Ironic that the view of the capitol in this most recent photo is obstructed by buildings, yet there is a sign locating "Lady Bird Lake"* in the foreground.

* It will never be Lady Bird Lake. Ever.

Maybe belongs in the trivial things that annoy you thread, but Rainey Street “Ripper” is such a stupid fucking name for someone who drugs people and pushes them into the water

Rainey Street Rohypnoler doesn’t roll off the tongue the same way, but could work. You cool with that, Nicole?

Current Revolt just posted their weekly rumor mill article and the top story is the serial killer

Quote

Current Revolt has obtained an email sent to Austin Police naming a person of interest related to the Lady Bird Lake deaths.

10 bodies have been found in the last 20 months in the city of Austin. Curiously, the majority happen to be men.

Austin police have been closing these deaths and ruling there was “no foul play” in all of them. In some cases, rightfully so, as some of these bodies found have been dead for years and some are suspected of suicide.

Texas Monthly published a controversial article debunking claims of a serial killer on the loose in Austin. TM was even accused of colluding with the police in some sort of cover-up scheme.

A copy of an email we received not only names a person of interest but also the method of drugging, why police aren’t able to detect any drugs in the systems of the victims, and even includes a timeline of the activity of the alleged suspect.

We’ve reached out to the Austin Police Department to confirm the contents of the email as well as whether Austin PD was looking into the claims; we have yet to receive a response at the time of reporting.

Nicole: “I’m going to be summering in either Indonesia or Andorra or Morocco or Bolivia.”

Surly: “Nicole, are you just reading off a list of countries with no extradition treaty with the United States?”

Thanks! Sam Hill was the one I was thinking of

This took me a minute to recall. (It's been a minute)

I liked going there when boating as it was much less of a cluster fuck to get in and out of than most of the places on the lake.

The bigger problem on Lake Travis wasn't drunks falling out of bars, it was drunks falling out of boats and drowning.

Someday the authorities will start tracking everybody who was on board the various boats when drunks were falling out of them.

Police identified the missing man as Daniel Choi, and said he was last seen in the 600 block of Davis Street around 1:04 p.m. His friends found his cellphone on the ground at Caesar Chavez and South First Street around 5:45 p.m., APD said in a news release.

Ya…he doesn’t in any way resemble the pattern of men with dark hair who go missing near there with a group of friends.

it might be unrelated but if it is related I guess they should try looking in the lake

Gee, if only we didn't have one the highest tax revenue rolls of a large American city, we could maybe buy one less homeless hotel that will go unused and put up a few cameras between IH-35 to Davis to South Congress Bridge.  Hmmmmm.  Nah, let's just some more tactical gear

Was she a bartender at Fat Tuesday around 2001?

Where was that Fat Tuesday's again?  I remember it was a big deal when it opened because I think it was the first one in Texas.  I think I went a whopping 1 time.

I was walking around Barton Creek Square today.  And for some reason, I found myself trying to remember where that bar/pub was?  It was like "EPCOT" styled generic pub that served crappy American food.  And I couldn't remember the name or the location of it.  Been bugging me all day.

It was on 6th near red river. I only asked because I hooked up with a bat-shit crazy chick that bartended there. She named her dog Reggin because “it’s n****r spelled backwards.” After she said that, I noped out.

That also reminds me, didn't Austin have a Tropical Isle (NOLA bar) back in the 2000's for a few months?  Not sure about any racist dogs, but I coulda sworn we had one for a short spell.

This article is a hot mess.

the body has blunt force trauma but they aren’t investigating it as a homicide even though they are investigating? The article is bizarre. But it’s good to know LE and city officials are taking all the drownings and deaths downtown seriously 🙄

Someone has got to investigate APD. The speed at which they deny homicides and serial killings is faster than most surlyites finish sex.

The reason they are denying these deaths is because homicide is one of the primary metrics tracked for Dept effectiveness.

my wife lives and breathes true crime like @Nicole44.

I've seen enough of these shows to know that apd is acting like pretty much every department that completely bungles an investigation and purposefully ignores obvious evidence to the contrary because of some weird political bullshit

in our case it's because apd has basically quiet quit their jobs during covid and the city has no interest in making them do their jobs because the police union is up their ass. they are really lucky crime is so low in this city giving them room to maneuver.

it's so cool when murder is the best political capital to spend

fucking cops, man

I was talking to a retired Austin cop the other day, and he said basically this, almost word for word.

Somebody I know has ‘inside baseball’ knowledge.  Tells me APD is getting a an offer together to onboard a significant portion of Barton Oaks Plaza (or whatever that office park is calleD behind salt trader’s and old iHOP).  Ample garage parking for their fleet and stables.  Obviously expensive dirt and lease buyouts but they can redevelop their current site for a pretty penny.

i used to kinda be in the loop about their budget but i resigned.  But this Rainey Street “in denial” thing is just fucking weird.  I don’t see the angle.

Few days ago, some dumbass teenagers on gummies were shooting air rifles by our high school and hit my neighbors SUV. So powerful it went through all layers and into the seat, a few inches from her girl’s head.  Took hours and hours to get a response from law enforcement.

meanwhile, the Russian guy at the end of my street who is financially involved with the Austin-Putin oligarch who swept up by the FBI a few months ago.  Were had APD, WLHPD, RPD, Travis County Sheriffs, FBI, and DPS visiting almost weekly.

Moral of the story?  You have a problem or are out on Rainey Street, you pull a Warren Zevon and call in “How was I to know, they were with the Russians too?”

I’ve been rewatching the X-Files. That show was amazing. Not just for its time. I’m pretty sure that @Brisketexan Could find the Rainey ripper if this were 20 years ago. He seemed the type that if someone dropped him in the middle of the desert and told him the truth was out there he’d pick up a shovel and start looking. But now he’s old and wants to live in Finland probably trying to make money as a Ted Cruz impersonator.

on a serious note…allegedly the lights they are going to put up around the lake are supposed to happen in August. Meanwhile how many bodies since March of last year when they said “hey we’re doing all we can. We’re gonna put up lights and safety measures.” To be honest, if there is a serial killer maybe having a task force might be a better option.

a theory is running around that if the men are drugged that quite possibly they were drugged with Gabapentin. Which was found in Riley Strain’s body (assuming he had a prescription) but it does not mix well with alcohol. Just a thought. To add to the thoughts.

You just tied a prominent Austin attorney, a prominent Nordic country, a prominent U.S. Senator, a prominent scheduled anti-convulsant drug, and inside knowledge of a prominent string of murders.  My advice to you is to stop and head to Bolivia tomorrow morning.  I'd offer to help, but before we got on the plane, you'd pull a Murdoch and offer this B.A. a nice glass of milk.

It was to keep you watching with friends so you wouldn’t be able to put all the pieces together. They want you watching with friends so you won’t figure it all out. You watch alone and you’re like holy shit…the answers are all in this damn show. You watch with friends and all they care about is when Mulder and Scully are going to bang. Lol.
