I think that depends on whether TOR works itself into a tie with SEA and TEX or not.  2-way SEA/TEX tie favors TEX.  SEA wins 3-way IIRC.

Regardless, there's very little chance of AZ winning 2 or 3 against the Astros.  Their pitching staff is radioactive ass outside of Gallen and Kelly, who are currently scheduled for the first two games.  But those guys are getting scratched as soon as they clinch, which could be tonight.

you are talking to people who just went 2-7 against the A's and Royals.  There's no bottom we can't plumb.

I think it's total record vs teams in the tie.

It is indeed.  I don't know what the next step in the tie breaker would be but we won't need it.  Any three way tie is certain to end:

M's

Astros

Rangers.

The Astros only have a 5.8% chance to win the division so our realistic rooting interest should be that the Rangers win today and tomorrow and we win on Friday to lock up a wild card spot. That way we don’t have to pitch JV on Saturday so he’ll be ready for the opener of the wild card round.

Yep, this is where I am on all this.

ok, so they only win division in a 3-way tie. what’s that tie breaker?

I believe it goes to the BCS system, which if past history is an indicator, will likely leave out Texas in the event of a 3way tie.

Uh, you want the Astros to face scrub pitchers?  That is a guaranteed loss.

how many teams have made the playoffs with a losing home record?  Probably zero.

I’m sure it’s a bunch.
team win divisions with close to .500 records regularly

Atlanta won the NL East in 01 and made it to NLCS before losing to AZ.. I’m sure at least a couple wild card teams did over the years

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a losing record at home in 2020.

Dbacks are down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th right now, so not looking great. Would be awesome if they comeback and win it, as they may not need to win another game to lock up that 2nd wild card.

What teams am I pulling for tonight?

I’ve pretty much given up on the division title and prefer the 6th seed so we match up with the Twins in the WC round. So go Rangers! Go Blue Jays!

I'm still hoping for the division, so Mariners.

I guess I’m more conservative. The Mariners crashing and burning guarantees a playoff spot. Them winning some games puts that at risk if we slip up. There’s a chance to do something great if we’re in as a wild card but zero chance if home on the couch.

This is where I am, too.

Just make the tournament.  If we're the 6 seed, I still like our chances to go deep.  Minny isn't very good, and the Rangers know we owned them all year, plus all those road games?  Sheeeeeeeit, let's go.

I am rooting for Seattle tonight for sure, just to make sure that the Rangers don't get to lay down earlier than necessary.

Make them earn it

Don't worry, they're waiting to lay down in the playoffs
