Pulled this off the shelf and will be re-reading it this afternoon:

That was a good one. This one wasn't quite as good but still worth a read (https://www.amazon.com/Impossible-Takes-Little-Longer-Pretenders/dp/0878336303).

Haven't been active in this thread since a couple boards and a decade ago but it's super cool to see this group of people enjoying redemption. It's been the same with all the Twitter friends from way back then who I still follow.

You boys sat through Oddibie McDowell and Jeff Kunkel and still showed up! Well deserved boys! Bravo, fans and Rangers!

I still cannot believe that Monty Fariss didn't have a HoF career...

None of it ultimately mattered ...

Another way to think of it is.... maybe it did matter because it hardened us to adversity and the next man up mentality. What a team we have.

Coincidence or nah? https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10095863-nelson-cruz-retires-from-mlb-after-19-seasons-won-2011-alcs-mvp-with-rangers

Quote

Nelson Cruz is hanging up his cleats.

The veteran slugger announced Thursday on the Adam Jones Podcast that he is officially retiring from Major League Baseball after 19 seasons.

Cruz told Jones he would be playing this winter in the Dominican Professional Baseball League in what will be a farewell tour for the slugger. He intends to play one game for the Gigantes del Cibao at each of LIDOM's six ballparks this month, per MLB.com's Nathalie Alonso.

"So this is the last we're seeing of Nelson Cruz?" Jones asked.

Cruz responded: "I think so, yeah."

Over the last few seasons of his career, Cruz's play had declined. While he joined the San Diego Padres for the 2023 campaign, the club ultimately released him after he appeared in just 49 games.

Still, the 43-year-old had a phenomenal 19-year MLB career that spanned 2005-2023. He primarily played for the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, but he also suited up for the Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers in that span.

Cruz is one of the most prolific power bats in baseball history, having slashed .274/.343/.513 with 464 home runs and 1,325 RBI in 2,055 games across 19 seasons. His 464 blasts rank 37th on MLB's all-time home run list.

Although he never won a World Series title, Cruz was a seven-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger and the 2011 American League Championship Series MVP. In 50 playoff games during his career, he slashed .278/.348/.631 with 18 home runs and 38 RBI.

Cruz put together one of the best seasons of his career with the Mariners in 2015, slashing .302/.369/.566 with 44 home runs and 93 RBI in 152 games. He finished sixth in AL MVP voting that season, earned an All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger award.

Now that Cruz is officially retired, his Hall of Fame candidacy will surely be explored.

I got mine at Tom Thumb.  Grocery stores will have tons of them.  There's 3 different versions.  I'm a sucker and bought all 3.

Went to 5 different places to get all three!

So I'm getting like zero work done today. I just flipped on MLB Network and they're replaying Game 5. It's a full broadcast but it's not Fox's. Was MLB Network simulcasting this? Are you telling me I could've watched this World Series without John Smoltz? Or was MLB covering the game with their announcing crew recording it for later showings after the live broadcast ended?

MISL and tatú, homey.

I was at Game 6 against Tacoma, solely because the Mavs choked in the first round and I felt the need to be in Reunion Arena.   Still one of the funnest sporting events I've ever attended.

11 straight postseason road victories.

We had 99 road innings, and a bitch-ass opponent lead was (barely) one.

= = =

Just how dominating were they on the road, besides the obvious 11 wins?

Unless I missed something, the Rangers trailed in this postseason in those road games for only as long as they came up to bat again:

  • At Baltimore Game 2, the Orioles scored 2 in the bottom of the 1st. Texas scored 5 in the top of the 2nd -- and then another 4 in the top of the 3rd just to crush their souls.

  • In the ALCS Game 6, Houston scored once in the bottom of 1st. The Rangers "answered back" (ohhh) with 1 in the top of the 2nd and held that until the 4th.

And the rest was postseason road domination history.

= = =

So the total attendance of the 11 Rangers road games was 449,176 (would've been more, but you know, Tampa).

Now of course there were some Rangers fans mixed in there, so let's just say 85% all road games were home fans, so it comes to 381,799.

Not a single one of them of course saw their team win a game in person.

A low percentage of that total even saw their team have a lead.

And the home fans who were late to ALDS Game 2 or ALCS Game 6 probably missed any lead completely.

D - Diamondbacks

Your first post on this entire website was 10/22. And you wanted to move our very best hitter down

No one respects you.

So?

I’m interested in moving Corey to 3.  Of course. Semien is an ideal 2 hitter and Adolis 4 and Jung 5. You know, VERY logical thoughts.

I’m not looking for respect. Congrats buddy, on being such a respected valued anonymous internet poster. Validation of a life’s work.

Still can't get over how the Rangers took out Tampa Bay, the Orioles and the Astros, and then hammered the team that beat the Brewers, Dodgers and Phillies.  Just a phenomenal streak of games to win it all.  No easy path--just destroyed.

So this baseball I have signed by several members of the 1983 Rangers is now super valuable right?

It’s never been more valuable than right now, I suppose.

Backs up what I thought, he called a really good game.

Said the same to my wife last night. Really well called strike zone. The Sborz to Perdomo was the only one that I really noticed.
