Grammys

Point proven.

I will never, ever fuck up a music thread just to tell people how much I hate said thread. Not once.

CORRECTION:

This is a TV thread in the music section.

And this TV show had some atrocious music playing on it.

I wish that they would announce the average age of each Category’s Nominators as well the average age of the Grammy Voters when announcing the nominees and the winners of each award.

I heard a song by “Laufey”  on December 11th on KXT 91.7 FM in Dallas and really liked the song.

I ended up looking her up on Wikipedia and discovered that she had already won a Grammy.

Then I looked up what category she won for and who her fellow nominees were…

😂

While she was in her mid 20s, another nominee was in their 30s. After that, the other nominees were 68 years-old or older.

The category was something like “Contemporary Music” or something.

The Grammys are chosen BY old people who have delusions of having their finger on the pulse of the music scene.

The olds on this site have more of a right to bitch about shitty music than anyone, because they mirror The Recording Academy members.

I think it’s reasonable for someone who likes music to tune into the biggest music awards show.

Every time I do I get reminded of how much I’m not the target market for the popular music of today. Such is life I guess.

One think I know for sure though is that Beyoncé record was not the best country record of the year.

I use to vote on the Grammys, I was a member for 20 years. I quit in 2012. When you vote you are allowed to vote in 9 categories that you know most about, plus Album, Song and Best New Artist of the the year. I found it to be a popularity contest not necessarily the most deserving. Of course that was probably based on my own taste.

Not a soul made any of you watch it. Remote controls work exceedingly well in 2025.

My wife made me.

I appreciate all music, had a hard time last night. The blond girl will be never heard of again for her music, maybe in acting? Chappel Roan has a nice voice, the hot to go song is like ice picks in the ears.

Sabrina Carpenter has been acting for more than a dozen years already.

No one “made me”, so I didn’t watch most of it. But…

My mom has a big birthday this week, my father has passed away, my sister is in town this week for my mom, my brother is a music addiction and had the remote control, and there was only so much time I could spend in the kitchen or another room with the door closed while the rest of my mother’s nuclear family sat with her and watched the bad TV show.

Look I love 1960s music. I am a huge Beatles fan, I love all their stuff. Loved 'Now and Then' I listened the shit out of it back in 2023 and listen to it whenever I am in a Beatles sort of mood. Saw Ringo when he came through Austin last year. I listened to his country album he just released and I will listen to whatever McCartney is going to release this year. Love those guys.

But come on Grammys. This is getting kind of embarrassing. The Beatles already have tons of Grammys. Ringo lives in LA and doesn't even bother to show up. They just send Sean Lennon to pick it up for them like they did for the Grammy for the "I'm Only Sleeping" video last year.

Is Rock Music so dead that there are no current bands actually making music with all their members still alive to give Grammys to?

ok, that makes sense.  Never saw or heard of her until last night.

She was huge last year. I kept hearing about her and kept meaning to check out her stuff at some point. But never got around to it.

I only learned about her existence last October or so when YouTube recommended a video of hers.

I don’t have kids and am not a pedophile, so she never crossed my radar.

I hear the Beatles actually won a grammy. For the worst single they ever released.

Does that speak to the quality of today's biggest hits?

Like many of the other awards handed out, it's an indictment of the voting base, not the music. There is plenty of good music these days.

How dare you! But I basically agree. Back to back Grammys for a band that hasn't played together since 1969? In 2024 and 2025?

Even as a 'Now and Then' enjoyer and Beatles fanatic that is embarrassing.

Was coming here to post this.

Crotchety old man who didn’t have to watch the show, but did anyway… and then made a video about it!

I’m a fan of Lisa Loeb’s. She is a really nice person and is a hard worker, no pre-Madonna[sic] issues and tried to get her to work on a Barbie animation project when I was at Mattel, but when the Mattel producer was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through chemo, everything went to shit.

Anyway, Lisa won a Grammy a few years ago (actually the year after I tried to get her on the Barbie project)… for Best Children’s Album.

She does write great songs for kids, but Incouldnt help thinking that she won that Grammy because she knew so many people and was so well liked (and lights the menorah) that the Recording Academy kind of made it happen.

Answer: NO

It absolutely speaks to today’s nominators and voters.

There really should be an Over 50 (or 55 or 60) category and then an Open category. If you are in the “Over” section, but your shit is so good that it can truly be nominated by the younger nominators, then bully for you. But the Stones and the Beatles winning shit is a joke, as Ricky B clearly stated in the video above.
