I love that link text. They should use it every time a celebrity dies.

Also, as someone who knew basically nothing about Jerry Springer, this surprised me:

Quote

Gerald Norman Springer was born in the London Underground station of Highgate while the station was in use as a shelter from German bombing during World War II,

Jerry Springer was must watch TV for middle school/early teen years much in the same way WWF Raw is War was. It's a weird vocation to be the lowest of low brow purveyor of smut and trash TV, but I guess we all have to pay the bills, and who am I to judge the man?

You never hear much about the guy's personal life, but I wonder if he cringed off-screen at the crap situations and people he had to deal with on a day in and day out basis.

I had not seen his show in years, but we used to put it on in high school when the government teacher would leave the room. I lived in Stamford, CT for a year and was a 10 minute walk from where they filmed his show, Steve Wilkos and Maury at. I should have gotten a ticket to see him at least once.

Paid for some hookers via personal check while a Cincinnati City Councilman and had to resign.

He was a visionary.  Hookers by personal check for councilman?  Minor league shit compared to paying for porn stars with campaign funds.  He was a harbinger.  He knew where we were headed as a country, gotta tip your hat to that kinda vision.  RIP.

I thought Jerry Springer was in Chicago.

It was completely fabricated for TV.

Back in the early 2000s i worked with a guy who left the job to be the assistant manager at a strip club. About 2 years later I'm flipping through channels and he's right there on Jerry Springer. Story was he was married to a stripper and she was cheating on him with a buff dude. He gets up to attack the buff dude several times.

Now this is the complete opposite personality from the dude I remembered. He was married with 3 small kids 2 years prior and was kind of a timid peaceful dude. The opposite of a hothead. I thought maybe he'd gotten into drugs and went off his rocker.

About a year after I saw the show i was back in town and went to dinner with some friends. This guy ended up being friends with one of my old buddies so he and his wife show up for the dinner. The same wife i knew before. Of course I asked him about the Springer Show and he laughed and said it's all made up bullshit. Apparently Springer's people came in contact with one of the strippers from his club and offered to pay pretty well for her and a guy to come be on the show acting a story line they created. They wanted a guy who looked kind of like a timid dude that would get cheated on. She asked this guy and for the money they were offering his wife said sure as long as she could accompany him to the taping.

Well Jerry, now you get to pay spirits to fake fight on afterlife television.

And a whole industry was born. All that docuseries crap was/is scripted. I visited the HP facility in Houston right after the American Choppers episode had filmed there. They said it was all scripted, including multiple takes, etc.

I would like to know how you go about finding hookers that take personal checks

Sucks that there's no float on check any longer.
