Great series, great finale.

I still don't completely understand the doctor.  How does he go from being Sophia's accomplice in cutting off Ma's finger to being back on staff at Arkham delivering her mail? He kind of seemed like a useless character altogether.

Apparently he has a huge schlong.

I guess I'm in the minority, because I really didn't like the series. There was one fantastic episode and that's about it. I finished it because I was already pot committed, but I found myself getting distracted during the finale and really didn't care what happened in the end.

It didn't work as a superhero show, because there was no mention of any superhero (until the last minute of the last episode). It didn't work as a gangster show, because it was too silly and campy and it just ripped off The Sopranos (everything with his mother), The Godfather (terrible attempt at the Baptism Scene in the last episode), and Goodfellas (flashbacks where he's fawning over gangsters) without adding anything original.

I liked the show but didn’t love the finale either. Oz amazingly escapes from certain death, again…they played that card too many times.

The Vic arc kind of had to happen, and helps remind the audience that Oz is not a hero. I kinda wanted to see him become even more ruthless. I thought his woman was a goner too after turning on him.

But it was incredibly well done, well acted, CF was (as has been said) unrecognizable and CM played a fantastic psycho.

Spoiler

Does anybody else find the showrunner’s explanation for whacking Vic confusing as hell? She cited a deleted scene from The Batman as her reasoning. The only problem is, the deleted scene has nothing to do with Vic and Oz. Not even remotely. It’s all bullshit. We’re adults. Just stick Matt Reeves in front of a camera and have him say we didn’t have a place for Vic in Batman 2, so we ended his story.

It was a very shitty ending for what was essentially the heart of the show. A scene where Vic reminds Oz of his brothers, Oz goes nuts, and kills him in the heat of the moment would have worked better.

Oz can’t have family around him because it makes him weak, yet he has his vegetable mother and girlfriend under his roof? Again it’s all bullshit.

I thought it was a good and necessary ending, the full birth and origin of The Penguin with the hat tip to the tails and hat (and umbrella?).

The end was giving Alfred Hithcock with the mom in psychco vibes. The end really shows his pyschosis and Oedipean illness in the role playing with Eve.

I had a different take on the mother. She begged him to put her out of her misery if she ever became incapacitated, and instead he keeps her alive in perpetual misery. Exactly what she did not want. He's not taking care of her. He's punishing her. It's just another example of what a depraved and psychotic sociopath he is. He's completely unhinged. Like some Norman Bates shit including his girlfriend dressed up and play acting like his Ma. Just general psycho fucked up stuff.

I don't think he killed Victor because it made him weak. He killed Victor because he's a serial killer with no regard for human life. Vic wasn't of any use to him any more and he knew way too much. He almost wacked him multiple other times over the course of the show. It was time to get rid of him plus it showed that nobody is ever safe around him, however close they might be. There is zero value to anybody's life to him.

Finally returning to this thread after watching the finale the other night. I was pretty stunned to see Oz murder Vic at the end though I never really bought Vic as a driver/top henchman for a high-level gangster like Oz.

As far as there being more made of The Penguin, I thought I saw an article quoting Colin Farrell say he’s open to doing another season of The Penguin?

Loved it!  Still thinking, poor Vic.
Now Cristin Milioti joins my list of Morena Baccarin & Marisa Tomei.  Maybe I should go to Italy?

Shes nice and all but not in the same league as the other two, who by the way, showed off their tight bodies on multiple occasions.

You think Farrell didn't act his ass off? I see an Emmy nod.

I don't have a problem with Farrell, he's a great actor.  I wouldn't have a problem with a nomination, and I guess need to see the field to say he doesn't deserve a win.  Taking a hunky guy and making him unrecognizable is a cool trick, but after that concept wore off for me, I didn't think the acting was anything exceptional.

That was the least realistic strangulation I think I’ve ever seen

Penguin pinch choke maneuver.  It's his fatality move.

I get why he killed Vic, he doesn't want someone else close that can be used against him by his enemies.  He wants to avoid the situation where his mom was taken hostage and he was almost got. He doesn't want any baggage, this was a season of him building up to reach this monster villain.

I do wonder if Vic did not say "you are family"....would he have still killed him.  Probably.

Exactly, it was necessary that Vic had to go because he was now too close. And it was in an intimate, heartbreaking and ruthless way rather than a bullet to the back of the head.

It was I great show, top to bottom. Did it have some flaws? Sure, but the execution, acting, set design, and arc were spectacular IMO. Obviously the makeup artist(s) deserves an Emmy, I had completely forgotten that was CF and not just some fat ugly guy they found.
