Beautiful fight.

I think Bivol got hard done a bit.  The 116-112 card was ridiculous.  Beterbiev landed most of his work on Bivol's gloves.  I was leaning more towards 115-113 Bivol or a draw.

Yea I thought it was strange scoring. Obviously I wasn’t paying as close attention as normal, I was watching the buttfucking happening in Dallas also. I thought Bivol was really good and wouldn’t have had issue with a draw. I hope we get another fight between them.

Right there with ya, man.  I had the game up on one screen and the fight up on my second screen.  Kept one eyeball glued to each.

The JABBR AI stats kind of played out exactly how I thought the fight went.  Beterbiev was busier, but missing and landing ineffective shots, while Bivol was landing the better, cleaner work.  I really think Bivol fucked himself by taking Round 11 off.  Beterbiev wasn't slowing down and Bivol's output dropped in the last three rounds and that's a bad look.  Was Beterbiev actually breaking Bivol down?  Nah.  But perception is reality.

And having that war criminal Khadyrov jumping in the ring, hugging Beterbiev, while it was clear Beterbiev's team got the scores early was just a terrible look.  This is a guy who has had fighters that fell out with him murdered.  Why the fuck is he anywhere near this fight?  I thought the Saudis were supposed to be sports washing their image.  This is the exact opposite of that.

So the Mike Tyson v Jake Paul fight is going to happen, next Friday, I guess.

And I think I have read that it is on Netflix, so if you have Netflix it is right there. No pay-per-view.

I don’t even know what to think will happen? Like Mikes not gonna die right? And Jakes not either? Seems like either could happen.

I think I read that the delay for this fight was because Tyson had a pretty serious ulcer. Hopefully he knocks Paul in the head.

Oops, upside your head, oops upside your head.

Whoa I just checked, didn't know Tyson was +200 for the fight

I guess being almost 60 years old, kind of hard to make you the favorite.

It is hard for me to overlook the "this is setup bullshit" for these kind of fights, but I will watch this Tyson/Paul one.  I really want Tyson to win, but I think if Paul lands one good body shot this shit is over.

Yeah. Tyson was washed up 20 years ago. Assuming this isn't a fictional contest, the chances he can chase down a 27 year old for an extended period of time are slim to none.

Chase down is right, Jake is going to side step and shuffle all night.  I hope Mike can find a magic stamina bean to eat.

I've been so annoyed at the thought of a 60-year old man pretending to be in fighting shape for the past few months that I haven't even considered, what if Jake Paul lands a big right hand, the type that's knocked out more than a few men in their 30s. The type that stopped Mike Perry. This is a 60 year old man we're talking about. This is probably Top 5 dumbest choices Mike Tyson has ever made in his life. Took me a second to configure the rankings because there's some dumb shit in there that we know of.

My money is on it being as fixed as they can get away with though. Another disappointing hugfest like Tyson/Jones.

I have thoughts.

1) Jake Paul isn’t good. But (and I know this isn’t a popular take) he’s not terrible. He’s strong, thick, has enough natural athleticism, and he’s worked hard enough to acquire basic professional boxing skills on the level of a regional journeyman 40 years ago.  He has below average feet and above average speed and power. If he really brings it in the ring he’s the kind of guy who gave Buster Douglas trouble. He’s good enough to hang with a better boxer who doesn’t come in fully committed.

2) Mike Tyson was spectacular and wonderful to watch, but his success came from a unique combination. First, he was physically unusual- a powerlifting build and supernatural core strength and balance combined with middleweight speed and movement. Secondly,  at his brief peak he essentially treating boxing as a monastic vocation to the exclusion of everything. Third, he only had elite ring skills but was fighting in a style that was archaic and strange even in the mid-80’s. Other professionals couldn’t really spar anyone like him because nobody else did or trained to do what he did.  Buster Douglas beat him  by retreating to first principles for a bigger boxer: distance enforced by a long, hard jab, forcing the smaller man to burn energy to work around it and keep their guard up. At that point, Tyson had left the monastery and as we all know had lots of distractions. His stamina was never exceptional, and it failed him, and he got knocked out. And after that night the old Tyson never came back. He didn’t even really box in the same style anymore. He became much more conventional. The Tyson who went on to beat Tillman and Alex Stewart and maybe Razor Ruddock (twice) was a top level pro, and maybe he could have found himself for the originally scheduled Holyfield fight, but we all know what happened next and after that, the dragon was dead after that, even if the boxer who remained was still a dangerous draw.

3) This isn’t just a fight between a 27 year old and a 58 year old. And it’s also not a fight between a dancing bear and a crafty old champion. It’s a fight between a dangerous puncher coming into his physical prime and a guy who hasn’t really been the MIKE TYSON of our imagination since he the Bruno fight in 1989.

This ridiculous promotion is based on a certain suspension of disbelief. Not just that an old man can beat a young one (and maybe he can), but that there was a boxer named Mike Tyson who was a historically great champion, and that’s not the case. There was a boxing phenom named Mike Tyson who could have been like Rocky Marciano, but he had a spectacular rise and dramatic fall, and came back to eke out a living as a celebrity contender in a division far weaker than the one he dominated years earlier.

Strength and is the last thing to go and assuming the fight is on the level (a huge if) I’ll give Mike Tyson a puncher’s chance for old times sake and I hope he wins.  But none of the elements that made him what he was are with him anymore, and I just don’t see it.
