I am going to pick Davenport to make it out of the 4A Region IV D1 bracket. That means playing Boerne. They’ll win that game as they have the better offense and a fast, but undersized  defensive front.

Boerne is “experienced” on the biggest of stages, as they lost last year in Jerry World, so we’ll see. I am biased, as both my kids are Greyhounds.

I understand that. My only bias is having watched Davenport. Their senior QB throws for 300 a game and their top two WR’s are both seniors. The connection their QB has with those two is ridiculous. They run the ball well enough with their sophomore back to be able to air it out like that. The issue Davenport will have is whether their defense can stay fresh enough. If that happens they have an outside shot to play to the last week in Arlington.

Davenport scores points in bunches and when they’re rolling it’s hard to stop them. Burnet gave a good blueprint of how to play them, but the Bulldogs did darn near everything right that night to win.

I will add, as a side note knowing both my kids went to Boerne. My time officiating TXHS FB over the last 2-3 seasons, the most abhorrent fans towards the officiating crews during sub-varsity games (9 and JV) came from both Boerne and Fredericksburg. It was literally embarrassing the two times officiating Boerne, as my kids went there!

Parents really need to sit down, watch, and cheer on their kids. Whew- it was really bad! Almost to the the point of Admins needing to escort people out of the stadium.

I thought the worst was Junior High parents throughout SA, until I experienced my own “backyard” the last couple of seasons!

Old man rant out!

How does the playoffs brackets work these days? I see my school Forney is playing a Port Arthur team tonight. Port Arthur school is traveling 4-5 hours to play a bi-district round game? This is 5A. Seems pretty shitty for them. Is this the norm now?

Region 2 is all over the place in the current alignment, you got schools from the DFW, Austin area, Houston area and East Texas in there.  It’s such a mixed bag, there are going to be a couple of teams in each bracket that are going to have to travel far in the first round.

Cedar Hill is playing at Pflugerville Weiss. Hutto is playing at Duncanville etc.

Davenport has a good thing going! I officiated the game last year at Pieper with them. We had roughly an hour and a half of a lightening/weather delay. I got so tired of going up those damn steps from the field level, back into the Pieper HS, that after like the 3rd time, I told my crew chief (white hat) that I’d just stay right here, under the bleachers. Shit we have headphones and mics to talk to each other.

Yeah. New Caney is playing in Longview now.
Willie Nelson for the Lobo pick 6!

I’m watching the Lampasas game with Uvalde. NFHS needs to let a crew do these games that actually follow whichever team is listed as home. This guy has to be doing his first solo broadcast and clearly did not prepare. He is nervous as I don’t know what.

Probably the most likely result, Burbank is just a one man show with Hernandez at QB. He’s a hell of a show though, 3,000 total yards and 36 TDs accounted for this year. He also returns kicks and plays at safety.

The last time an SAISD school won a playoff game was when Brackenridge upset Alamo Heights in 2012. Ramon Richards was a similar superman for that Brack team.

It’s 42-0 at half.

Peoples has over 200 yds, couple TDs.

Defense is swarming like somebody kicked their dog.

Hernandez got dinged up at the start of the 2nd quarter and Burbank is playing a freshman QB.

We will rematch against Flour Bluff next week, this time at our place.

Now do Canutillo vs Amarillo Palo Duro

I'm well aware of the deficiencies of panhandle and west Texas football because unlike you I actually played meaningful games. We used to wafflestomp Lubbock Monterrey and an EP team every year on our way to our 3rd round loss against SLC.

The 4th place team in a district went down to the wire with your district champion and lost by one score? Are you trying to make my point for me?

That’s the 6th time in the past 3 years a team from SA Taft’s district gets knocked out of the playoffs by a border/valley school.

Jags win 36-31. Johnson will beat LT, that offense is just going to be too explosive for the cavs to handle. Hawkins is the real deal.

Lampasas won 52-0 over Mr. Alright, Alright, Alright’s Alma mater. Lampasas pulled their starters on offense with three minutes left in the 1st half when it was 35-0. The defensive starters were out shortly after halftime as well. Nice to see a lot of back-ups and some JV guys get into a playoff game.
