One of greatest cfb upsets ever today...

Northern Illinois   16   💥💥💥💥💥💥

Notre Dame #5     14

I scare my wife when she hears me laughing like I did upon hearing that. I still am. If Corn wins, I may have to start scrapbooking to remember this day.

Marcus Freeman starting to feel the heat?

I think they’ll do the Mack/Brian Kelly bullshit and make him fire all of his assistants.

I thought Denbrock was a really good OC, but Jayden Daniels was making him look elite.

I just don’t get good vibes from Freeman. Probably a good DC somewhere, but not a HC. Stop me if that sounds familiar.

ND made a huge mistake by not even conducting a real coaching search when Kelly left.  Freeman was/is loved by his players and ND was afraid of losing players to the portal and losing their recruiting class.  Those aren’t good reasons for elevating a coordinator to his first head coaching position.

Typical Notre Dame. They always lose at home to someone that they’re not supposed to.

I think aggy can do it again this year and really reach new heights of depths.

It's been a consistent problematic reality since Brian Kelly was hired in 2009, especially on offense.  BK hired his Grand Valley State University colleagues instead of searching for the top assistants.  Our previous two OCs were internally promoted; the current OC was plucked off of the Brian Kelly coaching shrub.

Shit... I'm surprised Texas didn't make the cut.

Looks like we check in with 4 😂

Notre Dame is so perennially overrated they probably just get the 25 ranking to just miss this list even when they have four or five losses.

that happened never.  I am actually surprised that we were not on it as we had a long stretch of being a 9 or 10 win team every other year.

Online chatter says that QB Leonard had injured his non-throwing shoulder, which we all saw, and therefore could not run.   No word if Freeman injured his play_the_backup shoulder.

Just not enough tough games left...  Unless Northern Illinois continues to win most of their games, ND likely has to win out to make the playoffs.

Sources: Notre Dame offers General Manager role to Detroit Lions's Mike Martin

Notre Dame is seeking to hire Martin as G.M., Auburn's Kenyatta Watson in recruiting

John Brice     Feb 14, 2025

Notre Dame is close to filling its general manager role left vacant last month when Chad Bowden exited the Fighting Irish football program for the same role at USC.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that the Irish and Marcus Freeman have offered their general manager role to the Detroit Lions's Mike Martin.

In fact, Notre Dame hosted Martin and his wife, Cari, from Tuesday through early Thursday this week on the South Bend, Indiana, campus.

A former Vanderbilt football player, Martin has some two decades' experience in the NFL. He's been Detroit's director of scouting advancement for the past four seasons.

Prior to that, Martin worked for the NFL's Carolina Panthers as an area scout from 2018-20 and he logged 11 seasons with the Houston Texans, eventually climbing to the role of assistant director of college scouting.

The Irish hosted Martin on campus, also housing him at the Morris Inn as they had done recently with Texas Tech's James Blanchard, who turned down the Irish's multi-year offer for their G.M. role.

During his visit this week to Notre Dame, Martin met individually with Irish athletics director Pete Bevacqua, the school's top NIL official in Scott Connors, was scheduled for a three-hour meeting with Freeman and then joined Bevacqua, Freeman and select others inside Notre Dame Stadium's Schivarelli Lounge for dinner Wednesday night.

Sources told FootballScoop that Martin was offered a multi-year deal worth more than $500,000 annually, plus bonus incentives.

In addition to those individual meetings that were scheduled for Martin's time on the Notre Dame campus, he also was set to meet with the remaining members of Notre Dame's recruiting department: Carter Auman, Caleb Davis, Deland McCullough II and Becca Sites. Also, Martin was expected to meet with analytics guru Anthony Treash and Matt Jansen -- Notre Dame's director of scouting with whom Martin previously worked for the Houston Texans.

Watson, among the most prominent recruiting and personnel figures in the Southeastern Conference footprint, also was scheduled to visit midweek with his wife but did not make the trip.

However, several sources told FootballScoop that Watson has been offered the top recruiting position in the Notre Dame football program, a director of player personnel/director of recruiting-type of role.

A final decision is expected in the coming days; sources with direct knowledge this week told FootballScoop that Auburn recently elevated the pay of Watson, who is the school's director of recruiting research and strategy, and was prepared to again fight to keep Watson.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported that Notre Dame was working to finalize a deal with Martin.
