Wife and I fuckin loved this show.  Sad we just finished it.  Take some gummies, laugh at the clever humor and stay invested in all the characters through their trials…kinda the opposite of Yellowstones trajectory.

Harrison Ford especially was written to play to his strengths, but everyone is believable with people like Liz’s husband a standout.  Hopefully the magic doesn’t taper off ala Ted Lasso in S2.

Watching the show now.  Halfway through.  I like everyone but Jimmy. Unlikeable.  He's a shit dad.  Your daughter is a fuckin mess.  Maybe don't go play pickleball when she's reaching out.

I know I'm in the minority. My wife loves it but for me it's just meh.

The main story line is Jimmy lost his wife/partner in a shocking way and he’s been lost in the wilderness since then. It’s affected every aspect of his life, mostly in a negative way. But the entire first season is about him starting to flip the script and try to figure out to go on without her.

Nearly every character has something unlikeable about them or has a blindspot that keeps making them do stupid things... the cause and effect of all these decisons is kind of what makes this show fun for me.

This show is kind of the intellectuals version of Eastbound and Down.

How did I miss this thread last season?  I love this show…much prefer smart, dialog driven, tight ~30m stories with distinctive characters that play their part well.  Give me a five minute chat between Tyrian and Queen of Thorns over any hour long CGI circle jerk.

Am glad to see this season sticking to that formula with some new twists while still allowing Ford an out that doesn’t feel contrived and would let the core continue.  Curious to see if Goldstein’s acting chops have another gear, and I think we all identify with Derek a little too much meaning he does a good job.

Wife still throws in ‘safe dick is the best dick’ into conversation lol.

Started this one up based on this thread. Digging it thus far.

Liz's plastic surgeonized face is fairly distracting tho

It's an f'ing tragedy. I wish someone would step in for these women who want to get this type of plastic surgery. It really seems like it actually makes it harder for her to talk most times.

I actually think she’s had good work done.  She doesn’t look like cat ladies I see and looks older but smoothed out.  Caveat, I’ve never seen her in anything else so I don’t have that picture of youth in the back of my mind.

Personally I’m more distracted that everyone has zero money concerns and can leave their doors and windows open without mosquitos getting in.

I don't think they have those in SoCal.

Also.

Not sure if this is a known thing.

but I hit the back button twice to rewind.

and it says “ subtitles on for 20 seconds “

and. Woah. They came on for 20 seconds.

this a game changer I never knew I needed

most of the time when I rewind it’s cuz I missed something, or needed to make sure I didn’t mishear something. And I put subtitles on.

a drag that I have to do a bunch of clicking to get them on then turn them off. Yada yada

ok, I’m done. Thanks for reading or not.

This week’s episode with a great open and “is it Wednesday yet?” close out.

Paul’s character with a few ‘show don’t tell’ clues about his condition before the big chat with Jimmy…mad respect for presentations that make an effort in that regard even if I’m sad “I have a big ego” is being foreshadowed out

Casting is so good all around…Brian with a couple scene stealers, Derek with The Special, Abby’s new dude fits in well as the Straight Man, etc.

Great episode.

I never watched that show. She was also on Scrubs, hence why she's on Shrinking (both shows run by her husband Bill Lawrence).

She was also on the cover for the first issue of Maxim.

She had two different roles in Seinfeld.

I actually think she looks better in this season of Shrinking, compared to last season.  Not nearly as much cheek filler.

I’m starting to hate watch this show more than enjoy it.  Too much contrivance to have this group of people so frequently ping pong into each lives.  It worked for Lasso because they all were in the same org-it doesn’t work when Liz just happens to run into Paul or then meets up with him intentionally later and has skittles.  You can’t do dramedy if everything feels like bullshit, there are no stakes.

Also, and maybe this is just me, but did someone tell the actor that plays Brian to be a mimic of Sean Hayes?  If I was gay I’d be pretty irritated that too much of my representation is dependent on the stereotype of gay men as overly emotional and somewhat shallow.   And when did Brian become so close to Gabby that he drops by unannounced for advice, and she’s home in the middle of the day without work to do?  Jesus, I should live in socal.

just suspend some disbelief.

Anyway,

Spoiler

I was pretty gutted for Derek. He didn't deserve that.

To your point about stakes

Spoiler

I'll be disappointed if there aren't real consequences for Liz

Agreed. I could see that being the big reveal at the end that sets Jimmy back again. Really enjoying this show and its take on grief and overcoming loss.

And yes, the GF was really enjoyable to look at on Bad Monkey, as was the coroner lady.
