Honestly, I am not mentally ready for the shit that is about to start in the theater of politics. Kennedy being the historical swing vote stepping down is going to be like kerosene being poured on a grease fire.

Shit is going to get crazier and crazier.

we had a strict conservative in scalia. i don't think we really know what gorsuch will do in the next ruling or 5 years from now. we always knew trump was getting 2-3 justices, because of scalia, and the general age of the justices.

and i'm a weirdo, but i prefer a conservative supreme court. what i worry about is that pendulum swinging into a rubber stamp. i happen to hope that the justices on the surpreme court aren't overly activist, however, and i hope that decisions will continue to be balanced.

a cynic is only a frustrated optimist, after all.

So you have faith that Roberts will preserve Roe and progeny?  Bc they're gone otherwise.

Just when you thought that it was impossible to ratchet up the hysteria any further, life finds a way.

The hysteria is fully warranted.

You see the 5-4 ruling yesterday on the California law and its injunction?

WASHINGTON — In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday declared as probably unconstitutional a California law that required religiously affiliated pregnancy centers to inform clients about the availability of state-funded services for terminating a pregnancy.

The fact that 4 dumb fucks voted the other way is scary.

The left has gone off the reservation. There aren’t moderates on the left. It’s socialists, freebies, identity politics and victimhood.

The exact same thing is true on the right.

Trump could nominate Ron Kuby and the Dems and their Surly bretheren would complain.

So has the right. I’m not sure why you keep ignoring this.

Yeah, and Obama nominated Garland 8 months before the election.  Let's not give Mitch any leeway here whatsoever.

I'm not giving him leeway here, I'm just telling you why this isn't as hypocritical as it seems.  Whether the GOP keeps or loses the Senate in '18, it will still be Trump putting up a nominee either now or next year.

The massively hypocritical part is saying "The President's nominee deserves our fair consideration" - Garland didn't even get that.

He should.  He took a gamble that paid off and dragged his old saggy nuts across the face of the left.

And the payback is going to swing that much further to the left when it happens.

That's a good thing.

because that's all that matters any more. what have we become? i suppose it was always inevitable.

you won't enjoy the pendulum effect when it goes the other way. your boys are paving the way for the democrats to act like fucking maniacs when they take control.

It's not if, but when, and it is going to be like nothing this country has ever seen.

I can't wait.

I have a similar viewpoint. As long as a person is competent and thoughtful in their votes it does not bother me if they don't fall where I would hope.

Borking Bork was extremely important because he was obviously a man of very low character. I have no confidence in this particular president and senate to insure whoever is nominated will be competent and thoughtful.

It's going to be great. This is exactly what the left needed.
November is going to be even better than originally expected.

My prediction is that trump nomination gets confirmed and dems take senate.

just like the Rs did, and just like the Ds did. that paving has been going on forever. the checks left in this country really amounted to ethics, of which appear to be all spent. no on gives a shit about anyone but themselves.

I’ll be just fine either way.  I don’t live and die with politics.  I rarely discuss politics outside of this board.  I enjoy the liberal crying and gnashing of teeth.  Because I don’t really care for most liberals and think their policies are terrible.

I wouldn't say I "prefer" it but I don't mind it.  The balance between strict originalism and interpreting the Constitution as a living document of sorts is difficult.  Of course, I lean towards the latter, but mostly I just want serious high intellect justices who truly know not only the law but history, and who are morally committed to doing the best job possible.

I don't think Trump would ascribe to my standards with a gun to his head.  Ergo, I am extraordinarily worried.

oh we know you are far more against what you perceive as liberals than you are actually for anything, except yourself.

I enjoy the conservative crying and gnashing of teeth just as much. Because I don't really care for conservatives and I think their policies are terrible.

I think liberals are fucking nuts. Well classical liberals aren’t.  I’m basically one. But the modern left of victimhood, freebies and identity politics, yeah.  You all suck.

That describes modern conservatism.

Dems angling to make the midterms a referendum on the scotus. I actually think that is precisely the wrong play. The gop is dejected. Give trump the ability to float a nomination and you only give them a chance to rally with a good map
