I’ve come to grips with the notion that they must have cut some sort of institutional deal with the devil and they will simply never have a bad extended period like the rest of the programs in the sport.

The Devil requires them to insist upon "THE" Ohio State University.

What role is Trey Moore supposed to play for us? Seems like he's too small against the run to be a typical DE like Burke/Sorrel, but we need his pass rush bad

Buck and no he isnt to small. Our Defenses is based of of a 3-4 and like all 3-4 defenses they are flexible and play alot of Even fronts. The Buck plays mostly weak side DE but has to be able to pass drop too. They play Burke there to get him on the field. He can drop in coverage bc he's athletic. He will eventually move to Jack probably as soon as next season.

But from what position and on all 3 downs?

He’s not an elite run defender, but he holds up well at edge for his size. He’s very likely going to start at Buck (weak side edge who tends to drop into coverage more than Jack). If he proves to be an Ovie Oghufo-level liability in the run game, then he’ll be limited to pass rush specialist, but I doubt that. He had us, Bama, tOSU pushing extremely hard for him. Those 3 schools wouldn’t do that if they thought he couldn’t hold up at edge.

It’s more than that. Cooper wasn’t a bad tenure other than not beating Michigan much. He had a very high winning percentage. They’ve had like 12 losing seasons since 1900. It’s the luckiest run of coaching hires in the history of the sport. To say that Ohio State is “due” is absolutely correct, but I’ve come to grips with the notion that they must have cut some sort of institutional deal with the devil and they will simply never have a bad extended period like the rest of the programs in the sport.

It doesn't cover everything, but I worked for a company based out of Dayton for about 10 years and it was jarring how EVERYONE was Ohio State fans and NONE of them went there. Even alums of Dayton and other schools in the state root for the Buckeyes.

They truly "run the state" and if you are a top recruit from Ohio and you want to play in state then you are going to Ohio State. No other program even gets a thought even though they have quite a few other FBS programs. This makes that place different from other top programs where Michigan has MSU, Penn St has Pitt, USC/UCLA, Florida/Florida St, etc.

I think I found only one recent year where the 247 composite top player from Ohio didn't go to OSU and even then the Buckeyes got the next 4 of the top 5. It's bonkers.

Here's a list of the top 50 HS recruits out of Ohio over the last 20 years (from 2022). 35 of the 50 went to Ohio State:

https://stacker.com/ohio/highest-rated-football-recruits-ohio-over-last-20-years

Like I said - this doesn't totally explain it but there is a culture where Ohio State has the HS recruiting there on lockdown and every coach comes in and just keeps riding the wave.

reddit folks say he wants NIL $$$ and wants to start only at LT

We're probably gonna see some guys peel off the OL group this offseason, would be nice to have this guy competing for LT after Banks leaves.

Likely unlikely, but they recruited this hell out of this guy in the 2023 cycle.

Just FYI ... in light of previous speculation about possible departures from our RB room.

Blue emerged as a co-starter over the last quarter of the season. Not sure there is any real risk of the RB's bolting for next season. It will be interesting how carries get divided with Gibson and Clark in the mix.

Proud of what Blue has become throughout the season. From wanting to transfer to stepping up when needed and provided a nice combo with Baxter. Not sure you can really take him off the field next season.

If Brooks leaves there is a compelling argument Blue is the best RB on the roster.

I did not expect to type any part of that sentence at the end of this season. Tashard Choice is a witch.

i think blue is terrific but there's something about Baxter that screams he's going to hit the switch and be a huge problem for defenses.  He looks much different now compared to the month of september.  He'll have a whole offseason to get stronger and recover from his lower leg injuries.

Brooks is getting late day two grades by just about everyone despite the knee injury. Realistically his ceiling was probably mid second round grade to start with since he isn't a difference making flex WR type RB and that is just how the league looks at RB these days. Fully expecting him to go through with his draft declaration.

The risk of falling slightly in the draft is lower than the risk of him coming back not 100% and ending up barely seeing the field because Baxter and Blue are simply better than a diminished Brooks. If he is smart he goes.

Yeah. Blue has played better than Baxter so far. Baxter is young but always seems dinged up. He just needs to work on ball security.

I'd love to hear what Gerry Hamilton's thoughts are on Jaydon Blue now becuz he looked good good running between the tackles last night.

I’ve written a bunch on Blue throughout this season. If it is important enough for you to think you’re calling me out, it’s probably important enough for you to do a search and read those posts.

As to the notion of a callout, the guy declared for the portal last December. Texas told him to feel free to enter it, but he wasn’t coming back. No one reached out with glorious NIL offers after he announced, so he never filled out the paperwork and decided to stay put. That shit is all public. So what in the fuck do you think you’re calling out anyway?

Blue seemed much better than Robinson last night. It is moot now, though.

Lulz.

(Edit: Saw this tweet, adding it - not implying this is related to Tenn backing off,  and not laughing or making light of this.)

I read this and instantly thought of Justin Wells gushing over his social media savvy Stewart is.

He's so savvy that in negotiating with other teams he let slip that he has an injury that no one has been able to diagnose and that he may not be in the best mindset.

Brilliant.
