That would be true of a normal person.  Most people are drained of energy when they are engaged in conflict.  Trump strangely gains energy from it.

Catching up on the thread. Great fun. Thanks go to the analysts such as TwiceHorn. I don't get why people sharing a learned opinion attract antagonism. Maybe their right, maybe their not; the opinions never seem personal.

Reading the above and agreeing with it, my mind drifted to aspects outside of the courtroom: his radical followers.

If indictments pile up, what happens in a world where leading elected GOPs are claiming, in their usual projectionist way, that the ebil Dems are weaponizing the federal government? What happens with the constant braying from Trump himself calling for violence by predicting violence?

Where do the stochastists strike? Whom have they been told is the enemy? The more organized Christian white nationalists will not try another public takeover.

In a good old banana republic, every revolutionary knows that you takeover the radio stations and kill the prominent opposition leaders. If you lay on two more indictments from federal and state prosecutors, the narrative of weaponized government and dangerous radical socialist Democrats seems to be fulfillment of the Scriptures.

God, country, Donald, the children! need me!

This may not really be a direct response, but I didn't see a questions in your post.  So if I'm on a tangent, please forgive me.

They are lost.  Best not concern yourself with what they think or how they are being manipulated.  Tune out from all 24 hour news, and you'll find you really don't hear much about Trump or his ilk in your day-to-day life, even from the mouths of the lost, unless you dwell among fringe elements.  And believe me, if I can go around this part of Texas and mostly avoid this sort of irrational spewing of nonsense (notice I didn't say completely), anyone can.  That's not to say you shouldn't stay informed, stay engaged, and vote.  But the more you keep your head out of the manufactured noise of 24 hour news media (and I do mean all of it having disengaged from MSNBC's loop about a year ago), the less anxious you will be, and the more you will be able to focus on doing what is right for you, Surly, city, state, and country.

And the guy I heard walking out of a store yesterday saying "We just need to get rid of  all the Democrats".

Savannah this morning on Today show when Trump’s lawyer told her the payments weren’t campaign related:

“So his argument is they were made so Melania wouldn’t find out?”

Lol.  Cold.  And c’mon.  That doesn’t hold water, Savannah.  We all know Melania was well aware.

Can we all take a moment and appreciate that for the last 7 years, Donald Trump has spent every waking moment trashing New York City and everything it stands for... and now, the people he pissed off are in charge of his fate.

It's like a real life version of Survivor, Mark Burnett must be so conflicted.

. . . and we know it wasn't to hide the affair because we have communication from Trump pressuring people to delay payments in the hopes of getting past the election, at which point he wouldn't pay at all because it wouldn't matter if all the info came to light.

Saw a cnn dot com piece this morning that said stormy was ordered to pay an additional $150k in trump lawyer fees for her defamation suit loss, bringing the total to around $600k.  I know zilch about defamation, and even less about her case specifically against him. but it sounds like she must have gotten some bad advice in going after him if that’s the result, and financially she’s definitely on the losing end for her total interactions with djt.

seems like it might be a glitch in the system when the rich people can hire the best, and probably most expensive lawyers, use them to win, then get the court to make the opposing party pay for them.  Feels like a deterrent to bringing viable claims.

A dozen or so lesbian flicks should cover that no problem.

So does she eventually pay that to his inmate trust account or does she have to have it converted to cigarettes?

I can’t even listen to NPR anymore because I sit there arguing with the radio anytime I hear a GOP or man on the street arguing how this is a political witch hunt or some education bill to put the Ten Commandments on walls or the bill to let preachers teach or…

I genuinely appreciate the response and how it's phrased, but you are way off target on what I'd hoped would be the thrust of my post.

I'm not fretting or losing any sleep over what I can't control. My opinion is not founded in seeing Maga hats or listening listening to 24-hour news. I do go around not seeing much Maga stuff. I wish that was a reliable basis for determining what terrorists and violent insurrectionists will do.

You suggest I take steps to avoid hearing about or contact with Trumpists. I try to remain emotionally detached in forming opinions; I have no desire to detach myself from news about the tidal forces at work on the republic.

Again, thanks for responding. This response is not meant to be pointed.

Can we all just acknowledge that Karen McDougal is so much hotter than Stormy Daniels?

I think she’d be even hotter if she’d never gotten that awful boob job. I’ll bet the same is true for Stormy who wasn’t bad when she was younger. I thought I’d seen photos pre-boob job when she was like 19 or something that looked really good but I can’t find them anymore and I may be mistaken about that.

Okay, what I took away from the news last night is that now we wait until December for the next appearance, and if we're lucky, we'll get a trial next spring, but these charges don't have much teeth, unless Dotard says things that violate State of NY laws around interfering with governmental process, which he probably might, or unless one of his followers goes after the judge he named in his statement, which they very well might, and in either of those cases his charges could go up significantly.

Does that about cover it?

I haven't had time to delve too deep into this, but I heard some NPR reporting, and it sounds to me like he is definitely guilty of falsifying records (reimbursing Cohen for the Daniel's payoff and calling it attorneys fees) and that this particular crime isn't all that serious and likely wouldn't result in jail time, but they definitely have him on the charge. It sounded like the bigger issue was whether they could piggy back it to violation of election laws which would make it a much more serious felony. I'm obviously sure that it's more complicated than that, but I don't see how he gets out of falsifying documents, even if the punishment is relatively weak for that crime by itself.

The funny thing is how hard the mainstream "liberal" media is going out of its way to "give voice to" Republicans saying this is all a witch hunt, when polls were showing 60% support for indicting him before the charges were even known. It sure seems to me like a large majority of Americans (so, not just Democrats) pretty clearly understands the guy is a huge fuckin criminal and thinks he should face justice.

The mainstream media wants Trump to get reelected so much.

You know, I never really thought about this before. All I ever thought when I looked at this picture was about how he’s such a fucking moron that he doesn’t know how to color in the American flag. And maybe someone else has already brought this up. But if you look, he does know how to color in the Russian flag. Maybe I just misread his intent.

They can pin for some lower level felony.  Then we have the shitshow of felons being able to become president but not vote in many states.

Everything is so much better if you do though.

Just my $.02

Yes, that approach to life is really working out for us, isn't it?

I seek plenty of distractions in my life for escape or pleasure. I wouldn't be happier emersing myself in that and ignoring the constant input of diverse things that come at us in reality. Wonderful. Demoralizing. Juggernaut-esque.

Paying attention to the functions and fate of the republic are the basic requirement of citizenship for the life of the republic.
