The keys to beating Penn State.

1) Get the ball inside. A&M was scoring easily to start the game but for whatever reason abandoned going inside.

2) Dominate on the offensive boards. Penn State is small and struggles to rebound.

3) Don't over help on defense. If Penn State hits shots over defenders that's fine. I'm against doubling Pickett like aggy did because Penn State has too many shooters.

Dont aggy it up.

They play him at the 4 really. I think we have the guys to defend much better than aggy.

I.e. Allen and Mitchell. The problem with aggys roster is it's a bunch of guards and then bigs. They don't really have a wing they can put on Pickett.

Who is helped out more by a tightly called game?

I expect we’ll see that after the display tonight when the refs might as well not have had whistles

Probably us because Penn State usually doesn't foul that much.

Gerry Hamilton pointed out something interesting this morning.

For Texas to make it to the Elite 8, they are likely going to have to beat the 1st (Colgate), 2nd (Xavier) and 6th (Penn State) best 3-point shooting teams in the country.

That's strange, among the many grievances being aired by the aggies after that whooping they took was a lot of crying about how the committee intentionally matched them against "the best 3 point shooting team in the country" because they knew it was the aggies' achilles heel and as usual, the entire college sports world is united in their fear of a rising aggie juggernaut and will do anything to keep the mighty aggies down.  Which, mission accomplished yet again, I suppose.

Come on man, since ISU made the return trip to Austin on 2/21, Hunter has gone for:

15 (3-5 BTA)
13 (3-6)
15 (2-4)
20 (3-7)
11 (3-5)
9 (1-3)
2 (0-4)
10 (2-7)

Other than the KU game in the Big 12 finals, he looks a lot more like the Hunter we started the season with than the middle of the season Hunter.

The March version of Hunter and Disu + Rice/Carr doing their thing is why we look so good and are peaking at the end of the season/into tournament time.

Yeah, we can put Allen, Cunningham, Bishop, and Mitchell on him to give him different looks at size and athleticism. Going to be interesting to see if Penn State plays a similar defense that Colgate tried where every player had at least 1 foot in the paint, until Rice and Carr buried them from 3. Penn State did a similar thing against aggy, but aggy just kept bricking 3 after 3.

Colgates defensive strategy was absolutely moronic. We may not be an elite three point shooting team but Carr, SJR, Hunter, Morris can all hit some open looks. Their strategy of going under screens and not challenging shooters was incredibly stupid.

We were going to dominate on offense no matter what they did. They aren’t athletic enough to switch on screens and we would’ve killed them in the lane. If we missed open 3s at our normal clip it would’ve been seen as a decent defensive strategy.

A great way to ensure that shooters hit their open looks is to give them more of them.

Xavier better start hitting those 3s if they want to be beaten by us.

I got this message from a poor Penn state alumna on LinkedIn this morning. She is offering to wager only a Starbucks gift card on the game. 😂

That team was fucked as soon as the bracket was drawn. They did well to keep it to 20. Nothing they schemed on either end of the floor mattered one iota - and they largely schemed pretty well.

I’m traveling, so I didn’t get to see Princeton. With that caveat, is Colgate the whitest team in the tournament? These guys look like a bunch of fratboy assholes.

St. Mary’s roles out a whiteout that is glorious.
