Trimming the fat

This dude was a national top 75 guy. Texas and Georgia wanted him. You don't get to spin this as a good thing for you guys. You've lost more than 30% of your roster and the turnover has been in that range for the last 3 cycles. Maybe there's a correlation there to sucking. Maybe.

In the hierarchy of condescending and generic man names, where does "champ" rank for most people?

I think "fella" is the absolute bottom of the barrel. Somebody at the grocery store or Blockbuster video store calls you "fella" after shoulder checking you, it's high time for fisticuffs.

"Champ" probably tumbles in slightly above that for me. I get called "champ" and start looking over my shoulder for Ricky fucking Schroder.

After that it's "bud". When that waxed mustachioed bartender tells you to "check your vibes, bud" after you dressed him down for telling you that a martini can only be made with gin, it's time for a swift kick to that fucker's crotch.

"Friend" doesn't exactly set me off, but it does let me know that I could I never be that guy's friend.

Sitting atop the chain of common appellation condescension has to be "guy". It subtly signals both tones of derision and moderate respect, all at the same time.

Dismissed as time warps from the early 20th century are pal, mack, and jack and anyone using those terms in common parlance should immediately receive an atomic wedgie.

My toddler used to call of his figurines (little people, lego, etc.) guy.  For example: "where is my blue guy" "I need Batman guy"  "Give me that guy" (pointing to Princess Peach).  I am not sure if that affects the rankings, but it always made me laugh.

Everyone here will be shocked to learn that in what I can only assume is one of his many social experiments regarding parenting, CTJ named his youngest son Guy.

Wasn’t being condescending, not my intention. If I hurt your feeling I apologize sir.

Did you know the common use of the name "guy" is a derivative of the Gunpowder Plot? Not kidding.

Guy Fawkes was, of course, the immediate fall guy for the attempted act of terror. He was at the location of the bombs and working to set them off. People saw him coming and going and when reporting to authorities, kept mentioning a "guy" doing something with explosives.

They celebrated his efforts posthumously each year on the 5th of November by burning human-like effigies called "guys" and the name eventually became synonymous with random fellas all over the globe.

Which could lead me to how ATM posters view Texas as sort of the institutional version of V to their institutional Chancellor Sutler, but some might consider that a full digression.

ATM has several connections to the 5th of November:

1. Guy Fawkes Night is also called Bonfire Night, in which people celebrate an epic failure
2. Nov 5th is typically when the rollercoaster is in free-fall
3. Their roster is full of Guys. Well, Just A Guys (JAGs)

The WSU coach being hired by WF…

You would think Arbuckle wouldn’t be a candidate for the WSU job, except that he might come with his own (returning) QB…

This is one hell of a wild card. It’s fun to see how it’s played.

I think what he meant was Arbuckle takes the HC job at Wazzu, and keeps Mateer.

He’s probably making a little over a million per year at OU, and would get over twice that as HC at WSU.

Also, I’m sure it’s not lost on him how precarious his OU job is past one year. Venables could be done in November.

Maybe not, but we should be smart enough to use a period.

This is feeling like the start of a fever dream

OU's new shiny OC not even making it down to Norman before getting promoted to HC .

The QB they've been chasing stays or goes to Miami .

Veneables holding limp dicks in his hands trying to figure out what to do as he's the last dude trying to pick up scraps at 1:30 am before the bars close

Sure. Arbuckle was hired on 12-2, by OU. The portal opened on 12-9. I know Mateer is likely to sign with the Sooners, but this is 12-18 and there is not a single good reason for this not to have been complete by last Friday.

Time is not on OU’s side.
