Florida needed that. They've been taking a beating on the recruiting trail this offseason.

That's Mullen. Great gameday coach. Awful recruiter.

Also Brooks is exactly the kind of reasonably talented back that a good OC like Yost will torment us with. Nice pickup.

Tech is finally showing signs of life on the trail, picking up two east Texas WRs and Tahj Brooks.

TT had a pretty good day today.  Four commitments.  In addition to the three above, they also got Quin Bright, an athlete out of Cedar Hill.  All 4 had pretty nice offer lists.

Tech is hosting a good sized visit week end currently.  Expect two more commitments tomorrow.

I believe @closetojumping made a pretty high stakes wager regarding this kid and the level of program that he would end up at. I don't remember what the terms were nor where Arizona lands on the prestige spectrum, but it might be worth digging into.

He visited Tech this week end and lot of those folk thought they'd see a commitment upon his departure.  They saw a commitment alright, to another school.  Maybe just so much wishful thinking on their part, but there seems to be considerable sentiment this one is not over yet.

Tech got a commitment today from a seemingly pretty much run of the mill 3 star OL, Larry Moore, from Fort Bend Marshall.  Likely to see a couple more commits  this week.

Doubt anything will come of this, but an LSU booster got caught in the midst of another crime.

https://thespun.com/sec/lsu/lsu-football-ncaa-inquiry-vadal-alexander-payment-basketball-will-wade

Spoiler

The LSU basketball program drew the attention of both the FBI and the NCAA this past season, one of the best in recent history for the Tigers program. Now, the football team is drawing some similar attention.

This week, LSU booster John Paul Funes pleaded guilty to stealing over $500,000 from a Louisiana charity that benefits a local hospital. He says that he gave $180,000 of that money to James Alexander, the father of a former Tigers star Vadal Alexander.

Given the attention LSU was already drawing due to the FBI investigation into college basketball, this focus on the school’s prized football program is likely the last thing it wanted. From Yahoo Sports:

That payment could, of course, be an NCAA violation. LSU issued a statement to the Business Report and declined further comment after it said it “was made aware of specific allegations by [foundation] officials in late 2018 and made that information immediately available to the NCAA.”

The details of Funes’ embezzling are quite wild. He was the CEO and president for the Our Lady of the Lake hospital system’s foundation and stole the half-million over a period of seven years. He took gift cards that were for people with cancer and also paid for trips to LSU and New Orleans Saints football games.

In light of Funes’ guilty plea, Yahoo reports that the NCAA has an “ongoing inquiry” into LSU football.

Obviously details are scarce as of now. Alexander left LSU in 2016, and was a seventh round pick by the Oakland Raiders in that year’s NFL Draft. He was waived by the team last summer.

An LSU spokesman said in a statement that LSU has been engaged with the NCAA about the “ongoing inquiry” regarding the scheme. LSU has known about the alleged payment since 2018, but the NCAA has been limited in its investigative ability as to not interfere with Funes’ case. (This is similar to why the NCAA has been slow to react in the wake of the federal basketball corruption scandals.)

[…]

“LSU was made aware of specific allegations by Our Lady of the Lake officials in late 2018 and made that information immediately available to the NCAA,” said LSU senior associate athletic director, Robert Munson. “As this is an ongoing inquiry, LSU will have no further comment at this time.”

Funes also was charged with funneling money to the family of former LSU quarterback Rohan Davey — a legal issue but likely not an NCAA problem for the school since it was well after Davey played for the Tigers. His senior season was in 2001.

Funes’ embezzlement began in 2012. It is unclear when the payments to Alexander’s father took place, but it seems likely that it was before Ed Orgeron joined Les Miles’ staff in 2015. The next year, he was made the interim head coach after Miles was fired.

LSU basketball came under fire earlier this year, when head coach Will Wade was alleged to have openly discussed making a “strong-ass offer” to then-recruit Javonte Smart, who went on to play for LSU. Wade was suspended at the end of the regular season, and missed the Tigers’ post-season run, but was surprisingly reinstated after the season, and will be the Tigers’ head coach moving forward, after meeting with LSU and NCAA officials.

Edit: Just saw it was already posted, but the full text of the article is spoilered above.

If LSU wants to delay the investigation indefinitely, they can just agree to have Orgeron deposed; it'll take 10 years for the transcriptionist to figure out what the hell to type.

Paying players families is not an NCAA violation. That precedent was set when Auburn paid Cam Newton’s father six fugures and it became public.

Story they are pushing is that parent was just possibly helping launder money and wasn't a payment for son playing football at LSU...

So will the father fall on his sword and be part of a money laundering criminal conspiracy or just rat like hell on LSU for paying for the player?

I just want LSU to flip on aggie, Bama and UGA.  It's criminal that LSU can't do more with the talent they buy.

Neither? It’s Louisiana, dude. They honor corruption and wear criminal records like a badge of honor. I assume that Mr. Alexander will use this publicity to vault himself onto the public political stage and get elected as the next mayor of Metairie or governor of the great third world state itself.

He should also change his first name.  Huey P. Alexander,  sounds about right.

Louisiana: half under water, half under indictment. I heard their Governor tell that joke at a fundraiser. They give zero fucks about corruption.

From stories Ive heard of folks over the years, the depiction of the parish sheriff departments and general behavior (indifference to the law, seizing boats and sports cars for themselves and driving them, no issue whatsoever with taking money) in the first season of True Detective was pretty much spot on nose.

In most small towns, the mayor, judges, sheriff (and his top deputies), and DA will all be related, and will have a connection to someone higher up like the AG or Gov. You'll see public construction projects that would in other states take a few months take a few years, so the BOL handling the project has work paying at a premium in perpetuity.

It's Chinatown, Jake.

Three 3* for the Buckeyes in the last two days.  All at positions of need.   Three big names coming up in the next couple of weeks.  Robinson, Cooper and Ransom and they look to be in position to land all three.

Your mom should’ve used the coat hanger.
