(just finished after falling asleep last night now sitting in Dulles)

What an amazing race but you do not want to lead in these cars coming out of turn 2 on the final lap

(I trust Monaco was boring as shit haven't watched that yet and didn't get spoilers weirdly)

  • elfenix changed the title to Indycar 2024 - Streets of Detroit Sunday June 2, 11:45 am green flag

Indycar back to the streets of Detroit for the second year.  Big news this weekend is Blomqvist is out at MSR for at least the next two races, with Helio taking the seat.  Theo Pourchaire is back in the McLaren after sitting out the 500 in favor of Callum Ilott.

Despite a lengthy press release being issued featuring quotes from team co-owner Mike Shank and Blomqvist, no reason for the dropping has been given, although it comes in the wake of a tough Brickyard event, and with Blomqvist 24th in the points compared to Felix Rosenqvist being in the top 10.

"It is fair to say that the last couple of days have been some of the hardest in my career,” said Blomqvist in the team’s announcement, which confirms he’ll miss Detroit this weekend and Road America the following week.

Wtf is happening at Juncos Hollinger?

TLDR: Theo Pourchaire ran into Canapino at Detroit, apologized after the race, started getting death threats online from Canapino's fans, McLaren and JHR (JHR was in a partnership with McLaren) put out a joint statement condemning the threats, Canapino says "what threats" and then his social media account starts liking some of the threats, McLaren axes the relationship with JHR, and now Brad Hollinger says Canapino is taking a leave of absence.

STLDR: Canapino and his fans are dicks costing his employer money and he's getting sidelined

Great spot you have there, is this right after turn 3? I'd love to make it up there some time.

Good eye! Yeah, about 2/3 from T3 to the Sargento Bridge.

It's an absolute gem of a facility, and they have put in nice new amenities every off-season for the past 5ish years.

Rent a golf cart if you aren't bringing your own mopeds or whatever - really opens up your options and flexibility.

indycar signs with fox, gets all races on fox broadcast, with all practices on fs1 or fs2, and even some indycar nxt on fs1 or fs2.  at least we won't have to guess which channel it's on each weekend

Penske Entertainment just delivered a grand slam with its new all-network TV deal with FOX.

The win is a major one for Roger Penske — his biggest to date with the series he purchased four and a half years ago – and the executives who negotiated the deal with FOX. Most importantly, it’s a massive victory for IndyCar teams, which has been sorely needed.

“It’s a great deal for the for the teams, great deal for Penske Entertainment, a great deal for the sport, and it’s the best deal for the fans,” Chip Ganassi told RACER.

In taking the NTT IndyCar Series to its first all-network broadcast deal in generations, Penske has given its paddock a major boost in revenue potential. And at a crucial time.

Not sure McLaren wants him anymore since he backed out of that deal to stay with Ganassi. Certainly didn't seem like Palou wanted them.

Palou could do better in F1 than Sargeant, Stroll, and probably a couple others.

Most likely Indy driver to make it to F1 is Herta in an Andretti car, but Palou and O'Ward are also F1 contenders.

no, i mean when he wanted to go there, before he realized the F1 team was jammed and he wouldn't get a real shot at a ride. meanwhile he can count rings at ganassi.

Gonna go out on a limb here but Palou is clearly the best driver in Indycar. Shame McLaren's F1 team is jammed.

Yeah, he’s clearly ahead of everyone else. He’s got a great shot at winning 3 IndyCar titles in 4 years, which is absolutely absurd in a spec series. It would have been fun to see him get a shot in F1, but Piastri going to McLaren ended that. At this point, he should probably just stay in IndyCar and become the best driver ever in that series, unless a top F1 team with a chance at a title comes calling.

Logan Sargent to join Prema’s IndyCar team next year. This seems like a win for everyone. Logan wasn’t ready for F1, but he has talent and could definitely develop into a good driver. I’d love to see Pourchaire get picked up by Prema too after he was done dirty by McLaren.

Hybrid status in the telemetry is pretty interesting. Wonder how long before they axe it because someone on pit wall may be able to tell their driver that the car ahead is out, so deploy and push to pass now.

iowa went from a tire eater to fuel limited with the new firestones and maybe the partial repave helped.  races mostly uneventful with the 2nd race being pretty boring until after the checker had flown and then:

aeroscreen saved two or three drivers from some pretty horrible injuries yesterday
