The SEC mid-November cupcake games are weak-ass shit and need to go away.

Yeah, why was Florida on our schedule?!?!? It should have been a good team like SMU.

I’m not complaining, but Texas at piggy is a much better game than LSU at Florida. It’s the trappiest if trap game, so I’m happy to get them in the morning.

Arky got two weeks to prepare for us. Didn't their starting QB go down against Ole Miss?

SEC final the three talking heads ranked top five only one had A&M on their list at #5….  Texas #1 in two and #2 in the other. Doesn’t matter games have to be played but most think of the top 5, A&M most likely to be left out.

Seems like SEC might end up with a valid argument for 5 teams in CFP playoffs.

Horns might need to win out to secure a place in the CFP.  Two losses won't guarantee a CFP invite...

My concern is that if Texas loses to Arky or Kentucky, it’s a bad loss; whereas if we lose to A&M, Texas ends up with no ranked wins. There aren’t many scenarios where a two-loss Texas has a clearly better résumé than some other two-loss SEC teams.

Nevertheless, Tennessee and UGA play, so UGA could drop to three losses. Also, Texas being ranked #3 on Tuesday will help from an anchoring standpoint. Even with another loss, Texas may not fall far unless it’s a really bad outcome. The issue will be if Texas has two losses and is tied with (and behind a one-loss team) four other teams (Tennessee/UGA, A&M, Ole Miss, and Bama). It’s gets murky, because all four arguably do have better wins than Texas.

TL;DR: just fucking win out.

cupcakes to pad your record in November. We need a 9-game league schedule yesterday. Fuck the unnecessary SEC Championship game.

Makes the most sense

2 divisions however you want to split it.

play the other 7 teams in your division home and away.  Play 2 from the other division home and away and rotate through(like we used to do similar in the Big 12).

sure it’ll take a while to work through all the other division. But it makes much more sense this this “draw a team out a hat” crap.

Heck even if you did pods you could do exactly like the nfl. Play the 3 in your pod.  4 from another pod. And the team that finished the same spot as you from the other 2 pods(might never see some teams that way but oh well).

I like the no divisions, 3 protected rivalries (0u, aggy, and pig), and home & homes with errbody every 4 years plan.

That’s not bad either.  So there would be 3 constants.  And 6 other teams for a 9 conference game schedule.

Leaving 6 we don’t play until every 3rd/4th years basically rotating through the entire conference every 4 years.  that works really good too. Basically the POD set up. Without the NFL type seeding schedule.

Similar, but the 3 perma-rivals don't have to be the same for everyone, so not a full pod set-up.  No need for A&M to play OU and Arkansas every year just because those are our historical rivals, instead the ags' three could be Texas, LSU, and Miss State or somebody.  OU could have Texas, Missouri, and Florida.  LSU could have A&M, Ole Miss, and Alabama.

And then you do home/away with 6 for two years, and switch to the other 6 for this next 2 years.

Some folks were referring to this setup as 3+6+6.

Ah I see. That’s interesting.  And still MUCH bette than what they’re doing now.

Can’t have people saying we paid off folks for our schedule.

Somehow, you've forgotten about the aggy vs USCe rivalry for the prestigious (made-up) Bonham Trophy

Kentucky is the most schizo team this year.  they seem to have a good defense, play Georgia to almost a draw, but then they give up 48 to a not good Florida team.

I'm probably a little more concerned about them at home than Arky especially the week before aggy.  the O seems not good but not sure why.

3/6/6 is best obviously, but the three big roadblocks have been 1) Bama (ne Saban) complaining that their 3 perm rivals were harder than everyone else (Auburn, Tenn, Georgia/LSU?), and 2) the small schools like MSU, UK, Vandy, SCAR wanting an easier path to bowl eligibility that comes from feeding on that 4th cupcake, and obviously 3) the $$$ that comes from hosting a cupcake is big - even after paying them to take the L, the home school gets all that ticket and concessions gate.  Until Disney ponies up for the 9th game, the money makes more sense to host a directional school vs. giving up a home game every other year to a conference matchup if the TV-money is held equal.

I think news reports said that Sankey was able to get over the Bama concerns but there was a roughly even divide between bigger/smaller schools with regard to the 8 vs. 9 game SEC schedule.  SEC likes unison on decisions (or the appearance of unison), so it would not surprise me to see us stick w/ 8 games for another 2-year cycle.

Kentucky is awful.  They held Georgia to 12 because Georgia's offense is awful.

These are never funny.

The end of the hospital video where aggy tried to resuscitate Notre Dame after they lost to NIU was pretty funny, but yeah the rest of that video and everything else I've seen from them is pretty bad.

There was also the issue of Texas and OU favored the 9 game schedule but didn’t get a vote. The next time this comes up that is 2 more votes for 9, and I think it will swing it.

I don't think the SEC is going to add a 9th game unless/until Disney offers to pay more for it.

I think thats a chicken and egg thing, obviously they are not going to offer the 9th game without more money. I just can’t imagine a world where the mouse won’t pay for a 9th conference game and would rather show games against Mercer this weekend.

I believe there’s a pretty viable scenario where’s a 7 way tie for 2nd place if we beat aggy. People are going to lose tiebreakers, get butthurt, and maybe 9 games finally fucking happens in 2026.

The Cover 3 guys made a pretty compelling argument for the 16 team leagues all playing 10 conference games. It would eliminate a lot of these conference tie scenarios.
