlar jock strap.

They drive Rams, the barb wire can only improve the drive shafts and rear axle !

I do find it funny that the premise of every season is someone trying to ‘take’ their land. I’m only 49 but I’ve never heard of a rancher / land owner losing their land. Now what happens 100% of the time, the kids or grandkids inherit the family spread and quickly cash out (but keep any mineral rights)

i double laughed when they mentioned that they’d be coming after tribal land next bwhahahahaha

Oh hell yes.

Upcoming projects in the Sheridan oeuvre include another “Yellowstone” spinoff, “6666,” plus “Land Man,” a series about the West Texas oil boom and bust, inspired by a Texas Monthly article.

Soap opera dressed up as a cowboy show with a Godfather ending.  This show is terrible but I’ll  probably watch season 4.

Moving John Dutton from the hospital to the ranch was straight out of Godfather 1.  Ambulance taking him home, Cars and guys with guns blocking the driveway and, carrying him up the staircase on the stretcher.

Yeah that was a subtle nod to The Godfather like a Mack truck.

Yep.  John promised to pay all of Jimmy's Bill's if he promised not to rodeo.

I thought John was talking to Casey's ghost for damn near 2 full episodes until RIP said something to him.  I thought that was what Beth was referring to when John asked what else they killed. Then, I thought they were going to pan down to John talking to nobody when Beth shot the chime.

Same. And what the hell was he doing in the ghillie suit playing sniper?

Got it (thanks all). I did not connect that Jimmy was "rodeoing" ... assumed he was doing his job and got shot off his horse.

the 'flashback' looked more like a teaser for Y:1883. Tim Mcgraw is uncredited for this ep in IMDB.

Beth is just over the top bitchy.

given the proliferation of high powered guns in this country, i found the shootouts completely believable. not that hard to imagine a Bundy-like situation turning into that...wasnt there a Heat-style shootout with some bank robbers in California somewhere not too long after that movie?

i can't remember all the ins and outs of the business dealings...but surely Jamie didn't have anything to do with the attacks??

Yep, fun facts: Heat came out in 1995, the North Hollywood Bank Robbery was in 1997. The fallout from that made cops around the nation realize that they were outgunned by modern standards, which led to them all now carrying shotguns and rifles inside their squad cars, and to some of the "militarization" of police we see today.

I think they did that for the dramatic effect of Jamie's storyline. By leaving them with nobody to talk they can play the "Was it Jamie, or wasn't it Jamie" stroyline for a while. Of course, they'll negate that with the guy they caught at the casino.

Extremely satisfying first couple of episodes, despite the "skinny margarita with Titos" order.  He should have just left her ass at the bar.

"because you've got all the pussy and half the money" was a great line.

I guess I do haz the confuze on the scene where Monica was walking to the bunkhouse.  So I guess the ranch hands were hanging one of the bad guys?  At first I assumed it was the other way around.

Yeah, it was quick, but if you look, most of the men doing the attacks were wearing clown masks. The dude they stabbed and hung was wearing a clown mask, so they was one of the attackers.

so i was bored and thinking about the parallels of the dutton family to the corleone family.

the main dad in charge.

the war hero son who was set on having his own life (with wife/family), but got dragged back to run things.

the screw-up.  he tries to do good, but even his own family hates him.

the slutty daughter who thinks she's above it all.

the son who's not really a son, but kind of an adopted son and has always shown great loyalty.

i guess the son who died in the pilot was going to be santino.

just skimmed thru the early stretches of this thread.  guess the godfather stuff isn't new, though i don't remember writing this.

i did find some fun complaining about beth (since page 1).  shit has not really improved there.

also was reminded of the mini-infomercial in s2 with sheridan playing cowboy games.  knew this past week seemed familiar.  it wrecks the flow of the show, at least for me.  you guys seem to like it.  whatever i guess.

josh holloway has been a really solid addition for this season.

i'm really enjoying his one scene every other episode where he yells into the phone about how things aren't going well when he just wants to stand in a river and fish.

i see an independent spirit award in his future.

and we can tie a bow on one of the worst guest star arcs in modern television history.

1.  Wife pointed out that Beth’s hooters made a brief guest appearance this time.
2.  I don’t care for the cutting horse exhibitions at all. They just don’t fit anywhere. Perhaps Taylor is writing himself in the script?  As someone else pointed out, he seems to sit well on one. Seems to make more sense if he were selling ranch-broke horses to those guys.

That would have been badass. At least Game of Thrones killed a few good people.

so i actually had no idea that was Sheridan...but i told my husband 'he's not an actor that learned to ride, he's a rider who learned to act'.

when did he learn to act?

so are we assuming costner's plan to keep the ranch relevant is to spend himself into the ground and make himself too big to gobble up?  sounds like the waystar royco playbook.

His girl said something earlier in the Episode about never seeing him happier than when we was riding. She said something to the affect, I want that jimmy. This conversation happened at a rodeo or fair type setting toward end of last season finale. He went back to the Yellowstone and entered the pen on a horse, presumably to practice (“to get back in the saddle”), Directly going against  what John told him not to do. So John had to 86 him from the Yellowstone.

It could be exile or a transfer. It’s not really clear, but yes Jimmy is gone. John’s promise to Jimmy’s grandfather probably prevented a ride on the long black train.
