A waiter there told me to go try El Hidalguense on Longpoint. Haven’t had the chance yet. Anyone been there?

I go about once a quarter.  I like it but it isn’t Teo good.  however it’s more convenient for me as I ride my bike up and down long point for lunch.   Not Tex mex, more gente

Don Carlos on 76th, deep in the 2nd ward hood. $14, 3 cheese enchiladas. Don’t be shocked if a dj is rocking the place. Excellent bar

My dad loves this place. I usually get the carne guisada plate with queso flameado con chorizo as an app, but those enchiladas look great. Think I'll get that next time.

Decided to hit up El Palenque (Louetta and 249) for the first time in 20 years. Had enchiladas. It was rather average.

the palenque grill at la cantera San Antonio isn’t bad at all. I’d never get the enchiladas though

I need to go give Soto’s another try. Been there a couple of times and just wasn’t that impressed. My usual measuring sticks are Teotihuacan and Lopez.

Yesterday I tried La Lupita off Pinemont. It was pretty solid. The barbacoa wasn’t as good as Gerardo’s but it was still good. I have also had better Al Pastor, but again, was still good. The choriqueso was greasy and awesome.

Taco de bistec, Al Pastor, barbacoa:

If you find yourself in Jacinto City, the tacos at Chicharrones El Güero are good. Barbacoa was solid. Carnitas needed more salt. Salsas were good.

I’ve been warned that Mi Sombereo is a one entree restaurant. Tommy’s Tacos or don’t bother, but the olds seemed to be enjoying their breakfasts.

Worth it for Tommy’s tacos though, those things are so damn good.

Staggered over to Tacos El Bigotes yesterday.  Got three quesabirria and a trompo all the way.   Very tasty.   It was very crowded.  The guy making the birria tacos was pumping them out quick.  The corn tortilla could have been crisper and the cheese spilling out at the edges needed to be carmelized a bit more.  Maybe at a slower hour  the tacos could have had  a chance to set up right.   Anyhow, it was good.

i came across a newsfeed article about a place off jones or west road - jersey village/cyfair area.  can anyone think of a place out that way that would be worthy of writing an article about them?  may have been about barbacoa, may have been about menudo.   there was something that stood out there.  i meant to save but seems lost forever now.

Finally got around to hauling the family over to try Candente. Everything was great but I was told the brisket enchiladas were cant miss and...they missed. Brisket was ok, too dry. The bbq sauce on top was wayyyyy too sweet for the dish. Just didnt work for me. Wife got the carnitas and they were great. The red salsa was very good, the green was damn good. Margaritas were good. Queso was really good. I'll go back.

Get the ribeye fajitas next time. They’re my favorite thing on the menu.

Hiway Cantina sucked

Went there recently before an Astros game and I thought the food was pretty meh, middle of the road TexMex. Nothing at all to go out of the way for. The kick to the nuts was how expensive it was for the quality you’re getting. We were there pregame before a Friday night Astros game and there were maybe three other tables in occupied in the restaurant. I don’t see how it makes it. I’m really surprised that the Agricole guys can’t make something work in that space.

El Tiempo just opened in the old Rangers stadium in Arlington. Is it good?

their fajita nachos at minute maid park are easily the best buy in the stadium. strong margaritas

Sure. How do you feel about a reverse mortgage to cover a meal there for a family of 5?

I looked at the menu. Fuck me I thought Mi Cocina was crazy expensive. $25 for one enchilada, a tamale, and a taco. Nope.

La Guadalupana is a head scratcher. It’s primarily a breakfast place and they’ve got a couple of very basic breakfast items on their menu, but in the dozens of times I’ve eaten there I couldn’t recall seeing any other tacos on their menu. I looked it up and the only tacos besides the aforementioned breakfast tacos on their menu is a tacos carbon plate. Not exactly a plethora of options.

Yup. I kind of wonder if it’s a typo by the poster and the actual restaurant is Taqueria La Guadalupana.
