True, but this is beyond traveling.  It's catching the ball and walking.  I think I also noticed her catch the ball, hop once then walk and hop again to shoot.

this shit right here is particularly insane, and is an outstanding example of how/why drawing more attention to the wnba and its players has only made people dislike the league even more than they already did:

what an absolutely insane response to caitlin clark simply saying that she doesn’t pay attention to the political talk and that she just focuses on basketball. who in the hell is dijon carrington? and why is she not kissing caitlin clark’s feet and thanking her for drawing more eyes to this league and its many many social justice causes? fuck these spiteful, hateful, ungrateful, slow and uncoordinated women. i hope the league folds by christmas.

i just now found out that this league has 12 total teams.

IMG_8245.thumb.jpeg.989f52bc1d9d53355333258030509700.jpeg

144 total players. they’ve got the best 144 professional female basketball players in the world and the product is still this bad. and beyond that, the league still has super teams just like the nba, with a disproportionately high concentration of the best players all being on 2-3 teams, meaning that the 10th best team in the entire league (so, the bucks or the cavs in the nba) is actually on par with the pistons or the blazers. the balls on these women to be so brash, demanding, and entitled with such a make-a-wish league. just wow.

From "The Truth Behind The Caitlin Clark Conspiracy" video:

In order for the wnba to accept you, they need you to be... Black, LGBTQ, or a Social Activist...  preferably all three.

WNBA is sad. Just shut it down and let these girls go make real money overseas.

Many of here have way more knowledge than me on this topic, but what are some of the big shoe/merch/training deals some of the prominent WNBA players have?  There's got to be some money in that because the girls in my oldest's league go through sneakers and sweatbands and shorts and water bottles each season faster than the boys do.  And they talk about women players, mostly college---but I started hearing chatter at the of the season about the WNBA for the first time.  I would think if Clark and other big names played overseas, they'd get way more salary and adulation, the WNBA would fold; but I bet it would limit their marketability back here in the U.S.  Girls 8-18 in our area would follow the UT Women's hoops team, and the Olympics, but I don't see any of them buying some shoe or random non-hoops product endorsed by the 2nd best women's player in the Italian League-even if she is an American.

It makes me petty, but when organizations just implode themselves instead of course-correcting...it's always fascinating to me as a business academic.  I know there's socio-political factors here, and marketing/media implications, and the Olympic team bullshit, and ribbing the rookie.  But there's a 50/50 chance this whole thing ends up like a Blockbuster Video or Kodak or Sears.  Nobody can predict the future, but when the future knocks on your door and offers to exponentially increase your revenue/exposure...you at least listen to it.  You don't hip check it into the fucking ground.

Poignant when you considered they doubled their losses from 25 to 50 million this season by instituting charter flights for teams alone.

The privilege of the other players past and present is off the charts. They have done nothing to earn the attention or 6 figure salaries for 40 games in terms of providing entertainment value to the public (pro sports are not charities). A rookie is now doing it and enriching the rest of them in the process and their response is that the same attention/following/money/fame was already owed.

The WNBA has been put on third base for most of it’s history. The XFL would kill for the coverage ESPN/sportscenter has given the WNBA for years for basically no reason (interest or ratings wise) or the ability to lose a quarter billion over 25 years and still be in business

I honestly just think they are not athletic.  I think it will happen eventually, but at this point, the overall athleticism in the W is awful.

There are probably fewer than 30 women in the WNBA have any real athletic ability.  The rest are just playing because they are above average height.

I was told by a 12 year old or so boy from Iowa that is a Hawkeyes fan that Caitlin Clark is overrated and that Luka Garza would kill her 1-on-1. I just looked at him and said “Well yeah I would hope so.”  Mom just kinda sat there and didn’t care.

Good on Clark almost getting a triple double today in the win. It would take Garza a couple of months to get those combined stats in the NBA.

Yea, she was pretty good for 3 quarters and almost had the first rookie triple double this season.  But she was bad in the 4th.  Real bad.  0-3 from the field.  1 rebound, 1 turnover.  A missed FT when they were trying to put it away (she did make 3).  Not exactly clutch.  She'll need to get better in 4th quarters to get to the next level but huge win for the Fever.

CC suffering thru migraine today...

https://athlonsports.com/wnba/fever-coach-christie-sides-caitlin-clark-migraine-mercury-reaction

After the game, Clark did not address the media, which was highly unusual. However, Fever head coach Christie Sides told reporters that she wasn't feeling well and was spending time with the trainer.

"She wasn't feeling well the entire game," Sides said, which immediately raised some eyebrows. The team reported that Clark was suffering from a migraine, per the Indy Star's Chloe Peterson.

I don’t care what sport you play nor whether it is a men’s or women’s contest. If you are playing with a migraine and gut out an entire game, while sitting for a grand total of 33 seconds, you are one bad son of a gun.

Also her ability to pull up and just gun it from that deep with complete confidence is part of what makes her different from any woman that has ever played in the WNBA. She is just on another level of confidence to do that regularly.

Who the fuck is "we"? Have you given them money? Have you let them "cosplay as pro athletes" or "let them play dress up"? Have you had espn cover it? Cause if you've done all of that shit for a league you clearly dislike, I gotta say man, that's on you.

men. men gave them the league, men support the league and buy more tickets and merch than women do, the men’s league keep the wnba afloat when it’s hemorrhaging money, and on and on and on.

look i’m not the one who started this fight or drew this line and decided that it was women vs men. the wnba did that. they have bitched about men not doing enough for them for longer than i can remember, and until recently we (men) just ignored all of that garbage and kept it moving. but then the events of recent months transpired, these women who you so blindly support and white knight for finally got us (men) to pay attention to thhwie terrible sport, and their reaction? they go after the one girl who brought all of us here in the first place and they scream at men for not watching this shitass product sooner. okey dokey!

if you and the women of the wnba didn’t want me claiming victory then you shouldn’t have made it so clear that i was on the other team, that i was your enemy, that i was to blame for your struggles. don’t get all butthurt now that we (men) are finally tuning in to your sport just to find out that not only do these women objectively suck at basketball, but that many of them are even worse people. don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

I have literally never watched a minute of a WBNA game. I don't give a shit about the league. It's not for me and that's 100% fine with me. I just don't also see it as a fight. Of course I know that the NBA is subsidizing the league. So what? If they weren't doing that would the money be going to me? Is there a Serak fund that I don't know about?

I skim this thread every once in a while because I am truly amazed at how strongly people feel about something they don't watch or enjoy. You said "we" subsidize the league, let them cosplay or play dress up but how are you doing it? Just because you are a man doesn't mean you are doing shit for the WBNA. Are you also enabling the Cartels by being part of a sex that buys drugs?

this is one of the ~5 or so most viral stand up clips of the past several years, and it exists for a reason:

men who like sports finally got tired of being bitched at by female athletes, as if we (men) are the reason that they don’t get paid what they want, or why their arenas are half empty, or why they can’t fly charter jets. they started this fight years ago, and now more and more men are saying, “alright fuck it, let’s have this conversation. let’s treat you the same way we treat male athletes and let’s see how this goes.” so far they don’t like it. whaddaya know.

a quote from that stand up clip:

”there’s nothing stopping you, other than the fact that you guys are just into destroying each other.”

so true. and all that angel reese, and diana turasi, and the olympic head coach, and so many more women this year have done is shine a very very bright spotlight on this fact.

He’s on a roll, leave him alone. Most people just ignore a product/team/sport that they dislike, instead we have post after post trying to justify his feelings. I follow the WNBA from a distance, check out the Clark highlights, and keep on with my life. Hopefully, the league improves, expands, and gets through the growing pains.

lol “growing pains”. don’t you think that several decades of flushing money down the drain on a product that there is no demand for is a little more than “growing pains”?

also im not sure if you’ve actually read any of my posts which you’re commenting on, because i’ve already pointed out several times that i and every other regular to this thread have been ignoring the wnba since its inception, and only started tuning in when their whining, unjustified demands for men’s money and attention, and horrible treatment of caitlin clark all came to head. the league and its players now have our attention, and it turns out it’s an ugly, ugly scene.

Pretty simple to figure that out for yourself (in your view anyways) and then move on to whatever floats your boat. Post 1283 isn’t justification for why you think the sport is bad, it’s just being a  misogynistic asshole. Way too many “we’s” in there for someone who doesn’t care and who really hasn’t done anything to be able to use a “we” in that context.

That response is nuts but the sentiment has merit. Clark should at least do something to distance herself from it - at least say "don't use me for that shit" because many will view her lack of a response as a de facto endorsement whether it's true or not. At least say something to distance yourself from it to protect your brand - you want broad appeal and dodging the question didn't help. The video was otherwise on point albeit a bit one-sided.

She carried the team yesterday even when she wasn't hitting her shots by driving to the bucket and consistently finding the wide open shooters. That's what won the game for the Fever. She's literally taking the worst team in the league to the playoffs on her own. If she had ANY talent around her then the Fever would be favorites to win this thing.

glad to hear. I don't remember the video mentioning it.

Oh and it looks like someone is changing her tune on Clark (after her team just beat her ass):

Quote

"It's amazing what Caitlin's been able to do in her short career so far," Taurasi said. "The one thing that I really love about her, she loves the game. You can tell she's put the work in. ... It's been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her, and she keeps showing up and keeps getting better every single game.

"So her future is super bright, and being a veteran and being in this league for a long, long time, it is pretty cool to see that and go into the future."
