I'm late to the Mitski bandwagon. Better late than never, I suppose. I kinda hear her as somewhere between Bjork and Norah Jones.

So, I mentioned earlier that I'd used an LLM to try to generate a playlist that the standard algorithms wouldn't, to try and find some new music.

Among the discoveries is this modern darkwave outfit, Drab Majesty. If you're into e.g. New Order and the like, here's something new and good for you.

Make sure you get at least as far as the refrain before you give up on it. That's when the chord progression goes nova.

I'm hooked.

Sounds like something we would have heard at Hall’s in 1986

Right? These guys are 30 years late for their calling. Whole discography is like this. But some good harmony/chord progressions... I'm digging it.

I don't listen to much hiphop, so I didn't ever hear that OutKast tune, since my dumb ass didn't know about them until Stankonia. pos rep

It was actually the first Outkast song I ever heard, when I was at College of Charleston. My buddy had a burned CD with it on it. Being down Souf we heard a lot of the Atlanta stuff before it really penetrated the rest of the country unless you were really into underground hip hop.

ETA you should check out the Aquemini album too, it has Rosa Parks on it

I looked for an amateur music thread and couldn't find one and didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm posting this here, because this is what I'm listening to right now. I recently let Suno AI cover a bunch of songs I have written over the years and there were a few that I liked enough to publish. Here's a link to my "album" on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L-EIgAPjpc&list=OLAK5uy_mSLHQH6NwdhgxChSOO1mTGGoExZOESANg

It was truly unbelievable how easy it was to get Suno to take my extremely rough demo recordings made on my iPhone memo app and get them somewhat close to a finished product resembling the vision I had for them.

I'm not taking myself too seriously on this shit. This post is about the full extent of any effort I am making to "promote" it, and I have no expectations whatsoever for the songs, don't expect to play any shows anytime soon, and am bracing for negativity, but fuck it. I just like the idea that my songs are out there for people to listen to if they're interested.

So I have a thumb drive of a couple hundred mp3s collected back when that was a thing. I'll dial up a few faves from it from time to time.

I let it play on to Kiss With A Fist by Florence + The Machine. That one really slaps, as they say, and appealed to my punk sensibilities. Then there was Dog Days, which I liked pretty well at the time. Something else I disremember got some airplay, too, but I was less fond of it.

Whatever happened to them/her? Worth following up on?

Still out there. She may have done a solo thing, that seems vaguely familiar. Personally, I much prefer Wet Leg in that Brit-indie-chick-pop genre. I never really got Florence, but I won't deny that she has talent.

i love that so many of my favorite metal bands have only gotten better with age

Well, tonight I saw yet another band that got by me the first time. TV On The Radio played Kimmel's traveling show in Brooklyn. I really like this song -- is this album Return To Cookie Mountain the best place to start?

I like that. Apparently she's dating Yungblud.

That is AWESOME! It's like Lou Reed joined They Might Be Giants. Now I'm going to find a rabbit hole . . . errr . . .

The way she moved on stage, he’s a very fortunate young man.

She’s also Cher’s Goddaughter I’m told by my daughters.
