Surly Boxing Thread

Wow.  Such power in those punches.

Also, just from a visual perspective, remember how Big George Foreman looked in his comeback? His punches never looked, just as an example, how Young Mike Tyson’s punches all looked vicious, but, they were heavy and hurt. This kid’s punches remind me of that. They don’t dazzle but, they land and hurt.

Glad I stayed up.  Fun fight.

Usyk is a phenom.  Man is going to go down as one of the greatest fighters of all time.  Up there with Ali and the rest.

On a side note, the Brits are completely classless.  Immediately started crying about the scorecards and not congratulating Usyk whatsoever.  Decision was completely correct.  Those are the scorecards you get when Fury isn't being gifted rounds he doesn't deserve.  He came in fat as fuck, said he was going to smash Usyk and knock him out, and he predictably got tired and out worked for the back half of the fight.  Even did less damage to Usyk this time around.  Couldn't find that same right uppercut like he did in the first fight.  The early rounds were close and could go either way and the judges were all over the place on who won those rounds.  But when Usyk took over from 7 onwards, they saw it the same way and gave Usyk basically every round.

So proud of Usyk though.  Dude has clocked the boxing game.  Won everything on the road against all the odds.  Went up against giants and chopped them all down.  And he did it all being humble and respectful to his opponents, even when they were badmouthing him and fucking him around.  Man is a legend.

Yup. I thought he was going come in bigger. Mainly because I think he should have been forcing the issue and looking for big knockout shots. Carrying the extra weight could protect a bit if he’s doing that.
But he didn’t do that at all. Usyk forced the action and landed the big shots. Didn’t let Fury clinch at all really. Just an absolutely dominating boxing performance.

And that's what sucks. Such a bad time for heavyweights.

I mean it’s really not. That’s what is great. We have some dangerous fighters at the top end of the division and he’s beat them all. Fury gets a lot of hate but he’s still an incredibly tough fighter and Usyk beat him twice. Dubois, AJ, Chisora all have big time power. Usyk beat them too. I’m not saying this is the best time ever for heavyweights but it’s not just scrubs.

Yeah what’s @hobbes2702.  Usyk is in the size range of fighters from the golden age of heavyweights. He’s fighting and beating massive, athletic super-heavyweights.  Joshua and Dubois are not scrubs and Fury is a fantastic fighter.

At cruiser-weight the convo is Holyfield and Usyk and no one else.  At heavyweight you have to leave him in the conversation around boxers like Holyfield at the heavyweight rank.

The dude has incredible ring IQ, good power, footwork, and one of the best gas tanks ever on a heavyweight.  No real gaps in his game.  The one knock is that he doesn’t have a long record at heavyweight, but instead of fighting cans he was beating up excellent cruiseweights who would have been heavyweights in prior generations.

He could compete in any generation.
