DFW v. Houston in both 6A finals. To be expected, I guess

Even more specifically, it’s district 11-6A vs 21-6A.

And Duncanville’s only loss is to DeSoto and South Oak Cliff’s two losses are to Duncanville and DeSoto. They’ve only lost to each other.

Question about something I’ve never noticed before. When 2nd or 4th quarters start does the clock begin on a whistle or first snap of the quarter?

Game clock begins on the snap. Play clock starts of the Ready for play (white hat).

I’m assuming you mean Bally Sports (unless the North Shore QB is on a contract???) then I think it’ll be gone next year as Ballys Sports is likely to cease operation in the spring.  TexanLive/NFHS/DCTF broadcasting the state games may be kinda weak.

The Brownsville guy should get the contract

Space City Sports should grab every playoff game in NRG. I believe they carried a Thursday night game throughout the season.

I doubt we see we see a statewide cable or cable adjacent option. TexanLive seems to have the broadcast rights sewn up.

I’ll enjoy the state championships on Balley’s this year because this could be it.

That’s exactly what I thought but never really paid attention before. Friday night the game clock definitely started on the whistle to start the play clock.

I just don’t think there are enough viewers for advertisers to pay for the production costs of even a Bally Sports level broadcast.  You gotta have fat stacks.  Especially when you can’t advertise alcohol, guns, blackjack and hookers.

40 games in the Regional rounds...on TV.  Next you're gonna advocate for mega stadiums and a roof on every game, right?

Leave em be.  Go to the games you want to see. Don't college up our high school football.

TexanLive is $11.99 a month. It might be worth it for the month of December. If Texas hadn’t been busy with winning the Big 12 I would have pulled the trigger to watch the LT-Westlake game.

That said, I think it’s reasonable to expect the state title games on a widely accessible platform. And don’t give me this go to the games bullshit. If they really were serious about attendance they would rotate the state title games at Jerryworld and NRG.

I think the Bally/FoxSports SW contract is the glue that held the championships being held at a central location for the last 10 years or so with the every year of that being at Jerryworld minus one when they held them at NRG.    I wonder if Bally’s future puts this at risk?

I wouldn’t mind if this ends and the UIL is  then forced to consider other venues.   Or we go back to where the coaches pick the site for each game. It’s  BS the DFW area schools year in and year out get home field advantage and they are almost assured to have at least one rep in virtually every class because three of the regions  can line up close to the area.  Let Aledo, De Soto and Duncanville travel down to San Antonio and spend their taxpayers money instead of always allowing them the luxury of staying home .

Fully agree. I’ve been saying this for years. And I live in DFW.  Arlington is hardly centrally located in Texas. Rotate it across DFW, Houston, and maybe San Antonio.  All have domes. For some reason this triggers some people on this forum but I’m not sure how anybody can objectively argue for having it in one place every year that’s not centrally located. Not fair to the kids or their families and supporters.

Didn't they move it to Houston years back and the attendance numbers were way down?

Yep. Houston attendance sucked, and also, NRG stadium charges way more to host the games than Jerryworld does. Everyone makes it out to be some grand conspiracy, but it’s no secret that the schools and the UIL make way more money hosting the games in Arlington. That’s why they’re there.

Agreed. I know the original setup was going to be what he talked about, rotating through Arlington, Houston, SA. But they tried and it failed. Also, aren't more teams who routinely make state closer to the DFW area than Houston? I thought I read this. I don't ever see it leaving Jerry World at this point.

Difference in Fox Sports SW and Bally, is one was easy accessible. Fox Sports SW was apart of pretty much every streaming/cable/satellite package. It was awesome. Bally comes along and it's now only apart of what, DirecTV Stream and maybe Spectrum? Not apart of YoutubeTV and others. So on top of all the other stream/cable/satellite people subscribe to, they are now told they need to subscribe to Bally to be able to watch what was used to be included. I never saw any people complain about Fox Sports SW because it allowed everyone to view it with ease.

i think the texas coaches association runs the football championship week / events. They have a huge say in it vs other sports with the uil

all the uil championships should be rotated around the state

I never liked Bally. Are you a casino? A treadmill manufacturer? An arcade company? Pick a lane and fuck off.

Oh yeah, Bally Total Fitness.  There were also some great Bally Pinball Tables.

I think that Diamond Sport Media just sold the naming rights

The THSCA also overwhelmingly wants it at Jerryworld every year.

The only people who disagree post on here, and never go to the games anyways.

I believe you know this, but if you ever want to get someone in “Sunny South Dallas” angry refer to Oak Cliff and the southern suburbs as South Dallas. That neighborhood is really protective of their identity based on that name.

Aside from that I mean that trio right there is ridiculously impressive. One of my friends that coaches told me he had a chance to go back to his alma mater of SOC to coach football, but he chose to not go home because he was given a different coaching job he wanted on the hardwood (That was then rescinded because the school he was at would not approve of him leaving). I told him to perhaps reconsider this spring a return to The Mecca. He told me he did not attend either of the state title games, but he is thinking of going to this one. Once he left SOC  after graduation in 1990 he only contemplated one return and it was for basketball when James Mays wanted to add him to the staff.

Nothing against Albany, but I will root for the hometown of the great young actor Jesse Plemons in this one. Also I always liked it when Mart’s head coach was Rusty Nail. What a name.

Yep for sure. This should probably say 'Southern Dallas' or 'Southern Dallas County'. South Dallas for me refers to the MLK/Malcom X/Hatcher area. Where Madison and Lincoln are. True South Dallas is a pretty small area.

And even inside Oak Cliff and even Pleasant Grove, the borders are always argued upon as to what exactly they are. Each was its own city with well defined borders back in the day (I think). And since then, they have since expanded to where almost all of Southeast Dallas is considered PG and Southwest Dallas is just Oak Cliff. But of all of that is the southern part of Dallas.

Haha! Yep. He is old school Oak Cliff when it was totally different than it is now. His borders as to what he considers Oak Cliff will be much smaller than what it has grown into now.

Fun stories from the years I spent going over to TGJM and seeing so many Lincoln-Madison games in basketball and football. My first Madison-Lincoln sporting event was in 2000 when Madison beat a Lincoln team that had Bosh on it. Some teammates from the football team at school graduated from there so we went up to see the game at LOOS in North Dallas. He almost gave up a windmill dunk 5 seconds after the opening tip, but he intentionally fouled a guy 5 inches shorter so it would not happen.

Back when I still used to drink I would spend the summers right down the street (believe the house was on Pennsylvania or the next street over) from Madison at a house where the entire Flentroy family drank and ate BBQ every single weekend. If you remember 2009-10 it was the Flentroy boys in basketball that got them a basketball title and runner up the next year. That family basically adopted me and started calling me a Flentroy…I could not drink as much as them so maybe not quite a full family member…😂

I think my friend’s dad graduated from Carter a year after Rhyner left Kimball. Totally different world. It would be cool if my friend’s dad were still. Alive so I could hear stories about Carter back then.

Yep I remember the Flentroy brothers. I was about 6 years out of high school by then but still kept up with it.

https://www.dallasnews.com/high-school-sports/basketball/2010/01/12/hs-gametime-s-boys-basketball-player-of-the-week-desmond-flentroy/

I always heard stories about how intense Madison/Lincoln basketball games were. On the court and in the stands and outside the venue.

When I was at Forney when they were the original 3A, Madison and Pinkston were both in our district. Neither had very many every show up when they came to Forney. Although Pinkston is a West Dallas school.
