Maybe he will remain one.  He currently is.  We will see what the appellate courts do.

But as the political maneuver the lawfare was, it failed spectacularly.

I know this is difficult for you, Johnny I Inherited a Grocery Chain, but the convictions were the goal and they failed in no way whatsoever.

Congrats!  The tactic really worked out well for you guys.

Whether it was politically smart to pursue and whether suspected criminals, regardless of stature, should be put to trial if the evidence warrants it are two completely separate arguments, you agree?

You mean the American people?  For whom the judiciary serves?  Yes, I suppose so.

For the most part, they are.

Mostly they get theirs.  Teflon Don is, apparently, a real thing.

I feel confident he'll do something once again to bring the scales of justice out once more.  He fucked it up once, he'll fuck it up again.

Listen, I don't want to tell you how to live your life, but, for your sanity, abandon any hope of Trump every "getting what's coming to him." We'll get through this next 4 years, but there's definitely no satisfying conclusion waiting for us.

This is certainly an interesting tactic from an officer of the court.

"conspiracy against rights"

I can tell he's a Crackerjack lawyer.  That's something Biff might call a crime.

Immune from official acts, which remain pretty vague.

I hear you.  I'm not holding out any grand hopes.  We'll get through four years, agreed.  It's already unsatisfying, because there he is, still living and breathing.

The BEST people.  Except this time around "best" looks like the last ones waiting to be picked for dodgeball at an institute for the mentally challenged.

Except now he's not going to die a sad loser, tweeting out about lord knows what. He's going to be celebrated as a conquering hero.

Don't worry - Aileen, Clarence or one of their brethren will hold his hand through the process until he can articulate a colorable enough position to bankrupt anyone that had the temerity to question Dotard's integrity.

Payback is going to be a bitch.  And it’s coming soon.

This is an intellectual integrity test:

1. Do you think that prosecuting people for political reasons is acceptable?
2. Do you think political actors should be prosecuted when they have committed a crime?

Yeah, what guys like Johnny Grocery bitch about isn't actually something like lawfare, it's their perception that lawfare was used against his side.  Using it against the other side is totally cool, because he'a  big fucking hypocrite.

That's a classical fascist tactic - accuse your enemy of doing to you what you're about to do to them. By constantly claiming victimhood and nursing grievances it empowers their internal moral high ground to keep digging in. And it helps to engender support from an uninformed public since they have a vague impression of that norm already being broken.

So "lawfare" is fine when the GOP does it? Cool Cool...

Yeah, over here in the CR, we worry about whether it's right to take the low road or not.

The Trumpists go straight there all the time every time.

Haha - Frank thinks the rocket scientists (otherwise known) as the House Republicans will actually find something this time. That group had to bring a consultant in to teach most of the members to tie their shoes. They can put GED Boebert in charge of this investigation.

Yep. They’ve already sent over a bunch of doctored documents to the FISA court ready to get info.

Charles Guiteau succeeded - and he was flat nuts.

If two people have already made serious attempts to kill him i doubt they are gonna stop now that he’s President.  Which is kind of like prosecution….but different.  And totally unconcerned with presidential pardon power or immunity.

Judge overseeing 'fake elector' case recuses himself after defense accuses him of anti-Trump bias

GOP "You have to recuse yourself, you have anti-Trump bias!!"

Judge "Well, I don't, I follow the law, but to maintain decorum I'll recuse"

Dems to Judge Cannon "you have pro-Trump bias, you have to recuse yourself to maintain decorum"

Judge Cannon "Go fuck yourself"

Donald Trump Got Away With Everything

If his prosecutions were already on life support, Trump’s stunning election last week all but killed them—a bitter reality reflected by a report Wednesday that Smith is planning to step down from his role before the president-elect takes office in January. According to the New York Times, Smith—who has been baselessly accused by Trump and his allies of conducting “lawfare” on behalf of Democrats—is looking to wrap his work in the coming weeks, and will resign, along with members of his team. How, exactly, he will close his two cases is unclear. But what is certain is that they will not make it to trial.
