OU Recruiting 2025: Truck Balls and Broken Dreams

it has to be an interesting coaching office dynamic. Arbuckle was hired for his offense, sure, but also for his QB. Presumably, Arbuckle didn’t make any promises he couldn’t keep, but he had to be seen as an asset in wooing Mateer.

If Arbuckle does all he can, and Miami makes a more persuasive case (they have a lot going for them), then OU goes back to the portal and tries to find another QB. It would be disappointing for them to fail to capitalize on this portal cycle with the WRs, but they would go forward knowing they took their best shot.

Now, imagine- Arbuckle actually makes a play for the WSU HC job, doesn’t get it but in trying, drives Mateer away (if Arbuckle spends more than a couple of days as a candidate, Mateer is an idiot if he doesn’t run). How does the program view their OC then? Probably pretty similar to how they viewed Lebby after he dressed Art Briles in Crimson and Cream and invited him down on the field.

And, we all agree, right(?), that if Arbuckle leaves and OU has no new OC and no new WRs, Mateer is absolutely out. OU would find themselves back on square one, needing a new OC before they could do anything.

As I see it, the Sooner program badly needs Arbuckle to not be a candidate, and to not be one right fucking now.

Another great option is he gets some "coach in waiting" guarantee shit at OU. Would be great for the locker room.

I don’t think anyone would believe it.

Per Stassen.com, from 1999-2021 (Stoops and Riley tenures), OU won 246 games, five more than the next FBS team (Boise), 15 more than the next P4 team (tOSU). Venables’ seat is red hot. Arbuckle’s acceptance of the OC job is either a pure money grab or an idiotic decision. A lot of other jobs are better

He's stepping in to about as awful of a situation as he possibly could.  He might be a moron or he might understand that he's caught lightning in a bottle and that this is his one chance at making good money before it all comes crashing down.

Old Baker sold him on evading the cops at ou

Can you imagine that pitch?

”Come on, man, don’t be an asshole. Sign with the Sooners. If you sign with Miami, don’t think I won’t be dogging your ass on social media every chance I get. Hey, they’ll give you a statue!”

Mateer choosing ou over Miami makes me think he hates pussy

He's from Little Elm, which is north Dallas/south Oklahoma, and went to school willingly in bumfuck eastern Washington (Pullman).  He's clearly more at home in Norman than Miami.

Well the King Cocksucking Douchewaffle Baker convinced him to go, so there’s that

Let’s see…Venables was at Clemson when Mayfield was at OU. Lincoln Riley was Mayfield’s OC and then HC. I’m not sure what real info Mayfield could offer. Maybe he offered to be Mareer’s friend?

I didn't realize Justin Chaisson was on the call. Did we get Dusty Dvorcheck as well to espouse the virtues of beating your friend nearly to death with a baseball bat?

The dude probably has Mayfield posters in his bedroom. He was a big OU fan growing up.

No, but they watched the video of Joe Mixon shattering a woman's face and shared a laugh together. "He only redshirted..."

Poor bastard. All he's ever seen are moonshine women in the mountains with little to no teeth. It all makes sense now.

Always blows my mind to see kids from Little Elm dotting the landscape of college football.

When I got out of school, I met a spicy little ginger (total cliché—gorgeous, adventurous, boundless energy, voracious sexual appetite, and absolutely batshit crazy) who lived there. I had never heard of it before. Creeped me the fuck out the first time I went to her place—the town itself was in the very early stages of growth and there was little else out there besides the post office (maybe a Mexican restaurant?)—she lived in what I would call the fucking sticks, at the end of long, unpaved road with very poor lighting. I remember thinking it would be the perfect place to ambush some dumbass and rob him blind…I also remember thinking I didn’t really give a shit because the risk was well worth the reward. Turned out the remote location was rather fortuitous—she was loud. Outside of a stunning beauty (also ginger) I met in Ibiza some years later, she’s still the most physically attractive woman I’ve been with…total basket case, unfortunately. Most exhausting seven months, good and bad, I’ve ever spent. With enough crazy ass stories to last a lifetime.

Anyway, I still think of Little Elm as the same dark, scary forest inhabited by that single crazed succubus who rocked my world back in the day, and I keep having to remind myself that it has actually exploded into a series of indistinguishable MPCs since then. I’m pretty sure that entire area where she lived is fully developed now. I’m also pretty sure that OU still fucking sucks despite this solid new addition.

He offered an opportunity to earn a 20% return on his NIL by investing with Camwood Capital Management Group.
