I'm not sure Ted McGinley is cut out for this dramatic arc. He was perfect early on, as a randomly funny background character who couldn't be fazed by anything, and that worked for the dynamic of the show. His and Liz's relationship was just a funny, quirky element of the show that made it special, but once he started getting out of his one-note performance, it became less believable to me. I don't love the direction they're going with her infidelity. It's getting too deep and dark for the show to maintain and I don't want it going south like S3 of Lasso.

Being a newish parent myself. This episode taught me a lot.

Care to elaborate?

I mentioned upthread that I’m getting close to hate watching this show, and while that diminished in the last couple of weeks, I think it’s due mostly to declining expectations.  I was watching Segel in the first scene of this week’s episode thinking “if the camera wasn’t in close up and the lighting was worse, add a laugh track and this is a sitcom”.

The fact I can’t stand sitcoms but love Ted  Lasso probably speaks more to the recognition by the production team that shooting a sitcom like a drama seems to work better in the 2020’s.  Here it seems to be trying too hard.

Holy shit, Harrison Ford killed that speech about what he was thankful for.

Yeah, that was pretty fucking spectacular. Very strong second season IMO.

Late to Season 2, and have a couple episodes to go, so not reading upthread for spoilers.

The comment about the storylines seeming contrived isn't unfair.  It is schmaltzy at times, and has a bit of a Ted Lasso feel where there's some sort of positive life lesson in each episode.  But it still does a great job at hitting the emotions, and the performances and comedic timing of the actors are excellent.  I really don't mind watching a show where all the characters are likeable in some way, everyone finds redemption along the way, and there are mostly happy endings.  I get my fill of dark shit (e.g., looking forward to Season 3 of White Lotus, where most of the characters are pretty shitty and there are no real happy endings).

And this may be bold, but I think Shrinking is one of Harrison Ford's best acting performances ever.  I've always been a fan, but he has for the most part played some form of a hero with not a wide acting range (with some exceptions, of course, like the unexpected villain in What Lies Beneath).  And while his action characters like Indian Jones and Han Solo deliver some deadpan funny lines, he's never really ventured much in the comedy realm as far as I can remember.  But he's nailing this role without being over the top, and it hasn't gotten tired.  If this is his swan song, it's a perfect one.

I love Derek.

Same.  Hadn't really kept up with him since his role as Stan Gable in Revenge of the Nerds (one of my favorite movies growing up), and am glad to see he landed a great supporting part in such a fantastic show later in life.

I'm still watching but it's diluted Ted Lasso.  At least for me, Ted Lasso (the show and the character) seemed so much more sincere.  Maybe it was just a little easier to suspend disbelief because of the inherent weirdness of the setting (American in the UK, a football coach coaching soccer) and that made it a little easier to digest the ridiculous.

He was pretty good in Regarding Henry.
