The plausibility, or at least bandying the idea, that one could plan and incite a violent insurrection to overthrow America's centuries-old democracy and haggle with a DOJ (that I think is safe to say has some fascist elements) to strike a deal that could insanely include no prison time, is at best kicking a can down the road and at worst an invitation.

And I think this is a terrible take. If you step back and look at the big picture, the goal is that Trump never is able to become elected again. The unhealthy old fuck will die very soon, we only have one presidential election to worry about. If he does not run in that election, the GQP down ballots will suffer tremendously as Maggot forces will not show up.   It is a cult - and there is only 1 leader.

And more importantly, it deprives him of the opportunity of spending every day on Fox News and Newsmax having toadies tell lies about what was happening at the trial.  It also tamps down the effect of his lying grievance stuff after he pleas (rather than gets convicted and appeals) - and it keeps him from attacking the jurors and witnesses who did.  You seem to all want a trial when it is clear that witnesses are very much intimidated by his cult of idiots. And rightfully so. They should be concerned. It also takes conservative courts of appeal and (more importantly) the Supreme Court out of the conviction trial reviewing game.    it is far harder to overturn a plea agreement than it is to overturn a criminal trial for some perceived constitutional or procedural technicality violation.

There are so many positives to our country’s survival in a guilty plea, that the main reason for objecting to it is everyone wants their pound of flesh. Their pound of flesh is an emotional response, not a real politik solution to a horrible problem that could bring down the country forever.

No Trump reelection is the only thing that matters. Everything else is payback bullshit and wish casting and increases the odds he might have win in 2024.

Any plea should also include a very public admission of guilt and a social media ban and probably a ban on appearing on Fox/OANN/any sort of media appearance. Otherwise he'll continue to agitate and sic his MAGAts on people he doesn't like.

He’s not going to abide by any media ban.

Trump exhorting 'Pubs to let the shutdown happen, hoping it will interfere with the government's ability to proceed with the prosecutions.  Anyone surprised even the least little bit?  True colors.  What a POS.

Shutting down the government to foul up Trump's prosecutions would be the most Republican thing ever.

Ordinarily, DOJ criminal prosecutions are exempted from government shutdowns.

Oh, it's nonsense for a variety of reasons that a shutdown would grind the prosecution to a halt.  The point is that how pathetic and revealing it is for Drumpf to attempt to avoid prosecution on this basis.

But yeah, it is also totally on brand that he wants to destroy the economy, fuck with federal workers' livelihoods and throw the government into turmoil to save his ass.

Exactly.  If only there was some way to keep him from freely broadcasting his poison, some place we could put him where he doesn’t have access to media 24/7.   It seems like that would be a great solution, if only such a place existed.

Maybe the folks at OceanGate are up and running again....

ADX Florence sounds like a great solution.

It would be better to let him land in Russia so then his curse of turning everything he touches to shit is transferred to them.  They’d be driven out of Ukraine within days, their oil wells would dry up, he’d somehow manage to make oligarchs lose money in the racketeering business, all the Russian people would rise up and overthrow Putin for not building a wall on the Finnish border.  It would be amazing.

I think I coughed up a part of my Covid lung, but that was pretty fucking funny
