All this shows is the effect of announcing and to some degree, announcing well. I guarantee you Biden and Beto would see an instant 5-10 point bumb after announcing.

Yes and no.

No doubt that announcing matters. The two drops are from unannounced. However, Warren and Harris also announced and their bumps are very small.

I think Beto will definitely rebound with an announcement, and I think he has a very high ceiling. I could see Beto absolutely annihilating everyone.

Biden is, I think, most attractive in the backup-QB-syndrome situation.

But we're a really long way away and no one should be counted out.

Reparations talk is a great way to get trump re-elected. Let’s focus on real shit that can actually happen like making sure every American has access to affordable healthcare, fixing our immigration policy, and ensuring that trump doesn’t have another 2 or 3 Supreme Court justices. Those issues are winners with just about everybody other than people that were never going to vote for a dem anyway.

Every D nominee should get together in a room and realize the truth of this. Regardless of whether you're for or against reparations, this tack plays right into the Rs hands. If you choose to focus on the RushFox dog whistles, then you're going to galvanize borderline Rs against you.

Don't need all of them in the room, just the ones who start using it as a vector for attack.

Honestly, no. Anything plays into “their” hands.

If a democrat ran on a 20 foot wall; 10% tax cut and ending immigration platform, RushFox responds with:

WHY NOT 50 FEET - so weak on border

WHY NOT 20% - such socialism

WHY NOT ROUNDING UP ANR DEPORTING THE ONES HERE - hate America

it. Doesn’t. Matter. The message or the messenger is getting attacked.

Someone’s scared of Beto -

 https://twitter.com/elianayjohnson/status/1104841764291182593?s=21

And read that fucking article, bookmark it, and read it again every time you want to give in to the purity test garbage or get nervous about a candidate because “the Republicans will attack”.

They’re literally spending money attacking Beto for being TOO CONSERVATIVE because they don’t give a fuck about actual conservatism.

All they care about is power and being the party of Trump.

Seriously, read it and heed my battle cry - “Knuckle up and fall in line, fuckers!”.

The other side already has snipers in the trees and we’re still standing around fighting about the best camo.

the democrats could fuck up a wet dream. old machine that just reeks of slow, pungent, and out of touch

a leader will hopefully emerge that understands how to persuade and communicate versus how to just toss out the same out of touch BS over and over again. (and yes @Js1 plenty of that problem too. no one gives a shit)

Cut to HRC telling folks at a black church that she will do everything under her power to make the laws for crack cocaine the same as the laws for regular cocaine.

THE WORLD CARES ABOUT YOU.

happy sunday my Gs. on Monday never forget...

I agree. it's tough to overcome the RushFox programming of the last 2 decades. Ds have to find a way to explain to voters that they are not for open borders or for soaking the rich (socialism). They also have to find a way to get through to Americans the idea that 'I got mine' should not be the foundational, governing principle in the US.

I'm referring more to the self-inflicted wounds -- broaching reparations and Omar's comments. Omar could have easily framed her comments to address money/lobbying in DC. She was sloppy.

Like Larry T. Spider said, there are so many other issues that affect us all on a daily basis. Things like affordable healthcare. However, I'm sure all of the Ds on CNN tonight will be asked to explain/address Omar's comments. ugh.

Why do you have to vote for someone else?

I don't, but it's going to be tough deciding between him, Bernie, and Warren.

Thought Mayor Pete has an excellent response to the Supreme Court question and how he’d increase justices. 9-15. 10 appointments and the other 5 would be a unanimous vote by the appointed 10

Eventually a capitalist non-centrist alternative to Bernie is going to come to the forefront. Buttgieg might be that person. He was very impressive today.

Could a gay dude actually be elected President? I think so. It just isn’t a big deal anymore. The voters that would vote against him probably are the ~35% that wouldn’t vote for a democrat anyway. He’s a Midwesterner that can talk to the Blue Wall and will also bring progressives into the fold. I’m intrigued

I think being a small town mayor would hurt him more than being gay. Once he gets elected to a higher office he will be a force in the future.

He is amazing so far. We will see.

I started this thread and don't even remember doing so. Funny the first two photos are the ticket that people I talk to seem the most enthusiastic about. But then there is little bro Pete...

Exactly.  All the people who would never vote for a gay man or a black woman are in the other camp anyway.

I just want an intelligent, thoughtful, measured person in charge; someone who has respect for the office and our allies and actually gives a shit about this country.  I don't care who s/he screws.  I think pretty much everyone who isn't drunk on Blue Eyed Jesus and/or Fox News stupidity agrees.

Beto is still my guy but he’s getting competition for my affections from Mayor Pete.

Plus, I follow his husband and his dogs on Twitter and OMG THEY’RE THE CUTEST LITTLE FAMILY!!!

I mean, they rescued an elderly one eyed dog from imminent euthanization!

And yeah, yeah policy and ideas and stuff.

The Mayor is a Harvard man and it shows. An impressive show from him.

*also, every single UT student who asked a question was ugly as hell.  Damn, UT has slipped immensely over the last 30 years.

A gay dude can absolutely be elected President.  I even think that a gay Dem would get a bump by having Trump as an opponent.  Trump won't be able to help himself and will make gay jokes that his deplorable base will love, but it will push moderate conservatives further away than they already are.

But you see, all those other characteristics don't matter.  Howard Schultz is also a white man, so looking at it through that lens, he has an 86% chance.   The other categories are for downgrading the chances of a generic African-American or female candidate.  The only one that can ever apply to a white man is "socialist", but even then, it only happens if he labels himself a socialist.

Plus, we already elected an assclown business executive who was a white man.  Electing a competent executive wouldn't be a stretch at all.

Here’s my first knock on Pete: He avoids answering this question by giving a prepackaged politically correct answer.

A better answer would have been:  “Congress needs to do their constitutional duty without being intimidated by public opinion polls or doing the politically strategic thing.  If there is evidence the president has committed crimes and/or abused his power, Congress needs to take those allegations very seriously, lay out the evidence before the American people, and decide if removing this president through impeachment is necessary, in the best interest of the country.”

His answer was cut short in that video. I'll try to find the longer one.

But what he said in that clip is DEAD ON. The best way to rid ourselves of Trump and Trumpism is for the American people to reject and vote against it.

Definitely do not disagree.

Impeachment is a great tool if there's a legit smoking gun evidence from Mueller.  Like, 100% verified cannot be doubted that Trump colluded with Russia smoking gun. Anything else gets brushed aside.

Otherwise, vote the motherfucker out.  Nothing would hurt his fragile snowflake ego like being rejected.

It is the best way in an ideal world assuming Trump doesn’t end up with the blood of thousands needlessly dead before the end of his term.  How many more active shooters and bombers is he going to inspire?  How much more of our national security is going to be compromised by Kushner?  Are we going to let another Peurto Rico happen?    How many journalists need to die before Trump is accepted as the liability he is?    In the future, will we be asking ourselves why didn’t we do something sooner to removed Trump when all the signs were there?

The impeachment question is a hard one for the dem nominees for a variety of reasons but to say we should just let the electoral college decide again seems lazy in my opinion.

It's not lazy. Philosophically, it's most likely the best end result.

Unless Trump burns it all down before we get the opportunity to correct course.  And he’s damn sure trying.

Buttigeig acknowledges Trump was elected to burn it all down in that clip.  If Trump succeeds, what difference does it make?

Castro is a fucking fraud, and I worry reparations will become an issue the shitlib candidates (who don't really support any material policies w/r/t to reparations) will use to bludgeon Bernie and anyone else supporting universal benefits.
