Tech w/ the delay of game on 4th and 1 they were going for is pretty peak Tech.

Yeah, that made no fucking sense at all.  ISU will get the ball at least one more time no matter what and you're going for it on 4th at about midfield?

Leach at least had a theory about 4th down risk.  But he would have had an RB blocking and then waiting for a shovel pass.

We still control our own destiny, but committing so many unforced errors as a 13.5 favorite at home, and losing the way we did is the fucking worst

Could’ve been even worse because if TT QB was worth a shit they would’ve scored a lot faster on their last drive and ISU would’ve had more time to go down and bang a 32 yard FG off the upright for the loss as time expired.

We have 8 starters that didn’t play due to injury.  This team is fucking cooked.  8-4 if we’re lucky.

My best friends from law school are at the game. I flipped the channel to watch, ISU scored and cut the lead to 10 so I flipped it back to Georgia/ Ole Miss.  My strategy worked.

Damn - didn't know that. Wasn't trying to shit on y'all for no reason. I've just never understood why Campbell hasn't taken a shot at something bigger (no offense).

Those are always the problems you're going to run into at ISU. Everything basically has to go perfectly to wind up on the national stage. Too many injures and the depth will never be there.

Basketball, otoh, where you just need like 9 guys - I think you have a better chance at some big runs every once in awhile.

A couple reasons Campbell hasn’t left:

1) He would suck at a blue blood and he knows it.  If he takes the bigger job, he’s on his ass in 3 years.  He has a lifetime contract in Ames, and he’s still making generational wealth.  His strength is motivating and developing raw but talented guys.  He can’t relate to the higher end athletes, and he’s kind of a shitty in-game coach.

2) He has complete control of this program.  The AD lets him do as he pleases.  He’s stripped so much traditional coach expectations from this job.

3) He’s a private guy who hates glad handing BMDs and being in a microscope.  He’s a huge celebrity in Ames, but people leave him alone.  He could take his wife out for supper tonight and no one is going to bother him about that abortion of a football game.

4) His wife and kids love it here.  Allegedly his wife and a childhood friend turned lawyer serve as his agent(s).

5) Small expectations.  He’s a god for winning 8 games/year.  He’s not getting fired for going 4-8.

TLDR; he makes a shit load of money to do a job he loves, in a place his family loves, where there is very little pressure on him.

I understand all of that. I would just like to see him take a crack at something bigger. Which is, in large part, how much I rate him as a coach.

I kinda doubt he will at this point.  He’s basically Kirk Ferentz 2 hours to the west

Are y'all largely cool with that? As a fanbase.
I don't know why they wouldn't be. They've found their Gundy. They're far from blue bloods & they're either going to be a stepping stone for up & comers or be stuck recycling old guys or flame outs who couldn't hack it elsewhere.

A decade or two of solid performance, making bowl games on the regular & occasionally playing for a conference championship ain't such a bad thing.

Yes.  Of course.

We just want to be entertained and the Campbell era has delivered that in spades.  We don’t have high expectations at all in football and likely never will.

Love the battle between cyclones AD and the smu AD regarding CFP rankings...  😋

Pollard responded to Hart by saying he would respect SMU’s ranking if it beats Clemson for the ACC championship. He also added on the fact that the Mustangs hadn’t faced teams like Clemson, Miami, Georgia Tech or Syracuse in the regular season, and lost to BYU.

Both athletic directors may have a reasonable argument to make when it comes to a few facts and figures. According to ESPN, Iowa State holds a slight edge over SMU in terms of strength of schedule. The Cyclones are ranked at 68th in that metric, while SMU comes in at 75th.

The argument flips back in SMU’s favor when discussing ranked victories over the season. The Mustangs defeated Louisville and Pittsburgh when they were Top 25 teams, while Iowa State claims only one ranked win over rival Iowa.

Hart ended the back-and-forth on a light note with some encouragement for the Mustangs.

“We will continue to control what we can control. Pony Up!” Hart said.
