Classic Car thread

And more fun to come for the MGA. Otherwise known as carpet.  And whatever you think you know from American cars - the British have a totally different idea. A two seat roadster has about 18 different pieces - and that is just to get to the back shelf. It doesn't cover it. Some are glued in and some use lift the dots fasteners. Of course Moss Motors sent me the pieces. You have to install the fasteners. As a very knowledgeable person on the MGA forum put it - no one includes instructions any more since you might mess up and demand a new set. The new versions of the carpet do not have sown edges - you get to trim as needed. This is totally different than my first MGA. Carpet took about half a day and a staple gun. The garage warned me that they usually needed about 15 hours to do it right.  Grrrr.....

I thought you classic car dudes would appreciate this. My old man's '67 427.

Possession is 9/10 of the law. Congrats on your new car.

We had really high tides this week so he asked to put it in my garage, since it's higher elevation than his.

Looking to buy an old model porsche. Besides bringatrailer.com -- are there other good sites?

Hemmings, ebay, porche specific sites etc. However, Ive had good luck with autotempest.com, as it aggregates all for sale data and puts in one searchable database. Makes it easy when looking for a specific car. Happy hunting!

I don't remember the site name anymore (ultimately decided to go with the E63 wagon for my final garage space instead) but when I was considering a 911, I know that there was a similar aggregate site somewhere - maybe something like pcarauction.com or some such? I couldn't find it with a cursory search from my phone (pcarmarket is the closest I could find, and that's not it) but I would be surprised if it ceased to exist.

There's also the classified section on Rennlist - I would poke around there too.

Looks great.   Those mods should address 80% of the issues that come up on these trucks.

Been working on electrical.  I think my Bluetooth radio got fried when the car was being welded on.  Getting a direct replacement shipped to the house today.

Headlights are the most distinctive thing on a 69 Mustang.  Got my relays installed in this new box and working, also got the alternator charging working.  Gauges are still out but that is next.  Then I’ll add the front end on and get the exhaust installed.

I found my 1998 on the Porsche.com website and it’s a really nice search site.

Or, if you have a friend in the Porsche Club you could look through the membership site.

good call. i know shit about cars so worry not buying from a dealer or a reputable classic car shop will end up with a car that is a project.

  • 3 weeks later...

Getting my front end installed. This took most of a day because I had some fouled holes I had to get a 7/16”-14 tap for to get the bumper bracket bolted to the driver side.

Still have valance, spoiler and lights to install.

Uh, she's my 15 year old daughter

Question re your daughter.  Does she enjoy helping you with the car and enjoy the car? I just ask because I’ve become a believer in classic cars as a family heirloom that tell our stories.

My 9 year old granddaughter loves helping her dad working on his 03 Excursion project and her mom’s 24 Bronco.  She wants my 99 4Runner for her first car and wants to trick it out so she can hunt deers with it.  But right now she wants to paint it purple with a big gold unicorn but with a lift kit and big shoes.  I just wish I had my mom’s 68 or my 70 442 or my dad’s 71 Ford pu.

Your car is looking great. Love that red.  Buddy in high school had a 69 with a 351c that he hottodded up. My favorite mustang fascia.

My kids like it in measured amounts.  Like anything there is an attention span for it especially the teen agers.  My 11-year old son jumps every time I call him to come out.  Getting the most of that before he becomes a teen.

fyi, 351C was not introduced until the 1970 model year.  If it was a 69 with original motor it was a 351W which is what I've changed mine out to from the original 302W.  I've had this car since high school.

another bad one was a mid-late 70’s Datsun B210.  One of the shittiest cars ever made.  It was so cheap.  Interior was mostly cardboard. But the dash had to come out. And it would only fit something tiny and cheap like a pioneer kp1500, and a couple 4 inch speakers unless you cut metal.  Anyone driving one of these had no money.

I had a 1978 Datsun B210GX. Pretty sure I put in a shitty stereo back in the day with no problem.

One of the perks of my job is working an extra deal at an auto auction that has a close relationship with John Clay Wolfe. He’s hosting a classic car Christmas sale tomorrow, and here are some of the featured offerings.

I’m by no means an expert in this field, but I’ll do my best to share the information I’ve been told about the cars.

My 2008 isn't quite a classic yet, but it's getting there.  It's name is Top Down.  I spent Friday night detailing it in the garage while it rained outside.  The rain cleared and the streets dried Saturday night, so I took Top Down out to get some gas.  It was looking good under the gas station lights, so I started taking some pictures.

Then this photographer on a motorcycle comes out of nowhere and starts taking pictures.  I let him take his time and showed him around the car.  He's going to send me pictures from his camera after he edits them.  Here are some from my crappy camera phone.

That photographer sent me some of his pics.  I'm not too impressed, but here they are.  The light up door sills look cooler in person.

IMG_8243.thumb.jpeg.bcb5bc7b165cd050bd9ba5ee273594a6.jpeg• 1955 Chevy Corvette. Was told this is 1/1. The guy said the exterior color was never used again. So much so they just used red for interior accents instead of trying to color match. I don’t know if any of that is true, but the color absolutely popped and the camera doesn’t do it justice.
