Yes she'd be another player.  A highly skilled, respected, and less criticized player who probably didn't draw the attention she has now.

Oh yeah, she's be very respected by her peers if she was black. She'd draw attention for sure...but let's not pretend that if she wasn't white she wouldn't be the super star house hold name she is.

No I don't' think she's being pushed by media because she's white, and she's "just another player" if she was black.  But I don't think she'd be the ratings/attendance draw if she was.  (at least not to this level...she would cause a bump in ratings for sure)

Really hard to know one way or the other...and honestly this race shit is fucking annoying by both her fans and detractors.

I’m curious if that applies to Tiger.  If he were white would he have been as big as he is.

to me Caitlin’s appeal isn’t her race, it’s her game

That's a fair question.  And I'm not sure.  You could contend that if a white player had the same skills and accomplishments as tiger did from 1999-2005 he might have been bigger.

OR, he could just have been "another guy" that wins a lot and has no appeal.  Just hard to know for sure.

And BTW I do think Clark would be popular no matter what race she is with her skill set...I'm just willing to accept Race has played at least a small part in her overreaching popularity.

I don’t really know either.  I’ll point out that Ja Morant sells more jerseys than the joker.  Maybe it’s style of play and not race?

I didn't know that, but that's not surprising.  So that definitely may have more to do with than anything.

Clark would probably be more popular than A'ja regardless of race due the style of play.  Same as Steph was.

I like Caitlin Clark precisely because all the annoying WNBA players hate her.  And I have enjoyed watching her take it to them on the court.  And I also like that she has largely stayed out of politics (which is part of what makes those other WNBA players so annoying).

So there’s this too

No..... but he still would have been massive, because he's done something Caitlin never has.... won.  He won at the amateur level and directly as a young pro.  His resume' speaks for itself and yes, he changed the game with his athleticism turning your grandfather's game into something hipper, cooler, and better thought of.  His cultural roots make him an amazing American fairy tale in some senses and nightmare in others, but he still would have been huge.  Maybe 95% of the attention he got, which was utter craziness.

Maybe Catilin is more like Gerry Cooney in the 80's..... the great white hope.  Back in those days, you could just say it.  A sport dominated by black athletes for decades and people turned Cooney, who was an awkward, mildly talented, Long Islander into some cartoon character, like he alone was protecting white, blue collar America.  It was more fleeting especially after he got crushed by Larry Holmes, but the same thing would apply if there was an American hooper like Caitlin.  All the whiteys praying for another Larry Bird.  I'm looking for a pajaro Larry!!!!  That would be cool.

Clark deserves all her flowers.  It's just not that she's white, there have been other white lady hoopers, it's that her game is fresh (ironic that now it's getting blowback) in the women's game like Steph's was 15 years ago AND she's white.  She also handles herself with the grace and intelligence of someone who is older and wiser.  That's refreshing.  People need to cut her some slack and enjoy her game, it's a good one.

I think she's more comparable to Gretzky. Hockey kind of exploded with him.

I think that may miss the racial component though..... Gretzky was a white Canadian dominating a white Canadian sport.  Maybe Simone Biles?  There were other black gymnasts before her but she exploded, but again, mostly because she won...... and won and won again.

Yeah crazy to see posts that say Caitlin only gets more attention because she's white...

Her game and results are amazing... she could be the wnba's Jordan or Magic...

You're the one who compared her to an individual sport guy initially.....

As in Tiger is making a lot of money for his peers. I feel Caitlin did the same.  I don’t think tiger was as outwardly hated by his peers though.   Curious how the league will treat juju Watkins

Tiger certainly wasn't beloved by his peers, anything but.  Not sure if you've read any books about him or from his peers, but Tiger was a weird guy with limited social skills and a huge ego (deserved).  I don't believe Clark is hated by her peers either.  Maybe from a few dummies out there but I think most of her WNBA peers probably like her or at least respect her, while some of them understand they're jealous of her.  She's simply the next step in the evolution of the game, hopefully the league won't fuck up their golden goose.
