According to SoonerScoop.com sources, there could be other staff departures coming soon. On both sides of the ball.

The name to watch on the defensive side of the ball is Jay Valai. Oklahoma’s cornerbacks coach since 2022, Valai could be a candidate elsewhere for a defensive coordinator position. On the offensive side of the ball, it should surprise no one if tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley and running backs coach DeMarco Murray moved on from Norman.

The two OU football alums could be looking for opportunities elsewhere. Finley could be a candidate for OC jobs at the Group of Five level. Or he could jump to another tight end job elsewhere. And according to sources, that would likely be a mutual departing.

As for Murray, he will likely get calls from the NFL when the NFL regular season concludes. A jump to the league would not be surprising. He has garnered interest from several organizations in recent years, including the Las Vegas Raiders. Many inside the program expected Murray to be back in 2025 with the Sooners. And that still could hold true, but it feels as though anything is on the table for Murray right now.

With all of these potential departures from the coaching staff, don’t be surprised if any new players jump in the portal. Linebacker Lewis Carter unexpectedly got in the portal on Sunday. OU staff members, such as Brandon Hall, Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis, have been trying to hold this ship together since Alley’s departure. And on offense, the charge has mostly been led by new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.

Alley’s departure, and the potential for other departures, raise serious questions about the stability inside the Switzer Center and the overall operations and structure of the program. Under Alley, the future was bright on the defensive side of the ball.

At the time of his hiring, it was thought Venables would be able to step away from his unofficial role as head coach/defensive coordinator. That he would let Alley take over the reins of the defense. In turn, Venables would be able to focus more on the details of being a head coach. But the failures of the offense and the hiring of Seth Littrell overshadowed everything in 2024.

Now, Venables has to stabilize the program. Which is beginning to look like a more difficult task than anyone previously thought.

LOL. The Raiders are about to can Pierce, but Murray is a candidate for their RB Coach position on an unknown staff? How the fuck does that work SoonerScoop?!

This has been theory aside from general cock gobbling.

Vegetables was one of if not the most famous sign stealer before Stalions , not a surprise his stickt would take a major step back not having his ace in his pocket

An interesting data point that sticks out like a sore thumb is the Alabama game. While it’s harder now with helmet communications it does make you wonder.

Seriously, how do Sooners continue to spin any of this in any kind of positive light? What we’re seeing is a roster exodus and staff shakeup of epic proportions.

Looch thinks the sooner spin is embarrassing

I can't think I've ever seen a walk out of these proportions. I guess the good thing is that the Sooners can promise immediate playing time to anybody who signs up.

This is all terrible news and if true I’ll have a big sad. But I really trust Venables to go out and hire the best replacements, real charismatic teachers of the game. I’m sure no one with a successful career trajectory would send Skeletor’s calls to VM.

Brent Venables is actually executing the Bob Stoops Program Plan, and not doing horrible at it, but the framework of college football has changed. OU always recruited players with potential and then put them in a crucible to turn them into elite players. That worked when there were high barriers to player movement.

Now, there aren’t barriers to movement, plus there are now large overt enticements to change teams. The Stoops Method doesn’t work. As Dan Lanning said, your most important recruits each year are your current roster.

It’s too late for Venables to adjust. The OU AD screwed up in giving him a real extension last year (instead of the fake extension where the term is lengthened but the buyout doesn’t go up), after sufficient evidence was already in that Venables couldn’t retain his roster.

Say what now?

Listen, if players don’t want to eat their own vomit as a means of showing they’re truly in it for the program, Coach Venables and Coach Schmidt didn’t need those motherfuckers anyway.

BOOMER!!!

Say Murray leaves...would Texas have any interest in Tatum or does he suck too much? I have no idea on his ceiling.  If he can't get carries, then he can fuck off. See what he can do in case Baxter needs more time, and Blue is gone, add another RB like Tatum to go with Wisner until Gibson stops fumbling. If Gibson can get that under control and unseat Tatum, then bye.

I don’t know enough to comment, but this is from a Sooner post:

I will say, since the theme of the post is that Sooners shouldn’t contribute to their collective until big program changes are made, and they missed the chance to make such changes for another ten months, I support the message.

(Also, it sure isn’t a shock to hear about Switzer involved in a grift)

-- Oklahoma Top247 four-star offensive tackle signee Ryan Fodje cast a shadow as he entered Monday's check-in. He measured just shy of 6-foot-5, 295 pounds with a 34+ arm and the look of a player who could play outside or inside in the long run.
