The fall of ‘99 was one crazy time to be on 3rd floor Jester east. Cole, Ahmad Brooks, Chris Sims just to name a few.

Cole was definitely a prankster. He would shoot BB guns in the hall and fit half a can of Copenhagen in his jaw. Loved playing PlayStation mlb. He was a great soul.

I believe the players still get together and play their annual golf tournament for him at Falconhead.

I remember his recruitment and watching him play. It was a huge bummer when he died

Now, I have 2 little  girls and couldn’t make it thru that article without out breaking down.

If you want a great inspirational read ( with a huge surprise ending), pickup his dad's book.  I don't have sons, only girls (3) but i still enjoyed.  It was a great tribute to his son and worth the read.  Keep a box of tissue by too.  Awesome book.

The UNC game will always be a great memory.

I was there for that one as well.  Great ending! The Major and Mack were very smart to let that one end like it did, or should I say let it end like Cole had planned.

I read a story by Bill Little, or an excerpt from the book on Texas Sports. Talking about right before the funeral, but it didn’t dawn on me what was going on. Floored when I got it. Bought the book after that.

The North Carolina game was my first Longhorn game in person. Great way to end it.

I feel confident saying anyone that might steal charity money meant for Cole's family is going straight to hell.

The list of things that makes me feel old gets longer at an accelerating pace.

You arent lying man.  I took my wife (no pics) to the Cole Pittman game.  Her first Texas game, we had just been married earlier in the year.  Now our oldest is 21.  The book his Dad wrote is a great read, just get the tissues ready.

I know the general policy on the Surl is not to kink shame, but this one might be a bit too far.

Holy shit?!?! 24 years????

That's crazy.

I was at that game, and remember Major taking a knee when we could have easily scored toward the end of the game to pile on, just to keep the Texas score at No. 44.  I also remember it because I had broken off an engagement, and then three days later was 9/11.  It was a weird time for me.

Actually, Texas scored a touchdown which made the score for Texas 44 and then Major took a knee to keep it there.

Oh, that's right.  No extra point or conversion to keep it at 44.

and North Carolina got hyper pissed at us "going for 2"  they were convinced that Mack was teabagging them as a fuck you for the years they never supported him while at NC.

If I remember right, there was almost a riot at the end until someone started explaining it to them that that was Cole's number.

I remember going to that game.  It was the game right before 9/11 and the game Cory Redding did this right infront of where I was sitting.  He came by our tailgate after the game, his parents tailgated with the group next to us.

Bob Stoops would have gone for 2

I was at that game.  My main recollection is watching a freshman LB named Derrick Johnson fly all over the field.  And thinking as someone who really started watching the Longhorns in the late 80s in junior high that I'd never seen a Texas LB anywhere close to that good.
