4AD2 #6 Wimberley beat 3AD1 #2 Brock 35-27 last night.  Brock is now 1-2 on their 2nd annual Non-district Slate of Death, with Gunter next week.

Allen 22-9 over Martin at H; I assumed the storms have stopped it.

Shadow Creek 41 Bridgeland 24

Midland Leegacy 48 Abilene 17

Anderson 17 Austin High 14

Vandegrift 48 Midway 17  I'll call it now -- Vandy's better than last year and going back to state.

SLC 31 Cedar Hill 6

Steele 57 Hutto 27

Pflug Weiss 14 Judson 10  Rockets now 0-3.

Guyer 28 Lancaster 20

North Shore 45 Westfield 9

LH 30 HP 13   I think this was called at half by storms.

Katy 41 Tompkins 7

Canyon 32 NB 28  Cougars have won the Wurst Bowl 2 years in a row, with is probably a record for them because the all time series is something like 34-9.

Prosper 31 Rockwall 29 4th --> Rockwall rallied to win, 47-41.

College Station 60 Temple 22

LH was down double digits to Georgetown and rallied to win 45-42

Roho 38 Coronado 0

AWylie 35 LCooper 34

Laredo United 62 Seguin 59

Calallen 28 Flour Bluff 10

G-P 49-27 over Vic East.  I'll call G-P to make it to the state semis now.

PNG 26 WOS 20

Silsbee 49 Nederland 0

Prosper Walnut Grove 27 Celina 14 says 3rd, but I bet the storms killed it. Nope, and Celina rallied to win, 28-27.

Gilmer 43 Paris 40 suspended, tight one for the Buckeyes' first win.

2AD1 #1 Timpson 33 3AD2 #8 Daingerfield 26   Bussey made his season debut after a track injury.  They played him at WR, then stuck him at QB when they needed to win.

4AD2 #4 Cuero 41 3AD1 #9 Yoakum 34

Graham 45 Glen Rose 21  Tigers were a 1-year wonder.

Malakoff 42 Salado 0  I'll call Malakoff to win state.

Jim Ned 14 Wall 7

Winnsboro 21 Hooks 13

Waco Connolly 59 Yoe 38

Breck 41 Cisco 6  Loboes are 0-3.

2AD1 #2 Refugio 42 3AD2 #3 Edna 41 in OT

Poth 31 Shiner 7

Muenster 16 Windthorst 6 3rd They just started up again 11pm after a storm delay.

I felt sorry for the other team. It must have been sad for the families to sit there and see the tremendous imbalance in resources. Just the comparison size of the coaching staffs made it seem so unfair.

AISD schools are used to it.  Some of them have Westlake and LT in back to back weeks.  It is not fun to watch and I'm sure it's not fun for the players.  You root for the clock to run and kids to get out without injury.  Dripping Springs joined the district as the third school to pound away on AISD.  It's harder to get kids to participate when they know they are signing up for at least three public ass kickings per year and have little chance of making the playoffs.

It would be nice, at least from the Austin ISD perspective, to have some kind of regional relegation process instead of drawing leagues based on number of kids.  Even within the school district, LBJ would be better off playing Anderson, Akins and Austin High than playing Eastside, Northeast and Navarro.  Last year, LBJ was winning games by margins approaching 90 points at halftime.

AISD brought some of this on themselves by not updating facilities.  I marched at Burger Center in the early 1980s in state marching prelims and I was impressed by what it was at the time.  Other than adding turf and maybe a power wash, it's the same stadium today.  AISD is finally adding a turf field to all high schools, after Westlake already has four fields and a swim center.

But hey, Westlake, LT, Drip, Hays ... y'all invested in your programs with nice results.  Enjoy it ... but it would be nice for our teams to play competitive games.

Maybe Texas high school football should form what they tried to form for European soccer; a super league of the biggest and wealthiest clubs. You could group the best South and Central Texas teams, greater Houston, etc. Each week could be a playoff of sorts.

It just dawned on me that this is basically what California does.   They start out districting by enrollment, but the historically good teams get moved up and the historically bad teams get moved down.  So Akins could wind up down in 3A, playing Luling and Llano, which they have a chance at winning, which would help their participation numbers.

SA Jay says fuck your resources, they beat SA O’Connor 43-13 and improved to 3-0. OC has been down lately but that result would’ve been unimaginable even 2 years ago.

SA Burbank is also an inner city program revived, handily beating SA Brackenridge tonight to improve to 3-0. Mishak-specialist Keven Hernandez took it 98 yards to the house 1st play of the game.

PSJA North notched their 3rd straight easy win over a non-shitty 6A school, beating Laredo United South (who beat CC Flour Bluff last week) 35-0.

Damn.  I know these kids are young, but that's got to be hard on a body.  As an old, it takes me damn near a week to recover from one, 90-min soccer game.

That would suck.

Windthorst and Muenster resumed their game late, with the final matching Beau's listing above, Hornets 16, Trojans 6.  It's still better than playing again the next day to finish the 4thQ.

Jay’s HC is one of the SA area’s nicest coaches, as he’s so talkative in pre-game with officials. He’s referenced games that my crew did with his team both win/losses, but very approachable.

I’ve mentioned kids of co-workers that have played for him and he’s always appreciated that little tidbit of gratitude. Asks how they are doing and etc, as well as reached out to talk to them during the next week. Awesome person, mentor, and Coach.

I decided to watch Lampasas play on my way home from the US Open and they were playing East View from Georgetown. It was 21-14 Lampasas when I tuned in to start the 2nd quarter and that turned into 66-21 with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd after a Badger returned an INT for a TD. The back-ups played after that it seemed like. Not a real fast team as they live up to the mantra Lampasas has had since the day before forever of “We may be small, but we’re slow.” Jett Walker seems a bit out of the ordinary for them as he is a fairly tall RB with pretty good speed. He played a lot last year in his freshman year so seems like he got the Ace Whitehead on the job training treatment which was good for him instead of staying on the freshman team.

Lake Highlands / Highland Park will resume at 2 Saturday.  Lake Highlands is up 44-27 with 8:30 to play.

My senior year in HS we were playing at Boswell for their homecoming and a storm hit right at the end of the first quarter and It was 3-0 them. Storm was bad enough to knock out power and they delayed the game until Saturday night. We go back to finish the game and the final was 3-0.

I was there for that my freshman year. The other thing I remember is was Homecoming and someone had threatened to bring a gun to the game and shoot people and there were rumors the PD had snipers positioned on the roof. Some of my buddies wore white t shirts with targets drawn on the chest so that should tell you how seriously those things were taken at that point in time

I think we talked about it last year too. The insane thing was Columbine was only 4/5 moths later.

Regardless, I don't see us getting past the quarterfinals.

When do you file your first MILF report?

The TE that stepped in at QB for the alphabets apparently impressed so much that they’re gonna use Aparicio at WR part time. He’s a bigger kid with a much stronger arm than Aparicio. Good that he’s back though, Vela looms next week.

‘Member how I said Brennan graduated a ton of talent but they’ll reload? They forgot to reload.

I only saw one PSJAN game last year plus part of another, but I seriously don't remember Ale passing a single time -- I remember putting a Brock Fitzhenry comp on him.

Also trying to figure out what kind of injury (thought I read "upper body") would prevent someone from playing QB but allow him to play WR.

Supposedly some type of collarbone injury that I guess wasn’t as bad as originally thought.

@Beau Vine next week y’all have Lampasas. I assume that Wimberley has a link to their home broadcast and I would like to watch the game if possible. Lampasas, true to form, does not play a great deal of defense, but can score. They could’ve put 90 on the board against East View from Georgetown, but once they hit 66 with 7 left in the 3rd they let everyone play and wound up with 72.

I have no expectation of them beating Wimberley, but Reed Jerome is giving them far more competent play at QB than they have had the last two seasons. I believe they also have a freshman WR named Ty Johnson that caught a 66 yard TD last night against Pflugerville Connally that wound up being the game winner. He seemed to have a bit better speed and height than what Lampasas usually has.

Wimberley's one of the teams offered on Texanlive.com, and those games all seem to be on NFHSNetwork.com, too.  I think I saw another Lamp game on NFHS a couple of weeks ago.  Wimberley is better than they usually are.  Barring injuries, it'll be a big upset if anyone beats them before the state semis.

Top games tonight:

Anna @ Celina  This was #2 @ #5 in 4AD1, and neither of them looked that good IMO.  Anna blew a 14-point lead, then gave up a game tying TD on a bomb with <1:30, now OT.  Anna INT, Celina missed FG, Celina TD + 2, Anna TD + 2, both +2 in 3 OT, Celina +2 to win 42-40.

Guyer @ Prosper  The Eagles finally got 'em -- 31-28 Prosper.

Midland Leegacy @ Steele  55-25 Steele

Wagner @ SV  24-7 SV

Cuero @ Calallen  22-14 Gobblers

G-P @ Boerne  50-22 Boerne  Not surprised they won, but shocked at the margin.  It was 37-7 at half.

WConnally @ China Spring   61-41 CS

Daingerfield @ Center  28-21 Center

Edna @ Sinton  Cancelled?  Storms?

Newton @ WOS  Newton 58-54  Most points ever allowed by WOS

Jasper @ Franklin  29-14 Franklin, not that close

Brock @ Gunter  35-12 Gunter

Albany @ Hawley  27-14 Albany

Centerville @ Mart  36-21 Mart

Trinty 28 Boswell 21

Summary of the last 3 minutes game tied at 21:

Boswell drives down to Trinity 30 1st and 10. Questionable 15 yard hand to the face penalty (on the wr away from the run) takes them from 2nd and 4 to 1st and 25 out of scoring position. Drive stalls

Boswell punts downed at the 2.

Ref moves ball to the 5 for some reason

Trinity rips off a 45 yd run to midfield where THERE WAS DEFINITELY NO HOLDING

3rd and long hit a deep pass. WR is tackled at the 2 and fumbles out of the end zone. Refs ignore the touchback

Trinity scores. 28-21

Boswell RB takes a screen 60 yards down to the Trinity 8 yard line. Flag. Game over

I caught the stream of this in the 4th quarter. Did the WR fumble it out of the end zone? It looked like he fumbled it out of bounds but the angle was tough for me to see. Trinity apparently had 0 points at halftime. Crazy 2nd half.

Im biased and there was obviously no replays. Boswell had a TD taken off the board in the 1st half also. Trinity has a nice little QB when they stopped giving the ball away on offense they were unstoppable

Calallen Vs Cuero was called at half due the mother of  all thunderstorms deciding to drench us at halftime and didn’t stop until 10:15, but cloud the ground lighting was still around us along with power outages.   Cuero was ahead 22-14 and Calallen would’ve received the ball in the second half.   It was good first half for both teams with each having one turnover.
