Paxton is Investigating Dell Children's Medical Center Over "Gender Transitioning Procedures" for Minors

I just punched myself in the nuts for ten minutes reading this thread.  Holy shit

- Sawbonz saying high level studies don’t typically happen on non-patented medication or those with established history, Ana refuses to acknowledge the question or the intent behind it, and goes off on an angry tangent…reminds me of a certain ex president, Covid, abortion, immigration, etc.

- Our 9yo had markers of potentially starting puberty early…which can be a massive developmental problem…thankfully not an issue at the moment.   You fuck with my ability to treat my child through your dumbass misdirected culture war, I’ll fuck you up.

- Inflation is still a thing, food is outrageously expensive, my employer is laying off, hell the first killer app for AI is out there with minimal legislation or governance…and this is the thing our state is spending their time on?  Oh and gutting public education, letting an 18yo buy a weapon of war,  trying to take away the THC that has been instrumental to my mental health + past alcohol issues, and voting rights, and…

- Guy I know who has always been vocally right wing…recently handed divorce papers because he cheated on his ex for years…was trying to convince me that Jan 6 was overblown because “only one person died”.  This shit is a sickness, makes me want to puke.

Well it’s worse, and unless we make radical changes it’s going to get even worse very soon. Within two legislative cycles we went from blocking bathroom bullshit to now fully regulating women’s bodies and outlawing care for queer kids, with book bannings and Ten Commandments our schools are headed toward being extensions of the church. They’ve long legislated skin color with gerrymandering and underfunding programs. Orphans mean jack shit to them CPS/foster care isn’t getting any real help. They are just getting started. Praise the Lord. Fuckers.

Official intrusion into a citizen’s private affairs bothers some folks only insofar as the citizen is a Manchurian fascist. The Bill of Rights exists to protect authoritarians as they seek despotic rule. Throw out any notion of a right to privacy, small government needs to map urethras, and criminalize empathy.

Ascension Seton, the hospital network that runs Dell Children’s Adolescent Health clinic, announced last week that all of the clinic’s doctors “departed,” amidst an investigation by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton into whether “gender transitioning care” was provided there.

The shutdown of service at the clinic has impacted the healthcare of adolescents (10 to 19-year-olds), including R, a 19-year-old woman who received treatment for an eating disorder at the clinic.

Continued silence from Seton

Ascension Seton, a Catholic-affiliated hospital network, responded Wednesday to KXAN’s follow questions from Saturday, only to say that it could not provide anything further than its Saturday statement.

Quote

The hospital network also would not provide KXAN with the number of doctors employed by the clinic, nor was this information available on the network’s website.

According to Ascension’s “Find a Doctor” tool, there are no adolescent medicine doctors within 50 miles of Austin:

Paxton is now investigating Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. You can just imagine the lawyers Paxton is outsourcing this investigation. This isn’t the type of work that a competent attorney would want to handle. Not to mention that they understand the job that Paxton is looking for them to do. He wants to find a few doctors to punish.

Can't tell you the number of old timers (patients and staff) who would say "Seton was the best until Ascension bought them"

Not to sidetrack, but Ascension never bought Seton. Seton was a part of the Daughters of Charity National Health System. DCNHS merged with Sisters of St. Joseph to form Ascension.

honestly, someone just needs to pop a cap in his ass start filing massive lawsuits at this point. One criminal intimidating and bringing the full power of the law down onto medical providers and by proxy, their patients, through extralegal proceedings. Full-on rogue fascism is here.

That hospital has saved lots of kids lives.  There's probably quite a few very good attorneys who are the parents of those kids who would be happy to help them.

I don't think we're that far removed that doctors will not be able to treat a child presenting as any gender other than the one on their birth certificate. Trans laws (bathroom or healthcare) are only about eliminating trans individuals from our society.

Dr’s will have to go underground

Yeah, even if there's a handful of trans procedures that are questionable out of tens of thousands, attacking an entire hospital comprised entirely of people who've dedicated their lives to helping sick kids beat really partisan stuff like cancer, MS, and heart disease isn't a great look no matter how much it riles up 10% of their base.

DeSantis needed a win versus the Mouse to look anti-woke and go up against Trump.  Paxton doesn't need to do this.  He's not fundraising off of it.  He just easily won re-election.  His base wasn't really expecting anything more than some anti-trans legislation from the Capitol, not from his office.  His top ADA just left his office to go work for Cruz because Paxton became too unethical for him and at least Cruz has a chance at going to higher things (cabinet, bench, etc.).  But nobody really cares anymore about his other office resignations, or his indictment, or his attachment to Nate Paul and money laundering schemes.

I really don't understand why he's going this except to keep the spotlight on himself which makes him harder to punish if you're say, oh I dunno, an upset investor.

So I went to the cc hooks baseball game on Tuesday. Driscoll Children’s Hospital is huge in CC and south Texas (deep deep pockets). They introduced the Driscoll children’s kid of the game…..kid was 12, lost both kidneys before he turned 3. Driscoll has been with him since day 1. At the end, the father asked to say some words, 30 seconds of praising the driscolll doctors, nurses and staff as true miracle workers, giving his son life, over and over again. Asked everyone to keep them in their prayers.

hopefully kids like that can still find medical care and their own miracles n Austin

Yeah, he's not Dan Patrick, and the whole thing is weird - he's gunning to take down some hospitals, but as you said, nobody gives a shit about him outside of Texas, and given his background, nobody outside of Texas will consider him for anything in D.C.

He's also fucking with some extremely well-funded organizations that can afford solid lawyers.  And there's always a chance that somebody could start up a campaign to remind everybody of his ties to Nate Paul and his SEC problems.  He's fucking around and headed towards finding out.  And rumors are that he's looking at childrens hospitals in Dallas and San Antonio to go after as well.

Anybody that's curious

https://www.kxan.com/news/texas/texas-attorney-general-to-investigate-2nd-childrens-hospital-over-reports-of-gender-care-provided-to-minors/

Paxton announced Friday morning an investigation into Texas Children’s Hospital, which is based in Houston, to “determine if the entity is actively engaging in illegal behavior and performing ‘gender transitioning’ procedures on children,” the announcement said.

He did not specify what laws it may have broken, but indicated “I’ve been clear that any ‘gender transitioning’ procedures that hurt our children constitute child abuse under Texas law.”

Quote

“Recent reports indicate that Texas Children’s Hospital may be unlawfully performing such procedures, and my office is working to uncover the truth. I am committed to investigating any entity in our state to ensure that our children are protected,” Paxton said in the announcement.

Paxton did not specify which report he was referencing, but there are articles circulating online about Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) after a report claimed the hospital was still offering such care.

Quote

TCH is the biggest children’s hospital in the U.S. It released a statement Friday, which can be seen below:

At Texas Children’s Hospital, our mission is to provide high-quality care for all patients. Throughout the policy debate surrounding gender medicine, our healthcare professionals have always and will continue to prioritize the care of our patients within the bounds of the law.

But most of his large donors don't give enough a shit about this and in fact don't want the fallout from litigating well-funded hospital/doctor groups.  There's no fucking point.  He's obviously acting on some other motive.  My best guesses are-spotlight interference, a preemptive first strike on these healthcare providers for the inevitable legal appeals that'll occur at the state SC level that he has to lay the groundwork for now so as to showcase himself when the Writs come down in 2024/25, or he plans to run for Lt. Gov. in 2026.

But, as a bartender once told me, don't ever rule out the cartels.
