I'm curious to see what Harris's constituencies are and what her grassroots base/appeal will be. Obama was an inspiring orator who could craft a vision of a fair and equal America so beautifully that it captivated racially-and-economically-anxious whites in addition to inspiring libs by the tens of thousands across the nation to volunteer, sing, dance, and proselytize the gospel of Hope & Change.

Warren is hitting it hard right now, and I'll be interested to see who can build that grassroots movement and support.

-------------------
"They work for the rich and the powerful and not the rest of us. It's throughout the system," Warren said, igniting cheers from more than 500 in a downtown event hall Saturday evening. "This is corruption, pure and simple. It is corruption and it is eating away at our democracy and every fiber of our lives."
-------------------

What on earth are Wall Street candidates going to have to say to compete with this in the grassroots?

Warren has done a good job of preemptively neutralizing her potential opponents.  On Maddow she basically said, "Dear Billionaires, don't run for president if you are going to use your own money."  Those were clearly shots at Steyer/Bloomberg and Steyer dropped out before he got in this week.

She also subtly said to her opponents, "Bring your ideas to the table and defend them because that's what I'm going to do."  Typical politicians don't like the idea of being boxed in on positions but Warren is telling them, "Flip-floppers beware, I am going to box you in."

She doesn't have a lot of vulnerabilities other than the superficial attacks from right wing media and the "but DNA-test" shit.

There is also the perception from the right that Warren would be the most favorable opponent for a GOP victory in 2020.  This was the fatal mistake the democrats made with Trump, they wanted Trump to be Hillary's opponent because he was so obviously unfit. It would be ironic to see the Republicans play themselves into a Warren presidency.

It's going to be a challenge to bring her down.

It has real potential to get nasty if the Wall Street Dems (Harris, Gillibrand, Booker, etc...) try to fight back against more economically populist candidates' attacks on Wall Street and the billionaire class. It will be the exact same Clinton/Sanders dichotomy and it will be interesting to see what centrists use as an excuse to back the Wall Streeters yet again.

This is the soul of the Democratic 2020 primary right here:

is she the best?  probably not.  is she better than who is in the office right now?  ya damn straight.

Oh, I will absolutely vote for the Democratic nominee. Just prefer to see a true progressive at the top of the ticket.

It's funny Avenatti brings up Putin.

While I like Beto a lot, his record against Russia is extraordinarily soft, especially when it comes to assisting the people of Ukraine fighting Russian aggression.   I'm not trying to bash Beto but this will come up eventually in debates and he will need to explain why his voting record is outside of the mainstream.

Harris today answering questions about a presidential run.  This is a very strong showing, imo.  Energized, easy on the ears, honorably adheres to rule of law, clearly highly intelligent and able to simplify complex issues into understandable priorities.  And perhaps most significantly, she's moderate.

Moderate doesn't matter.

Hillary was practically a Republican and got lambasted as a gun grabbing abortion loving Socialist who wants to tax everyone 100% and feed rich people to the poor.  IDMAS the political views of any Democrat running.

Moderate pretty much means “For Sale” these days, sadly.

Through my own lens, "moderate" is more a reflection of personality and character, not necessarily policy.  It connotes balance and maturity and how one manages conflict.

So far, she checks all the right boxes in my book.

Isn't Harris considered the most progressive senator out of all of them?  See this link from a liberal/progressive site.

Or was your comment sarcasm that went over my head?

It's amazing how the Bernie Bros (maybe the most ham-fisted attempt at a pejorative) Voting For Trump myth has persisted despite evidence that they overwhelmingly voted for Hillary.

Evidence is not as important as emotional salience.

Bernie '16 primary voters, even including those who were not left/Democrats and were anti-Obama, went to Hillary at 88%.
Hillary '08 primary voters went to Obama at 75%.

I do wonder what the "Bernie Bro" contingent is supposed to look like that cost Hillary the election. Rural white men in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are "bros"? They're kicking around dying rust belt towns with popped collars, Japanese denim, and Ray Bans, pounding Pabst?

Evidence doesn't matter, though, and neither does any kind of basic common sense.

Before your post, I had clarified:

"Through my own lens, "moderate" is more a reflection of personality and character, not necessarily policy.  It connotes balance and maturity and how one manages conflict."

-- I heard Sen. Harris' response to a question about Alexandria O-C's comments on msnbc the other night about immigration, the wall, etc.  AOC boiled over and made comments like maybe 'ICE should be abolished'.  That's just the other end of the political horseshoe right there.  Harris responded that it's good to generate ideas and to consider all of them to arrive at the best plan.  It was apparent she didn't share AOC's extreme (unrealistic) statements, but her lack of endorsement was offset by her inclusiveness of ideas.

To me a moderate leader is someone who primarily fosters stability and steady change, and can shift within the political spectrum utilizing differences to derive the best outcomes.  Harris strikes me as that, even though she may grade out as a solid liberal/progressive.

My dad was a Bernie Bro that voted for Gary Johnson...so there’s that.

I still give him shit about it.

Historically speaking, how does your dad vote?

Is he a liberal that Bernie turned against the "moderate" (i.e., Wall Street) Democrats with socialist rhetoric?

Guess it’s her perogative to change her mind, but...

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/10/gillibrand-rules-out-2020-presidential-run.html

The junior New York senator vowed Thursday that she will not mount a challenge against President Trump in the next general election if she wins her midterm race next month.

“I will serve my six-year term,” Gillibrand, 51, said when asked about her presidential prospects during an at times heated debate in Manhattan against her GOP challenger Chele Farley.

Dad has gone all over the map over the years.  He voted for Obama twice but hated the Clintons.  Used to be a libertarian 30 years ago but abandoned them when he realized they’re full of unrealistic shit.

Now he’s a solid democrat.

Bernie voted against the Defense of Marriage Act... but that's OK he's just a bro who hates minorities (even though he has been protesting with them for 50+ years), gays (even though he has advocated for them since the early 80s), and women.

I mean, just LOOK at this bro. He's so bro-ey he might as well have a pink polo shirt with Greek frat letters across the front.

And it's Bernie's fault he didn't vote for Hillary?

You're a brain genius

Uh, it’s pretty clear today anyone that didn’t vote for Hillary in 2016 indirectly helped Trump so...

He knows he fucked up... I voted for Gary Johnson in 2012 so I can’t rag him too much.

While I like warren and think she would be a great president, if trump runs again because he’s not in jail or holed up in an embassy somewhere, the dems nominating her gives trump the best shot at winning again and four more years of message board bitching and debate about Bernie bros.

Given that I’m at a loss as to why you seem to support her so greatly.
