Obviously none of us know what's happening behind the scenes.  She could be a surly person for all we know, though I think she's smart and shrewd enough to navigate the locker room.  But, at least in public, she's cool as a cucumber and says the right things in the right way to the girls who hate her guts

Maybe so, but regardless that is the biggest reason she still get hate, right or wrong.

no it isn’t. you have no idea what you’re talking about. again, her “racist asshole fans” didn’t even exist until after cc became the target of a bunch of physical and verbal attacks by black women. the racist assholes you’re referring to didn’t even have the wnba on their radar until after the fact.

Once again Derka, you have perfected the "I didn't read what was said I'm just reacting" take.

I said it's the main reason she's STILL getting hate.  I'm not arguing that the other stuff didn't come first. Or why she was hated on at first.  You're projecting.

But NOW, at this point, there is more hatred directed at her because of "her racist fans" than any other reason.

She already took her bumps in the Pro's. Most of the players are probably cool with her now.

You're making an argument that is flat out not true.

What's not true? The she gets backlashes for her fan base? Because saying that isn't true is baffling.

I am not arguing in any way that her fan base started it...some will. But not me.

However I think you're totally wrong if you don't think a part of her fan base isn't racist and isn't making it worse at THIS point.  If so ya'll really aint paying attention on social media.

yeah, drew is acting like cc got a little rookie hazing, paid her dues, and now everyone in the league respects her. wrong. they hated her and mistreated her out of sheer pettiness and jealousy, and that hasn’t gone anywhere for most of them. this idea that her peers only dislike her “racist fans” is a total red herring.

Her fan base from what I've seen everywhere on the internet is reactionary to her hate. They are not going out and targeting opponents or "rivals" with racism and hatred. And before you bring up the sloth looking bitch, she has her own haters that range from all demographics. Is there racist people in her fanbase sure but they're not the ones initiating the hate.

Her fanbase was the largest in her sport while she was in college.  It wasn't until she entered the WNBA and became the face of it before her first game that the racism against her started in earnest (although there were building blocks during the final 4 her sr year - that is when the likes of Swoopes, Lobo all tried to downplay her generational talent and showed their catty jealousy, Reece etc).

A small amount of incels who have never seen a female up close or play basketball decided to white knight online for her when the racist articles, comments and treatment from the regular WNBA media and players became so public against her.  Think I read over 20% of all flagrant fouls in the league were committed against Clark.

You even had team owners who moved games to large stadiums trying to take away credit from Clark when they averaged 5,000 fans a game.   They left her off of the Olympic team out of pure petiteness etc.

Pretending there is a large group of racist Clarke fans is just the excuses needed to continue the attacks on her skin color, popularity and sexuality.

I don't even think it's a race or sexuality issue. It's a women treating women issue. You'd never see shit like this among professional male athletes in 2025. Call me sexist or misogynist or whatever but it's the truth. It's a bunch of women hating another woman because she's better than them.

Relevant Family Guy.

Trying to figure out how Hannah Hidalgo, whose anti-gay social media post prompted a bunch of her teammates to hit the transfer portal, is going to be the face of women's basketball....

Where the fuck did I say that you idiot?

Your ENTIRE premise was "she isn't getting hate because of her fanbase" and she actually fucking is.  Plus the other "I don't want a white savior in basketball" folks too.

She absolutely has the respect of the majority of the players NOW(not at the beginning of last season), not all...because NO ONE fucking does.

The reason she get's trashed NOW is that some in the media and her fan base, act like she's the ONLY reason womans basketball can be successful, and the other side take offense to that.

It's not really that hard.

YOU are arguing something I've NEVER said.

You are making bad arguments.....She is the face of basketball and she is the reason people are watching now. The numbers literally tell that story and do not lie.

repeatedly throughout this thread. your entire argument has been that the no.1 reason she’s still hated is because of some mythical racist fanbase. you’ve said that, repeatedly. and that’s not true. you simply have no idea what you’re talking about, but you just won’t stop talking.

What a disgusting headline.

Meanwhile Caitlin Clark keeps making me like her more.

Predictably awful posts from some of the dumbest posters on the site and I’m not referring to Derka or BOW.  “Last Jedi is good” level stupidity on display.

Yeah my bad for engaging, I should have known they wouldn't actually use what I was ACTUALLY saying, and just take bits and twist it to some other BS.

It’s going to be interesting when Caitlin & Paige are the faces of the league this year.

There may be some haters.

Some veterans are going to be torn over which one to foul (off the ball) harder.

Meh....Bueckers aint gonna move the needle in the WNBA any more than Plum, Ionesque, Stewart etc... She will be talked about, but my guess is she won't have anywhere close to the impact on attendance and viewership that Caitlin has. She will be recognized as another good player, but she is nowhere near the phenomenon that CC was.  Hell, just look at the championship game ratings for women's hoops this year vs last year. Down 50% with a constant of South Carolina as the opponent, resulting in two of womens hoops biggest programs/coaches going head to head. Ive seen some highlights of JuJu at SC, and she is really the only other player that seems like she could have a CC type impact (in terms of skill).

I mean there’s no Angel Reese this year doofus

plum is the perfect example of why Clark’s race and looks aren’t a factor. Plum is way hotter

Plum was on some meh teams in college and it took her a few years to become a good W player.

“we just want to get paid what we’re worth, and it’s coming.”

this attitude is insane. wnba players already get paid *more* than they’re worth. they’ve been propped up and given handouts for years, and this is their attitude. we subsidize their league, we throw their shitty games on espn, we put their players in national ad campaigns for gatorade, nike, and new balance, all when there is *zero* public demand for any of this. they act like there’s some invisible machine that’s holding them down in fact the invisible machine has been propping them up in unserved ways for years. their shitty, selfish, entitled attitudes are such a turnoff, and at this point i’d love to just stop with the handouts and let the league see how it and its members thrive based only on what they actually deserve.

Stewart?  Ionnescu? De La Donne?

I think Stew and De La Donne would be bigger stars if they were coming out now.

Ioenescu is a pretty big star but she's just not the same caliber of player and like Plum it took her a few years to play good basketball in the W.

Paige was a bigger star than Caitlin until she tore up her knee.

Paige grew up with Jalen Suggs in Minnesota and the press couldn’t get enough of the two of them both having major impacts on college basketball as freshmen at basketball powers on opposite sides of the country.

Paige won the national player of the year… AS A FRESHMAN!

…and then she tore her knee up and the (white) spotlight turned to that other white female player from the Midwest who had been playing in Paige’s shadow.

Paige won’t raise the public’s awareness the same percentage that Caitlin did, because that is impossible due to the starting point for Caitlin, but she will continue to raise the game’s awareness and her road games will be full, just like Caitlin’s.

PS- Just opened “ESPN.com” on my phone and this is what I saw. Main page… is Paige.

PS- I did not think that she was a lesbian due to her dropping religious crap through her interviews, but many Jesus is her beard.

She totally gives off a dyke vibe and without makeup and filters, she’s a bit rough, but still thought that she walked with Jesus and hoped to marry a man someday.

If she is a lesbian, she still has crossover appeal.

Caitlin never references religion…

(Thank god.)
